As of May 15th, Alan Wake will no longer be for sale because of expiring music licenses. This is the only time I've heard of a game being taken off the shelves except for Too Human.

Anyone know of any other cases where a game isnt allowed to be sold anymore?

Loads. Music industry is as Jewish as it can possibly get.

>Hitman: Contracts because of literally a single song that was later cut
>Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, still can't be legally bought anywhere
>Vice City and San Andreas had their radios butchered with """updates"""

Scott Pilgrim vs the World
MvC2

Outrun 2006
Virtua Tennis 4

Plenty of gaymes with licensed content have been withdrawn from sale. People just don't generally notice or care because they're not usually digital-only, so you can just buy a boxed copy.

I remember buying the Deadpool gayme for more than it was worth from a key seller after they took it off Steam. Then they relicensed it and brought it back a couple of years later when the movie came out.

Getting it before it's gone.

Alan Wake is a flawed game, but it deserves better than to be killed off by licensing claims.

Happened to Fable 3, Legendary and Prey on steam.

Holy fuck, what the hell?

They're not removing the music from the game, right?

i really hate when this shit happens. already had it on humble and just got it on gog.

no, as far as I can tell, they're just gonna stop selling it

why does the music industry have so much greed, they make multi-millions just from an album or two. Is a couple of songs really that big of a deal

how much do you think i can sell the limited collectors edition of this for after this game gets pulled off the market? i have it and the exclusive dlc code hasn't even been scratched off yet.

Is it worth buying, Sup Forums?

Just the base game or the collection with american nightmare and all?

I dont play horror games usually

>€3.69 for the whole content

It happens all the fucking time, Sega Rally Revo and Outrun 2006 got taken off Steam, same with most of Codemasters' back catalogue of racing games, I think Daytona USA is also gone. Some GTA games on Steam have had songs removed due to expiring licenses, same with Crazy Taxi. Castle of Illusion remake got taken down everywhere recently, the Deadpool game got taken down for some time while the publisher renegotiated the rights to it

The first few hours are pretty unique and for 3 bucks its definitely worth it. once you get past those first 3 hours you find out they played all their cards and will recycle everything for the next 9 hours

American nightmare is just more of the same.

even on steam?

I know the mickey mouse castle of illusion remake was taken off for whatever reason.

I really liked it. The writing is a homage to Stephen King and they really nail the style, the combat is simple but satisfying, the atmosphere is well done and it has some really memorable moments. The biggest drawback is that there's very little enemy variety so combat gets old before the game is over. Still very much worth playing for me but I love tense atmospheric games and grew up reading a bunch of Stephen King so there's that.

American Nightmare is a sort of groundhog day scenario, so it's a few small levels that they make you replay over and over. It's obvious padding and even with that it isn't too long, but they add new enemy types, new weapons and an arcade mode like Mercenaries in RE, so if you liked the base game you'll most likely enjoy it too.

I'd buy the collection, it's not very expensive either way.

this is just shilling for twin peaks coming back. They will probably do the same with deadly premonitions in a month

It's not a real horror game, but it's fun. The price is right, and I recommend it.

Your being an idiot. Take 5 seconds and actually look at the reason why it is being taken down.

I still have an unredeemed key on my humble bundle account from a weekly sale from years ago. Can I still redeem and download it after it goes down?

American Nightmare's arcade mode is pretty good. The story mode is tolerable if you don't take it seriously.

Is American Nightmare also being removed? I don't remember any licensed music in it, except for that one awful song.

Is this ghost/jumpscare type of game?

forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3071895

its jumpscare, and creepy atmosphere/enemies.
Id say more of the latter

Dirt 3, Dirt Showdown, Grid

Afterburner Climax
expired plane license or some shit

A lot of Japanese games tend to get this treatment as well. The licensing for J-Pop is ridiculously harsh

>gayme

user stop projecting

No not really.
Its kind of like Resident Evil, though not quite as hardcore with the survival aspect.

SHILL THREAD

Almost certainly. It doesn't seem as if they're removing their game from users' libraries. (Putting the game on sale for two days only to remove it from the libraries of the users who just paid for it would lead to lawsuits.)

