>Crowdfund a spiritual successor to classic cRPGs
>Release a colossal piece of shit that is indefensible
>Game is somehow still fairly successful
>Makes a lot of money and a ton of profit since the development costs were paid for with the fans
>Decide to make a sequel for it
>Ask people to crowdfund it again
>The faggots actually do it
How the fuck does Obsidian get away with it? The first Pillars of Eternity was bad enough and Avellone is not even around anymore so you will have no good characters. How fucking high do you have to be to actually fall for this?
Crowdfund a spiritual successor to classic cRPGs
>How the fuck does Obsidian get away with it?
I'll tell you how. PoE wasn't bad, it was decent, a lot of people liked it, you just have unsatifisfiable autistic standards
what you described was pretty accurate.
>Release a colossal piece of shit that is indefensible
Elaborate.
The same autists who like reading walls of text
there are 2 problems with pillars of eternity
op isn't 12 anymore
and it's not Baldurs Gate 2
basically, no matter what rpg you make he will never be satisfied, and will always jerk off to his memories about his favorite rpg he played when he was a tiny dicked preteen
PoE is a bland and boring game with a bland and boring story in a bland and boring setting filled with bland and boring characters, classes, quests, character builds, etc etc etc
so is every video game ever, what's your point?
>bland and boring
Explain further.
Oh no, some people like reading, better calls them autists.
Not every game has to please the Rooty tooty point and shooty crowd.
No.
It's uninteresting. It's not catching. It's all
>DUDE
>SOULS
>LMAO
There are only two isometric RPGs I have never finished because of how boring and uninteresting they are, and surprise surprise, they're PoE and Tyranny
not an argument
It took me 2 tries to get into PoE. But for some reason when I finally got there I loved it. You have to like to read though because that fucking game loredumps the shit out of you.
I don't think these games are for you. I played a shitload of crpgs when I was younger but now I feel the same way about PoE and divinity, I can never play them to completion. This probably has to do with time constraints of adult life more than anything else. It's time to move on, user.
i liked it
/thread
Obsidians fans are called Obsidiots for a reason.
They have become conditioned to enjoy the defending of the game far more than the game itself.
They will have fully annotated arguments over why Obsidians latest flawed gem is in fact a great game.
They will also point out every flaw in the game is not Obsidian's fault.
They are like a beaten woman defending their abuser.
>play for 15 minutes
>remember picking some berries, some female character annoying me and hating the combat
>never played again
i backed it too
Well, I agree with both of you that PoE (and D:OS too) was banal fucking boring and I still have fun with other crpgs, so couldn't it be that maybe, just maybe, the fault is not in your lack of time and PoE really was a boring piece of shit?
Same here, broke my hip a while back and grabbed a bunch of RPGs to play while it healed. When I was on painkillers I couldn't focus through the info dumps but when I went back to play it sober and read all their dumps it wasn't too bad of a game. I wouldn't be mad if I had gotten it for like $20
I really wouldn't mind PoE if it wasn't for the god damn expositional "dialogue" all the fucking time.
When I talk to some guy I expect a dialogue tree and actually having the NPC tell me something.
But everytime I started a dialogue with a mildly interesting looking character it did that "soul sight" bullshit and it was incredibly annoying to read through the god damn background story of some fucker I don't care about.
That's why I stopped playing.
Does this ever get better?
Because all the other stuff seemed relatively solid.
>not an argument
not an argument
No mate, I can play through all of BG, BG2 and ToB just fine.
PoE is just boring and annoying. Plus the combat is fucking awful.
It only gets better if stop being retarded and stop talking to kickstarter fanmade npcs
Those aren't actual NPCs, those are Kickstarter backer NPCs which show you a story of one of their soul ancestors or whatever when you click them. It has nothing to do with the story, it's flavour text.
You can turn it off, but some of them are pretty cool actually. I remember them being labelled purple or something like that, shouldn't be hard to circumvent.
>Release a colossal piece of shit that is indefensible
This is an opinion not a fact. I loved the game.
>Game is somehow still fairly successful
With your new found knowledge of opinions the reason for this is fairly obvious it was successful because people liked it.
>Ask people to crowdfund it again
>The faggots actually do it
As with the above there are a lot of people that like it. There is a strong chance that you are in the minority and your opinion is not the dominate one.
Just a reminder that all the talented writers have left Obsidian after PoE.
I skipped all the lore dumps and googled where I'm supposed to go on the rare case that one of the lore dumps contained directions.
It was enjoyable that way, while it would have been torture if I read everything.
A dungeon crawler with light questing, light story/lore, and PoE style combat and party management sounds like a great concept for a game.
Could you name them?
Chris Avellone
Eric Fenstermaker
not an argument
user I feel like you would love Darkest Dungeon. No joke.
People like you you are the reason shit gets funded.
How the fuck is anyone unfamiliar with all the kickstarter bullshit supposed to know that.
