What did he mean by this?
What went wrong was listening to bullshit reviews. This game is great
whoa you totally refuted all those arguments bro
high five
let's go bully some nerds next
>read Prey reviews
>All of them mention Bioshock or Dead Space
>No word of System Shock
>All reviews complaining about difficulty or low amno
If System Shock 2 was released today, it would have a 6/10 metacritic score.
>sim
how is it a sim lmao
>TechRaptor's Reviews Editor. Resident fan of pinball, Needlers, Rougelikes, and anything with neon lighting.
>Rougelikes
The combat boils down to WHACK-A-MOLE and FIND-THE-MIMIC. A shitty enemy you are going to be fighting 90% of the game.
In other words: imagine Half-Life 1 would have been you fighting headcrabs with the crowbar 90% of the game.
This game is fucking trash and it deserves to bomb as hard as it did.
Combat was garbage in SS2 and it's still top 5 best games ever made faggot.
Bioshock is just System Shock in water, and Prey is just Bioshock in space. It's an appropriate comparison. I mean, as the reviewer points out, what other games besides Bioshock start you off with a wrench, and later introduce you to voodoo magic?
>punishing resource management
No Bioshock is streamlined System Shock underwater.
Prey at least isn't as simplified as Bioshock.
that he is a casual shitter
SS2 wasn't a fps, you triggered shill. That's why it didn't matter as much.
You faggot shills have been forcing this meme that Nu-Prey is like SS2 and not Bioshock Infinite extremely hard in the past months.
All in vain, you pathetic cock sucker. The game bombed, everyone knows it blows sweaty dog balls.
Reminder that 99% of times a reviewer puts "not enough variety" as a con they're not to be taken seriously.
>tfw this was fucking amazing until you got stuck in the aboretum
Fix your shit Arkane reeeeeeee
>SS2 wasn't a fps
Prey neither.
>What went wrong?
with the reviewer? who knows
>forced stealth
I played the whole game commando, where is there force stealth?
>punishing resource management
Ah okay turbo-casual.
>what other games besides Bioshock start you off with a wrench, and later introduce you to voodoo magic?
System Shock 2 you underage faggot.
And no, it's not an appropriate comparison, Bioshock is linear.
It's not perfect so Sup Forums hates it
Kill yourself
Cancelling the sequel
He's not wrong though.
What is the source for that first review? That guy clearly didn't even play the game, unless all he did was ignore side quests and just follow waypoints for the main quest at all times and assume that was the entirety of the game.
I fucking love it, its great as fuck, but somewhere down the line it broke two of the npc's who get into your apartment, turn hostile for no reason and cannot complete a quest because of it.
Also, it is kinda weird, I expected an assault rifle somewhere, but did not get one. Using the pistol in rapid fire mode on the phantoms. Shit, it kinda serves that purpose but I feel like that there may...should be a rifle of some sort, maybe an smg? Then again it wouldnt exactly make sense since the space station wasnt made for specialized security. Still, kinda weird.
il wait for a patch that fixes the reactor room and the friendly npc bugs and then start again at hard mode.
I didn't know this game even existed until three days ago. Complete shit marketing.
Bethesda didn't pay enough for reviews.
>"adult" reviewers find games for children challenging
Really makes you think, huh?
Not everyone is a casual that dick sucks every new bethesda release.
>video game "journalists"
you have to be at least 18 to post here
>punishing resource management.
why do I see people keep saying the game is too hard because of this? I'm playing on hard and have plenty of ammo and stuff, just over 100 shotgun ammo atm etc.
I watched my brother play this game, and after running straight to the first 5 objective markers he was completely outclassed by the enemies. If you don't explore then you wind up with nothing and it seems like the game is unbeatable at that point.
When did difficulty become a "legitimate" criticism?
What's the comfiest area and why is it the Bridge?
I have a feeling that these reviewers are all expecting something that Prey wasn't meant to give. The game is designed so that there is never a point where you are safe and never a point where an enemy can't wreck your shit no matter how good you think you are.
I think a lot of these reviewers aren't satisfied with not being the big powerhouse of the game and considering it seems a lot of the enemies are designed to discourage mindless shooting, it seems that its the reviewers own fault.
I mean, if you have troupble sneaking past the phantoms then you have a bigger problem than game design.
When """people""" stopped wanting games and started wanting experiences.
Games aren't about gameplay anymore, they're about cutscenes and how much of a chore it is to get to the next one.