If you got it from Humble Bundle, you should have a DRM-free copy in your Humble account, and you should download that if possible, but you should also redeem that Steam key NOW just for the convenience of having a Steam copy.

Go fuck yourself. If they cared enough about the game to hire shills, they'd renew they license. They're letting the game die with one last 90% sale because most of the people who would ever buy the game already own it.

I fucking love Max Payne but I am a pussy for ghost game. Looks like I have to pass on this then.

Tons of Rock band DLC isn't available anymore due to licensing expiring, neither are previous games soundtracks (via exports)

Luckily there's still a shitload up but still

IIRC Prey and Fable 3 ran out of CD keys. With Fable 3 in particular they had it on sale and they somehow managed to sell more copies than there were CD keys.

>Legendary
That shitty Spark Unlimited FPS? That's still there, or it came back if it was ever delisted.

Have you ever played Luigi's Mansion?
its like that but except with guns instead of a vacuum cleaner. Also the enemies are more like zombies than anything else.

If a game has been removed from Steam, it has to be made available to download for those who have previously purchased it.

When the licensing ran out on all the old Activision Marvel games, for example, people went on a downloading spree, before finding out theywere always available.

There are very few "jump scares", if any. It's really NOT a scary game. The enemies are only slightly scary until you get good at killing them.

It's fun though.

You shouldn't give up on it for that reason.

>I will never play the Halo theme MJOLNIR mix on guitar hero 3 ever again

feels bad man

this happened to a pile of games I helped make for iOS that licensed a book series

the license expired, we removed them from the store, and we can't update them. unless you have it installed on an old ios device running at most ios6, theyre gone forever.

For anyone buying this btw, some of the collectables are only available on the hardest setting (which you need to beat the game to unlock iirc). Since that's bullshit, go look for the workaround to make them all appear on normal.

Redeem it now, just in case. Why not?

If you do redeem it, you definitely won't lose it afterwards, unless Steam goes full retard and tries to get sued.

This is why piracy is good, dispute

If you downloaded it once you can download it again by going to your download history

STOP KILLING GAMES

>American nightmare is just more of the same.
heh, clever

QGDLP-I7MXJ-TCZ4K

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the game should be easily pirate-able after they remove it from stores, because Humble Bundle released a DRM-free version.

And if the game is no longer being sold, it's basically abandonware, so you can "pirate" it with a free conscience. The music in the game isn't abandonware, but FUCK the music industry.

Fuck Microsoft too, honestly. I want to recommend buying the game while it's on sale, because I love it, but they don't deserve more money for refusing to support a game that I love. I doubt Remedy actually gets money from the game anymore, so even if you still like them after Quantum Break, it doesn't matter.

>Outrun 2006
Hurts especially, since it's one of the greatest games ever made. Sucks that Ferrari are such Jews, should have backed Sega in keeping the brand alive for a definite 4K update re-release in 2016.

I won't dispute it. Piracy of a product which can't be obtained legally is justifiable.

If you want to play it before May 15, pay the $3.

>have fear of combine harvesters since childhood incidemt
>play game
>oh look a combine harvester you have to walk past into a field I'm sure this can't be a boss fight, no way around it (believe me I tried)
>cue combine boss battle

I was not happy

Prey also ran out of CD keys on sale. I remember wanting to buy it on the sale they ran out of keys during...

I'd legit buy it again if Steam allowed keeping a extra copy in your inventory, but it doesn't anymore. Is there any other way to stockpile copies of games?

Also Stubbs the Zombie I'm pretty sure was wiped from the face of the earth for the same reason.

90% off on Steam, that's stupidly cheap. Less than 4 euro for both games. and here I see ppl talking about pirating, lol

if this is true, then why is the bundle listed as 3.99? Am I gonna get charged more than the listed price then?

should I get this on Steam or GOG?

buy humble bundle keys theyre on sale

If I were to condense Steam's catalogue into a mere 20 games actually worth owning and playing, Alan Wake would be one of them.

I'm sorry I didn't shill this shit harder desu, one of my favourite games. I feel sorry for anyone who held out buying/playing this game on Steam who is oblivious to it being removed.