What a terrible decision to include those. I thought they were really fucking important background information.
Good to know though. thanks anons!
Pillars of Eternity was real good, though
I have darkest dungeon. It's good, but I like the real time combat with positioning and movement a lot more than turn based row-on-row.
Pillars of Eternity is a great game, pleb
That's about it really, PoE had too much hype behind it. It's had unrealistic expectations to live up to.
Those expectations are the only reason the game got funded. Can you imagine just how terrible it would have turned out if it only got the original 1m they asked for when with four times as much money they only achieved mediocrity?
>with positioning and movement
So not poe or tyranny then.
One of these days, Sup Forums will stop with the "PoE is bad" meme
But it IS bad
///thread!!
It IS bad, you're the one memeing
>Release a colossal piece of shit that is indefensible
Baldur's Gate is fucking awful and Planescape was mediocre. Pillars is a far better game than both but it wasn't exactly a high bar that was being set in the first place.
It's very beneficial to do things like move your characters in formation, split your tanks just far enough apart that they can hold a line without being porous in the middle, constantly maneuver your casters to duck in and out of AoE range, manually hold back squishier classes until you've been in combat for a while and cast a bunch of setup/control spells.
I beat the game on frozen crown.
Why do you have such a hard on for that guy? His story was forgettable as fuck, just another companion soul melodrama. Shit got old in the base game already.
>How
By making incorrect assumptions.
>Release a colossal piece of shit that is indefensible
It's fucking atrocious, most bland rpg ever created. Id rather replay Arcanum for 12th time than play poe for second time
it will only stop when PoE2 comes out.
Then the meme will be
>PoE2 is so shit, why did they change x? It was so good in poE1. Completely ruined it
>First game was great
>20 bucks to support a sequel and get it day one
Wow, what a robbery
PoE was mediocre at worst. It was by no means a bad game.
In my experience that's the case with most WRPGs of this kind, that it takes a significant amount of time before you really get into it. Baldur's Gate had a horrendously boring and terrible beginning and I nearly dropped it.
>colossal piece of shit
No. A colossal piece of shit is something like Unlimited SaGa or Ultima IX. PoE is just boring.
It was better than the Icewind Dales and Baldur's Gate 1, that's not too bad.
Eh
Im looking forward to DivOS2 more.
I am a faggot who prefers less text but more choices over walls of text and the illusion of choice.
Everything was fine up to asking for crowdfunding for the second entry. That is simply maximum overjew. But if people fall for this shit they deserve it.
Your opinion is very important to the RPG fanbase. Please keep us informed.
>tfw you had a huge early teen dick that made everyone's jaw drop in the school showers but then it didn't grow all that much anymore so now it's just average
>RPG fanbase
kek
The only reason PoE sold well was because of the pre-release hype and marketing surrounding it, and because it has above average graphics.
But, that's just your opinion.
Game has its audience,
Yes, its not BG1&2 but it is cwrpg.
Its at least good.
And, there is enough real interest for sequel.
And, I can find , on top of my head, at least 10 games ,we will get sequel no one wants or asks for.
Fact that they want to kickstart sequel is fact that they have enough confidence and knowhow to make at least better sequel .
They did collect money,didn't they?
Pretty depressing numbers.
Can't even hope the GOG ones would re-balance things a bit.
OP, listen.
You are correct.
I have had PoE, with its expansions pirated for a while now, and I have tried, numerous times, on many many occasions to get into the game. I've went above and beyond what a player needs to do to try and get into a game actually, and it simply isn't happening.
If you're the guy who said a few posts down from the OP that everything is bland as fuck, from the classes to the setting, then you're completely fucking right again.
The attributes are also a fucking mess and I cannot stand them.
And to anybody who says shit like "well m-maybe you just don't like isometric rpgs anymore", that is fucking retarded and simply untrue. I have played through games like Underrail multiple times and I went back and played Icewind dale 2 for the 3rd time a month ago.
Pillars is just pure fucking trash.
When will this meme end? There's no publisher and there's absolutely zero chance the profits from PoE would be enough to cover the development of another game of the same magnitude.
A lot of people liked the first game and so were ready to support a sequel, get over it. There's really nothing jew about it.
Eric Fenstermaker was part of the pre-production writing and is writing Edér.
I like the first PoE so I funded the second, though I wish it wouldn't have this kickstarter thing going on. I guess it doesn't matter if I'm going to buy it anyaway.
>>Release a colossal piece of shit that is indefensible
But the game's pretty good. Are you just trying to act cool for all the anonymous people on Sup Forums?
It's insane how many people go "PoE has mindless combat". It cannot be any more untrue. If anything, you can complain that it forces you to micro-manage too hard.
He's a great character with a great personal quest and backstory. Some of his banter is amusing. Plus, he's a Monk and Monks are really good in PoE.
