Best game that came out in 2016. Completely destroyed the entire competition without even trying.
Was there ever any updated version released after the DMCA?
its the best 2D metriod game that isnt Super
Utter shit. Sup Forums only sucks it off because FIGHT DA MAN xD
Damn good.
Nintendo couldn't have done a better remake themselves.
AM2R 1.1 is the final version.
I genuinely wish Nintendo would hire this team to make more 2D Metroid games. But no, Nintendo isn't that cool.
go back to work classcuck
It was pretty good.
Metroid II was my second GameBoy game, so I have a fondness for it despite the flaws.
This game was kind of a representation of how I viewed Metroid II as a kid, with the additional plot that complements what was written in the original game's booklet.
it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the metroid fandom has a better understanding of the IP than fucking Nintendo and Yoshio Sackashit
One of the best Metroid games ever made. Easily stands at the top with Super and Prime. Only really issues stem from it following the structure of the game it's attempting to be a remake of, which was always a pretty mediocre game
we live in a world where Sega will do exactly that
I really liked it. Metroid 2 was always a bit crap but this solved most of the problems.
If I were to be completely honest? I had so much fun with it, like holy shit was it a blast. It totally & surprisingly lived up to expectations.
Sure as shit better than the Metroid games Nintendo has been shoveling out lately. The fact that the fan community had to step up to make a game like this is embarrassing.
Fucking amazing.
Sometimes I wish Nintendo could be knocked out of the console business and become Sega-tier desperate so great things like this can start happening.
This.
Amen to this.
I actually prefer it to Super.
Love the game hate Nintendo.
It gives me hope that more people will make fangames for series whose makers don't care about them anymore. Maybe there will be a nice Paper Mario game in 10 years, or something like that.
this
AM2R > ZM = Super > Fusion
while super has really good atmosphere it's clunky as fuck and very inconvenient in a lot of ways, plus it has dumb shit like the x-ray visor not even showing you everything
I wasn't much impressed, although I think that is mostly due to sticking with the problematic M2 formula. They needed to stick with the idea of killing the same four metroid bosses over and over, and while the new metroids were more interesting, it got boring playing through them repeatedly. Even worse, trying to make them "interesting" just made the scenes drag on, especially against (say) the Omega Metroids, if it swatted away a few of your super missiles, you were in for a lengthy and boring fight if just hiding in the passage, then plinking out a single missile before ducking back in.
I did appreciate how they handled passages, though. I wasn't tempted to just bomb the fuck out of every wall, although I did miss a few things in the playthrough.
I agree with that ranking 100%.
People idolise Fusion a bunch but I don't get that at all.
it's already happening
Would you say... Sega does what Nintendon't?
fusion has 10/10 atmosphere and tension is why, but that's not enough to save it from linearity
I like Fusion's gameplay and setting more than ZM, especially the endgame powers and suit.
I actually enjoy Samus's monologues in the elevators, even though they really should be skipable, but I can admit that ADAM is just too much.
The reason so many people look back at it is probably because of the tone it brought to the 2D games, something that it picked up from SM without a doubt, but brought it to a new level.
The SA-X is also likely what left a lasting impression.
It's a good game.
...
Aside from the awkward and annoying flip forward if you neutral double jump, I like it.
...
Some parts felt like an obvious fangame but a lot of the game felt just as good as Super, and many of the prime style quality of life additions were great.
I hope that if Nintendo ever makes another 2D game, they outright steal half the stuff AM2R did.
Massively overrated. If it was just some indie game no one would have given it a second look.
delet
Hindsight. We didn't know how good we had it with Fusion until we got Other M.
Its aesthetic and atmosphere was fucking god tier, even if the linearity was not.