>there's always someone who doesn't know the cd key from a physical copy of Prey can be redeemed on steam
Check out your local thrift store famalam

Yes, you can buy a gift copy and store it in your inventory. It's pretty easy.

You can't anymore. Try it yourself.

couldn't they just patch it out?

Me too, but anyone who misses this sale can (and should) just pirate the game. There's nothing wrong with sharing it for free if they refuse to sell it. Only the music publishers will give a shit, but it's not about the music; it's about the game.

>game is on sale for super cheap

wish I weren't poor as shit right now I'd buy it in a heartbeat

Can't go wrong for 3 USD but it is no Max Payne or even Max Payne 2 in terms of atmosphere and quality shooting.

Avoid American Nightmare---it's really redundant with a brief navel-gazing reason explanation to why you are replaying the same three tight areas repeatedly in succession. And it's more combat focused which makes it the two pronged "flash a light on a monster man until he can be shot with a traditional gun" gameplay stretch too far.

well i bought it, its only $4 for both games.

Really? Why? Is it just for Alan Wake or did they remove that feature for all games? I can't try it now.

This happens all the time with racing games but you just don't really notice because nobody gives a fuck about Forza 3 getting delisted when the 7th one is coming this year.

So what generally happens when a game enters delist purgatory? Are the achievements and community page removed too? Will Steam still track your play time?

i just bought it for $4, checked bank account and it pulled 4 bucks. not sure what they're talking about.

I guess so. Most of the licensed music is in end-of-episode credits.

But maybe they don't have the funds to patch it (which might involve changing cut scene audio), or maybe the music label made them sign a deal promising that the music would never be removed from the game (as an incentive to renew the licenses).

kasabian are amazing. suck a dick

Remedy are probably smart enough to realize that people will just pirate the original if they did that
It'd be a waste of time

they must be referring to individually priced, because on the steam page, it's still listed as 9.99

Forza Horizon was also "removed" because of music licensing. It's still super easy to get it for super cheap.

American Nightmare isn't getting removed.

I know but the entire Alan Wake franchise is suppose to be 90% off

GOG or Steam?

Will my inventory game disappear or is it safe?

At least with Horizon they made it a free with gold title and put a heavy discount on the season pass.

AW gets jack shit on xbox.

i actually think about those things once in a while
all the downloadable mobile games that have been taken off the market forever kind of depresses me
even if most of them were shit
the fact that theyre gone forever just makes me sad

>Put game on sale so as many people as possible can buy
>Just to remove it from all libraries 3 days later

Fucking think, user.

I'm talking about my inventory, dick.

Then again, I still have the original metro games in my inventory and those aren't available anymore either.

>Vice City and San Andreas """updates"""

How much more jew can you get than a script that makes sure you didn't put the music back in or put into the player radio under a different name?

Didn't you get Alan Wake free when you got Quantum Break? And it lterally costs $4 on Xbox right now.

>scott pilgrims ost is the best part of the game
>also why it cant be sold again

that cant be true

Record labels want their money.
They're charging a few cents per song per copy but eventually that adds up on a $5-10 title after Steam/Xbox gets their cut.

They're no doubt working to charge $.0017 per youtube/twitch let's play viewer like they do with streaming radio.

Games go off Steam all the time for similar reasons, you fucking imbeciles.

But chances are you're actually trying to sell copies of Alan Wake.

ALAN WAKE IS PAINFULLY MEDIOCRE and you are a shill. Fuck off. The game's irrelevant.

I know you're talking about your inventory, dumbass.

The answer is no. If you buy a game and it is removed from steam, you can still redownload and play

this comment is absurd and out of touch

Why are you so angry?

>you can still redownload and play
Do you not know what an inventory is, retard?

>Vice City and San Andreas had their radios butchered with """updates"""

This one pisses me off the most. There was absolutely no reason to update the game for people who bought it in the past to remove the music license that shit should've only happened to people who bought copies after they expired. Really glad my PC copy of Vice City was a physical one from like twelve years ago .

you are confused my dude
let this humble you

Duke 3D Megaton was removed for sale. Now all you can buy is gearbox's trashy remaster

>$4
Just turned on my console and it's still 20 bucks.
