Let's be honest gameplay is shallow as fuck. Art style is god tier. First game is better. McGee had a hard life.

The artstyle is fantastic, but the gameplay is absolutely fucking atrocious. This is one of two games I had to force myself to finish (the other being Phantom Hourglass).
Most galling of all was the way they kept using those cheapass concept-art cutscenes to segue between levels at the climactic moments that would befit the conspicuously absent boss encounters, up until the very end only for the final boss to be a complete shitfight and one of the worst slogs in the game.

i liked it. makes me wish platinum had made an alice game instead of nier.

Second was especially disappointing because the improved combat showed promise but the game adamantly refuses to do anything with it but throw the same forgettable ennemies at you over and over.

Do you think that's why the levels were so long? To me it seemed like the worlds dragged on for way too fucking long. I heard that one of the things they cut were actual boss battles, not counting the final boss, so maybe they just dragged each world on longer to make up for it.

Just reading the artbook made me sad how much of the great designs already half ready and in the game never actually made it into release.

I also really like how the ending is actually a bad end and no one even realizes it. Alice fantasizes about killing Bumby(obviously indicated its not real by the appearence of the Wonderland dress) then walks around in Londerland, completely lost in psychosis, the borders of hallucinations and reality gone.

Too bad EA also killed the supposed trilogy so we never get to know what happened.

This is one of those games that were released long-ass time ago in term of "game aging", so chances are that people have already talked about everything there is to talk about in the games.

As much as I liked A:MR, even I have to admit it had a ton of problems (including an engine that loaded textures too slowly at times). It's the first time I ever played a game that felt like a Tom Waits song: surreal, a little rough around the edges, but satisfying if you're willing to appreciate it for what it is.
I tried to play the first game as well, but it kept crashing whenever I saved.

I liked the premise, I also think that at the end when she killed the bad guy, she either fully embraced her madness or according to what some user said, she had actually gained supernatural powers at that point, which is why the guy saw her as Wonderland Alice.

The usual. EA rushed the game and cut the bossfights out. Same goes for weapons and enemies.

I really liked the sidescrolling minigames though, they looked amazing and showed how hard they were trying to make the game a varied experience.

As far as I remember reading about cut content, somebody started killing her old aquaintances, old nurse with birds for example. But final game just skips that.

IIRC in the first draft she found that hag in her house murdered, then in the pre-release version she pushes her off the roof when she "transforms". Then in the release version she just disappears and we never know what happened.

Why? I played this during closed beta and I remember one of the mods there telling us it would be free. They are just trying to scrounge up anything they could find now, that's just sad.

The gameplay was fundamentally tedious, the story was boring, the temples were mostly pretty bland visually/uninspired mechanically and that central Ocean King temple you had to revisit can go straight to hell.

I started making threads about Madness Returns when it was first announced. Kept making threads every single time a piece of information came out, or new art, whatever. I'd download the phone apps and screenshot it to show Sup Forums. I bought the art book and scanned all the pages for Sup Forums. For months the only threads here were from me.

I shilled this game so much I should have been getting paid 50k monthly. Biggest disappointment in my life.