You can never know. I was going to buy Tyranny up until the day it was released. Then my credit card got rejected because of a communication error, so I pirated it. Uninstalled after 5 hours and never looked back. God fucking damn, I dodged a bullet.
Jesus Christ, poor Torment, this is again most underappreciated title of all times.
It just shows that in reality, majority ofvgamers are not a deep beings.
>MFW pre-ordered Tyranny
It was so fucking bad. I regret having spent so much money and time on it. I was expecting something that would at least be a quarter as good as Pillars. What the fuck happened?
PoE is an interesting and exciting game with an good and well written story in a decent setting with some great characters in there and a lot of great classes, quests and character builds.
the pillars setting is a lot more interesting that Yet Another Forgotten Realms RPG™
The biggest problem with nu crpg is that it doesnt give you replayability on the same level as BG. In BG you at least could play 2 routes: a cunt and a cuck. In PoE, for example, there is literally no point in replaying it
>DUDE
>BHAALSPAWN
>LMAO
wtf i hate bg2 now
I had this argument with friends. Im a huge rpg lover but i couldnt play poe more than 4 hours or so. I found the story very boring and dialogues were sometimes non sense or even absurd. Graphics were ok but thats all, sadly.
>Tranny
For some reason I didn't find out about this game until few days before the launch so I just decided to wait and see how it was. I'm glad I did.
Same here
Hated it at launch, couldn't even get halfway through it
Tried it with the expansions, spent 200 hours on it.
PoE is pretty good if you like immersing yourself in a new setting of lore, religion, history, etc. On that front it provides a well-thought out and unique enough story and world with good presentation (by that I mean not just dumping everything in books and codex entries.)
If you like hack-and-slashers like Icewind Dale though then no wonder you couldn't get into it.
Then why do I hate Tyranny but love Pillars of Eternity? Your theory doesn't add up.
I think it's just people who are upset with the fact that they can't abuse mechanics to indefinitely kite enemies anymore, or that there isn't a hundred different spell effects or something.
The Engagement system alone is the best implementation I've ever seen in a crpg
>What the fuck happened?
Wasn't it made by Obsidian's less-experienced 'B'-team, except enough of their writers have left that they don't actually have a B-team?
I don't know. I haven't played it
I only found out about it because it is in one of the loading screens. They should have made it more obvious. Just ignore the gold plate dudes with the command to peer in souls. Although they will still feel annoying with their presence since they stand out so much from everyone else. Wish there was a mod to just outright remove them. Glad PoE 2 won't have that shit.
Maybe it's just not for you, and that's okay, user.
I already hate that they're taking out vancian casting and reducing the party to 5. Plus, no Avellone so we probably won't see Durance or a Durance-level character.
Still pretty hyped for it overall, though.
anyone with basic pattern recognition would've read maybe 2 or 3 of the gold plate guys and gone "huh, there seems to be a pattern here. the gold nameplate seems to denote that these are merely backdrop characters because i don't really have a way to interact with them outside of reading their backstory. guess i'll ignore them"
Durance is a shit character
All PoE characters are shit
Better than Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 (without MOTB) too.
Not everything in BG2 revolved around Bhaalspawns. It was the core of the main quest, and part of Jaheira's questline, but only that. Bhallspwans have nothing to do with any of the side quests in and around Athkathla, Bhaalspawns have nothing to do with fish city, Bhaalspawns have nothing to do with things going on in Underdark.
Souls in PoE is like pokemon in any Pokemon game. The only thing anyone ever talks or thinks about.
Pillars of Eternity allows you to kill every single NPC on your way except for one (which ends up dying later anyways)
You can start the initial quest, murder everyone and then go brag about it. You can have your cruel reputation go up and the world will react accordingly.
It has just as much Evil C&C as Baldur's Gate 1.
>spoiler
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
NO EVERYTHING IS FOR ME
FUCK YOU
I think expecting another BG2 from a fucking kickstarter campaign is a bit much.
The fact that the first game's lore is fedora-tier should have been enough to clue you in.
Yeah, it was. No Sawyer or Fenstermaker. Unfortunately, some of the terrible writers from Tyranny are working on Pillars of Eternity 2, though.
nigga what fuck you
Pillars was alright
Nah
i played through as an orlan rogue, and i'm going through again as a godlike cipher. i feel like there are enough different dialogue options to keep things fresh. i've also had the recommendation that i play as a priest of skaan at one point because that makes the interaction with the skaan cult very different. so i guess i have to disagree about the lack of replayability. and the thing is i have more of an urge to replay pillars than the original BG because my experience with BG was a lot of wandering around in the wilderness not finding much of consequence, and a painfully pedestrian storyline.
...
I blame InXile's non-existent art/design team, their games area really poor both artistically and technically.
Also the game was broken/unplayable for me on launch and it took a whole fucking month for them to get a patch out. Still haven't bothered to try it again.
And a terrible combat system since low level D&D is hell.
>because that makes the interaction with the skaan cult very different
It doesn't.