>punishing resource management
I played on Very Hard, were we playing the same game? I had resources galore...
Combat being 'clunky' is an excuse not to describe the issues since reviewers are shit - the problem is your weapons are terrible, the guns are barely better than wrench for mimics and anything stronger is a complete bullet sponge.
I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and I have about 90 shells and like 7 medkits (Have yet to even use one because its would be a waste seeing how the game heals you like crazy), and I'm like 4 hours into the game.
>make decent immersive sim
>what little marketing there is panders to the console audience and the devs don't do enough to reassure people that the PC version won't be garbage
After every game coming out being watered down you can't just release one that isn't with no fanfare and expect it to get much notice.
>sim
How?
>complaining about resource management
>hurr durr the game gave me a gun that means I have to waste all my ammo right?
>wtf why is ammo so uncommon
>what do you mean I have to scrounge for scrap to be able to craft spare ammo
#notmyprey
Immersive sim is the term used for games like Thief and System Shock.
It's the genre title you asshat.
He's right though.
>94
I wonder how much money that was worth
My only real problem with the game is how utterly useless turrets are.
Even with basically unlimited parts, it feels like a waste of parts to repair them.
>doesnt know how to use the weapons against their weaknesses
the stun gun is pretty great against electrical things there are a few of those who soak up damage. The nullwave thing is also great for psycho faggots with abilities.
Everything has good counters. Some of the stronger enemies die with a couple of blasts with a shotgun after they have been stunned.
Are you using the weaknesses?
2 secs of q-beam on Ethereal Phantom=dead phantom. Gloo is usefull on everything that doesnt have magic powers
Aliens aren't impressed by FPS skills so you need to use your shitty weapons (in-universe too btw) in the right way.
Ebin!
>punishing resource management
There is easy difficulty for rushing scrubs
I'm probably coloring my experience based on the goddamn 'thing' in/near the shuttle bay.
I lost many lives to that thing.
>what went wrong?
buying an IP name and then using it as a marketing tool while designing a completely different atmosphere compared to the old games creates expections that never had hopes of being met, you turn away old fans and new fans will wonder why it was called prey in the first play.
TL:DR stupid marketing gimmick killed the game's potential
>What went wrong?
Choosing the only two "bad" reviews and presenting them like it's the consensus.
Also, forgetting to remove the stupid Cons of the first one and letting us know it's bullshit.
Fortify does a good job of making them useful against pahntoms. Considering everything above a Weaver is a miniboss, I think its okay.
Even January tells you the turrets are shit though, they are just easy to spam so thats why they are used.
youtube.com
APOLOGIZE
>Clunky Combat
The combat is super fluid and fast paced if you just go straight into it, it's objectively not even a problem. They probably consider it "clunky" because they played for 5 hours and didn't even get any Typhon abilities worth a shit.
>Forced Stealth and Platforming
What the actual fuck? You're never forced to sneak past enemies, it's easier to sneak past tougher enemies at the start but it's not mandatory. Also who the fuck has problems with platforming, which isn't even mandatory either, it just helps you find cool shit and explore more.
>Punishing Resource Management
The fact that they consider this a con is just depressing, it's not even true. You find a bunch of materials literally everywhere and can craft anything you could ever need, even fucking neuromods.
>Overall Lack of Variety
Like in enemies? Locations? This is just false.
>you turn away old fans
This is a bummer
>and new fans will wonder why it was called prey in the first play.[place]
Because we're prey for the mimicks.
This game is like STALKER all over again.
Hated by the press but still top 5 games in the last 10 years.
Press and Publishers can't celebrate good games, because it would make their typical fare looks like the garbage it is.
Honestly I think thats part of the game expereinece. After the long struggle with the first Technopath I found, it was deeply satisfying realising that the Stungun is very effective against them.
>sim
wut
Yea pretty much this, everything is just so smooth, its like another bioschock, but in an era where there are no good games anymore. Its also better than bioshock, this game is seriously good.
From all the ingame world details, to the story, everything is fucking good.
Best thing yet is that there is also no sjw faggotry. Its one of those good old games that simply does gameplay right and doesnt pander to any crowds.
Underage please go
>gggmanlives
Not even surprised by this faggotry. He rushes through so many games to fart out reviews it's a wonder he doesn't have more retractuins
>Best thing yet is that there is also no sjw faggotry
Actually Yu is implied lesbian if you pick female protag.
well its a good thing I didnt then.
