Music licensing is a mistake.

Cheap publishers that don't want to make an effort or keep paying the artists are the mistake here.

exactly, they could just revamp it with some custom made music and make it 'moddable' for enthousiasts, nothing of value lost.

This smells of cheap marketing.

>Want to re-download GTA:SA
>Remember how the licensing on half the music ran out so now the radio is fucked
reeee

It's a miracle that Remedy is even alive after Quantum Break, their funds probably aren't overflowing and music publishers know exactly how much they can wring for their IP rights.

There's like 50 mods.

Well Microsoft keeps funding them but I've heard they're not on good terms anymore. I hope Remedy can find another publisher if that's the case. I know that Microsoft doesn't care but it's not Remedy's fault that they can only release their games on the Xbone and (at least initially) Windows 10.

I thought the game was supposed to be 2.99
it's 29.99 what gives?

Starts 10 AM PST.

Probably starts at 1PM EST.

They don't even need to keep paying. Just negotiate a permanent license like any person with an ounce of common sense would do.

thank you thank you.
I already own it, but I'm going to buy it for my little brother.

Just do the music inhouse, like anyone gives a FUCK about some faggy pop song your music dude couldn't replicate the tone of with a hired set of vocals and their own equipment.

Are you me?

>90% off on Steam
>0% for Xbox, GOG and Humble
The fuck is this shit?

Are you extremely attractive, tall, big fat dick, 401k?
If not then we're probably not the same guy.

Are you going to chip in towards the fee for permanently licensing tracks from the likes of David Bowie and Depeche Mode?

they said they don't have control over the pricing on a lot of storefronts. they can say "hey can you please put our game on sale for a couple bucks?" but it doesn't always happen

Did they just forget that their music licenses were expiring?

they said they're in negotiations to relicense it, but they don't know how long it'll take/if it'll go through at all. so it's possible they could get the rights again and the games will come back someday, but because they aren't sure when/if that will happen, they're just trying to make sure everyone who wants to buy it can buy it

>implying Remedy wouldn't be able to pull some strings with a MS backed game
The other storefronts must be banking on all the collectors buying up copies for full price.

Why is steam suddenly downloading a 3gb update for the game?

I fucking hate this world. I completely understand why people would want to nuke it to death

I wouldn't have minded this is if they didn't force an update on players who already bought the game to remove the songs and fuck up the resolution of the game.
I'm surprised R* didn't get more shit for that, one of the most anti-consumer acts I've seen by a vidya company.

Here's everywhere that sells it.

>Amazon, GOG and Humble are all being Jews
It's the free DLC.
Edgy.

That's not even the end of it.
They removed the original Xbox version entirely without a word and put up the shitty mobile port as a 360 game.

They don't want to kill the world, just most people in it. It doesn't matter though, the reality is taking care of that already.

I'm glad I bought the original version on there back in 2009, I also bought the HD version but the music being gimped is lame and the graphics look kind of weird since it's not in 1080p and it's a mobile port.
Doesn't help that you still can't change the controls on the new version so shooting can be done with the triggers.

>>Amazon, GOG and Humble are all being Jews
Which is strange. GOG did a giveaway with American Nightmare sometime ago. They also did one with original Fallout games, when they were removing them from the store.

They legally have to do the update. That isn't even their fault. You're complaining about them have to comply to the shitty rules heavily enforced by the greedy music business. Complain about the port but don't act like them doing what they literally HAVE to do is bad.

is the game good?

its decent

They don't have to do that at all for people who bought the game already, they have no legal obligation to do so for anything but new purchases from digital stores.

>keep paying the artist
Why are artists such greedy fucks?

Except they don't.
What they have to do is what they always do, which is remove the current version with the licensed music from the store, then they put up a revised version of the game without the music.

Its okay.

It's Rockstar's fault they went full Jew and decided that stealing content from paying customers was better than re-licencing the music.

>end of game (release end)
>This is Ground Control to Major Tom...
>one of three times a game ever made me emotional at the end

They couldn't just put something else in there and make it the same.

Blame copyright law and greedy washed up hasbeens.

eh...

>implying rockstar couldn't easily afford renewing the licenses for the next 5,000 years after all the shark card shit they pulled with GTA Online

The game alright. Gameplay could have been better and the game promised much more than it delivered. But the story and atmosphere are top notch.

It's a game everybody would have played if it didn't come out on the same day as RDR.

Why? Because you can't have genuine feelings without brand name music?

Exactly.

>brand name music
>brand name
>because the difference between one song or another is like the difference between the store brand granola bars and the quaker ones.
Kill yourself luddite.

And this case the music is actually really important to the game. If they remove it the game loses a lot. Anyway i bet a mod puts it back in.

>hurr durr im retarded, y u have feelings
I think its time to stop posting and go to special ed user

they're removing the whole game, not just the music my dude

That's probably why they're still fighting to renegotiate the rights as opposed to just giving up.

>greedy washed up hasbeens.
thats exactly what I was doing

So...metal gear solid 5 will also be shut it down eventually?

Music licensing sucks.

This is the most official source you can get for rights:

So say they sign a 10 year contract for a game and pay $.10 a song per game disk. Not too bad when selling for $60 new. When the contract expires and it's clear the game was a massive hit, maybe they want $.50 per game sold, but now it's $5 on GOG. That's going to be a good chunk out of the $3 they get after the digital service takes a cut. They can either remove the music (which if part of the narrative isn't exactly going to work,) replace it with some royalty free sound-alike music (costs money upfront,) or just pull it from sale (one last big payday from a 10 year old game that otherwise isn't selling anyways since everyone has it.)

Even streaming audio online they want money. $500 minimum and $.0017 per listener. Thats why music gets hit with a content ID takedown. You're not exempt even if it's free.

Music licensing was worked out years ago with Movies and TV. Video games aren't exempt just because you like them.

Depends on the terms of their license.

a woman mailed me this game free on xbox since it was too intense for her child

Beat that price steamfags.

my gf tried to give the package to my neighbours since it was addressed to my username on buy/sell website

Too bad it's lower down in my backlog.

the game ends with major tom? really? now I feel like playing it less
original scores are always better, except for like space channel 5's spanish flea.

Honestly, it was already a miracle they were still alive after Alan Wake.

The 5th episode does and it was very fitting for that moment. There are 2 more episodes that were DLC that completed the story afterwards and they end on a different note.

The dlc episodes were free with all retail and physical purchases, you just had to wait until they finished them to download them. They come with all standard copies now.

Threadly reminder to get the DLCs on xbox.com since they are free.

That IS odd. Maybe I'll shoot GOG an email.

This reminds me of Scrubs on Netflix. The show is completely fucked on stream. All the music is gone and the impact of the show goes in the shitter. If you are planning to watch Scrubs do yourself a favor and find some place that has the original music to stream it from.

t. Gaben

Daria has the same issue.

Fuck, i hope this changes. To give them some leeway people didn't really have many options to watching tv outside from broadcast back then.

I would never have shit music in my game in the first place so no.

>Depeche mode
>shit
Bro, you don't know who you're messing with. us Depeche fans will fucking curb stomp your ass if you say that again.

t. person who only listens to video game music

This is actually why the major video game companies are opposed to the voice actor union. They don't want to pay $.10 to your waifu in addition to the golden statue they made for the Japanese VA company.
