Game that's supposed to be from "1996"

>game that's supposed to be from "1996"
>runs like absolute dogshit
>it runs on unity

Why do devs use this terrible fucking game engine? Seriously, why? Why not use unreal engine, or use an actual engine from 1996? Fucking iDtech would have sufficed and replicated gameplay from 1996 perfectly while NOT running like absolute shit.

Its 20 bucks man, get over it.

That's no excuse for a game that was developed over the course of 3 years with a kikestarter campaign.

>Fucking iDtech would have sufficed and replicated gameplay from 1996 perfectly while NOT running like absolute shit.

you think nuDevs can program? hehuehuehue. They know how to watch youtube tutorials and make muhLowPoly assets.

The problem isn't the engine. I guarantee the game would perform just as bad, if not worse, on idTech or Unreal.

Is it good though? If I get it it's on my PS4 so it should run fine

t. dev and/or retard

You can guarantee without a source? Are you kidding me.
>quake does all the basics that Strafe already does
>games from 15 years ago could have just as much gore with shit going on
>fucking halo 5 has tons of enemies on screen and can maintain a stable framerate on the god awful BLAM engine

the only good weapon is the AR, the rest are poorly balanced and feel like shit to use. Game plays like shit with a controller.
Y axis sensitivity is 2x the amount of hte X axis sensitivity so it feels terrible to play on a controller or mouse.

Interesting concept for a game but because you have to fight framerate more, it's not as fun to play. I don't know how it runs on PS4, but on my 2500k and rx470 rig, it drops to 40fps even with resolution lowered.

game looked shitty and floaty from the trailers
got viral'd super hard on v so don't feel bad about getting tricked into buying it, just refund

It's pretty bad, user. Movement and gunplay are terrible, and the enemies are just meatsponges that walk in a straight line towards you

>he fell for the indie trash meme
>steam user
whatever it is, you deserve it.

Steam allows for refunds, you fucking troglodyte. That's exactly why I have my $20 back. Go back to thinking about Xfire.

I'm telling you the problem is the devs, you retards. Unity has handled games much more complex than this.

>or use an actual engine from 1996
I like this idea. A bit like how some expensive recording studios still use tape. Has anyone actually done this?

The engine is fine, it's just dev incompetence as is always the case with indie games.

It costs a third of new AAA games so yes, that is an excuse to dial back your expectations

An engine from 1996 won't run on modern hardware, they used apis that are no longer in use.
They could be fixed in the same way old games in GOG are altered to run on modern systems, but that defeats the point.

Like what, Rust? That game runs and looks like SHIT. I recognize that Devs are a big part of the problem, though. ARK still runs like shit and runs on UE4. I'm just saying that I've noticed a trend of these unity games being fucking gabrage.

Would it be possible to release a paid game on the Quake or GoldSrc engine?

it really doesn't.

>Only a third
What budgets do you think Japanese games get?

The art/visual style is all that matters in the end. I don't care if a game engine had to be modified to run on modern hardware to eliminate compatability issues. In your logic, the devs using Unity makes no sense since it defeats the purpose as well.

oh look, more pixel shit

>An engine from 1996 won't run on modern hardware, they used apis that are no longer in use.
Quake and Half Life both use OpenGL and work just fine on modern PCs.

An engine doesn't decide whether the dev can code properly or not. But Unity requires slightly more skill to optimize because the engine doesn't hold your hand as much

I'm not the retard suggesting they should use a 1996 engine.

They spent all of their money on "hilarious" trailers instead of the game itself.

1/3 of a triple A title is a healthy fucking budget, what are you smoking?

I would imagine the licensing fees are probably tied to older versions of the engine. Which are undoubtedly outdated by today's standards (ue4/unity being free to use), but even modern source engine requires an initial licensing fee.

$60 is the retail for most new games. So that is the standard it is measured by

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unity_games

so you expect to pay less and get equal quality?

If you saw the Strafe trailer and actually thought it would be good you deserve everything you got

The System Shock 1 remake switched from Unity to Unreal 4.

He probably just expects someone selling a game to make sure it isn't a buggy, poorly optimized turd, and he's right to expect that.

There's a version of rainbow 6 siege for $15, black ops 3 for $15, and CS GO started at $15.

Does it actually run bad or is this another meme?

>and make muhLowPoly assets.
If only, user. Half the reason they run like shit is the models are needlessly higher poly but they're too stupid to bake the textures and shadows together to give it the same look on a lower poly model.

I can play Quake 2 vanilla on my PC without a problem.

>blaming the engine and not the shit devs

It is runs like shit unless you turn on some meme option which changes render resolution to 300x something

Yes but it you have to give out the source code on request. Valve never made goldsource open source though and refuse to give out licenses for it.

It's extremely easy to make unity run like absolute dogshit if you don't know what you're doing, which most indie game devs on Steam don't.

>That's exactly why I have my $20 back
No, you didn't, good goym. Steam still got your money you subhuman kike cock sucker.

Unity > Unreal 4

So how shitty does it run for you anons?

>while NOT running like absolute shit.
rage and wolfenstein.

All these people complaining about muh fps muh unity muh graphicx, while almost nobody comments on the most important part: the game play. It's shit.

stop buying indie shit

Do you even realize the alternative you're suggesting you dumb cunt?

steam refunds to whatever payment method you used to purchase the game

rage bored me to tears.

not buying indie shit?

Buying AAA shit. Also, eat shit.

OP here, he isn't saying that 'you shouldnt buy indie, instead you should buy triple A overhyped normie shit that they spent more on marketing and data analytics as well as pushing corporate agendas over gameplay'. he's just saying dont buy indie games. Not buying indie titles != supporting triple A devs. He's either suggesting pirate indie shit, or dont play indie shit at all.

I think indie titles can be done right, but there are certainly factors that turn people off from playing indie titles.

kys shill

explain why I'm a shill and what I'm shilling for. I'm not shilling for indie titles across the board, or any specific indie titles. Kill yourself you fucking nigger.