But playing 20 hours through the game and I didnt find any kind of sjw faggotry. The few niggers there, that nigger who literally stole a white mans piano playing brain...
But overall it had no in your face sjw faggotry, dont think it even was subtle, the best thing in all of this is that if you kill the alien that controls humans, you can choose to save the whites only...that is what I did anyhow, kek
That's not even that bad, considering how devs nowadays force their "diverse" or queer character and shove those traits down our throats.
I really like this game, but at points it feels like a B tier game version of a System/Bioshock game.
It's hard to explain but it's like if System Shock 2 was a genre, all the parts are there but they're just not as good as the other games in that genre.
...
see
in the comments, he claims
>If a game requires you to quick save constantly and load into an area upwards of ten or fifteen times just to bypass it on normal difficulty, I'd say that there's something wrong with that game's design. If your best case scenario for moving on is "sneak past enemies and bum rush the door, then that's a negative mark in my book"
>You can see the Steam version of this review which includes a tally of my 17 hours logged with the game.
Overall it seems like the "reviewer" was a shitter and expected CoD-like campaign and got confused when the game didn't stroke his dick every minute.
I've only played a couple hours but I'm enjoying myself. Died several times cuz I'm bad.
I'd only even heard of this game for the first time the day it came out. That is some piss poor marketing and even Sup Forums only seems to have one thread at a time at most about it.
Ikr?
It feels that every RPG has to have some sort of forced LGALPHABET character thrown in to just make everything super awkward and in your face.
Hell, the one reference to a past Lesbian couple in the game (past because Mimics were hungry) was so natural and so completely ignorable that it felt more of a "Yeah, their people" rather than "LOOK AT ME, I AM BAD ATTEMPT AT VIRTUE SIGNALING."
haha epic
>no regenerating health
>no two weapon limit.
>mild resource management.
>Stealth where- if an enemy sees the arc of a thrown item, they investigate its source.
>Vertical exploration so you can miss out on a lot if you dont look up and use your gloo gun
>occasionally you don't have a way marker holding your hand (Heaven forbid)
A casual industry will no doubt spurn such a game.
>westrash is mediocre at its best
Wow who could have seen that coming?
...
Bethesda which is why they didn't give out review copies.
>modern reviewers don't like the game
Tell tale sign the game is actually good
>have almost no ammo or any kind of guns
>be faced with somekind of weird alien inside of a chamber that shots electricity
>have to kill him
>he has to walk around the cage
>still have ability disabling bombs
>beat his ass to death while getting shocked from time to time with the wrench while cornerfucking and jumping around like a madman
took me a bunch of tries, but that faggot truly is a huge faggot. There are environmental damages which you can use lures with (requires little ammo)
there are turrets, you can place down traps or use grenades.
I feel like games like these are supposed to be enjoyed by a more mature audience that understands the many principles of the game well, all the game mechanics and actually enjoys a challenge.
Having said that, sometimes I guess I would expect a few less tougher enemies from time to time. There is something quite discouraging when you wasted all of your items in one room, and then there are many other boss type enemies just in the next one.
The weavers especially, god those are annoying to kill unless you specifically prepare against them. Which means finding crafting stations, but the problem is that I often take everything that isnt bolted down. But the second resource item that is used in ammo, is quite rare, I wish there were other ways of acquiring it. Maybe even convert it from other types with a penalty.
>From the people who made Dishonored
>They scraped the "space bounty hunter" game to make a generic space station game
What did you expect?
>open world FPS
Oh fuck off faggot. Prey 2 was going to be shit.
Good thing this game is actually good.
more like this
i like the game. i think its fun.
the game is boring garbage
just like andromeda
strawberry
this game is crap
also you faggots need more astroturfers
ea has at least 3 at any time
...
what's this about a super secret ending no one's got yet?
Stop samefagging
It's honestly pathetic
nice image of your 15yo self
Is Prey actually good? I appreciate that it makes shit casual reviewers assblasted, but is the game actually worth it?
I'd rate it 9/10 but System Shock 2 is my favorite game ever so maybe I'm biased.
no
I dare say that its probably going to be the best game this year. Its quality is supreme. It will be a classic thats for sure, a game like that in a climate of society of today, is extremely rare.
How the fuck did 2 score higher than Inquisition? I don't like either game but Inquisition is pretty much objectively better.
