Strange Journey

I have been playing Path Of Exile lately. Honestly it's too easy most of the time, but the dungeons are quite fun. They have a daily random dungeon setup called Lord's Labyrinth which is a network of maps between boss fights. D2 will always be the GOAT though.

I feel like I should mention Arx Fatalis just because it's a first person dungeon crawler. Personally I don't like the spell mechanics very much, but a lot of people are like it just for that.

Is it less buggy now? I tried it quite a while ago and couldn't get into it. Combat was difficult to get used to and I kept clipping into objects and corpses. I even got killed by boxes that clipped into shit and smashed my brains out a few times.

Wizardry.

Why doesnt he attack you?

the game is a lot smoother now and they've added more content to the arena mode.

he has to get up close in order to get a good hit on you

>D2 will always be the GOAT though.
don't get me wrong, I fucking love D2, but a lot of this is nostalgia.
D2 was great for coming up with cool or silly builds, but the only thing you really did later on in the game was fucking baal runs. Todays arpgs have at least a bit more variety there.

Arx Fatalis
King's Field
Ultima Underworld obviously
System Shock 1 & 2

There really aren't that many games like UU, which is confusing, cause most of its legacy is fucking fantastic. Further related games:

Deus Ex
Thief 1/2
Morrowind: Tribunal

In parts these kinda pull off what UU tried.
Also wait for Underworld Ascendant and hope they don't fuck it up. There's even an user in Sup Forumss gamedev threads that tries to clone King's Field - the dungeon crawler genre is just that dried up.
At least if you are looking for something without grid movement. There's been heaps of those games out there lately.

Legend of Grimrock 1/2
Fall of the Dungeon Guardians

Oh yeah Grimoire is also coming out after fucking 19 years.

Thanks for the suggestions, friends.

SMT Soul Hackers

...

Dark Cloud. Some of the enemies are spooky though.

daggerfall is great

Seconding this. It easily made for dungeon crawling and arguably the most immersive of the series in terms of everything.
