Sup Forums I am in love. Finally a jrpg that isn't stupid and overrated. The soundtrack is great, the story is great, and the battle system isn't bad either. I just got to Snowy Valak and I don't want this game to end.
What should I expect out of Xenoblade Chronicles X? Does it hold up? Should I bother?
>got to Snowy Valak Oh user, you have plenty left to go.

The best JRPGs of that gen were on the DS and PSP though.

Which Etrian Odyssey are you talking about
Christopher Cruz
Neither I'm talking about Radiant Historia and Trails to Azure

XC's story was great intill you get to the last third or so of the game. It goes complete bonkers, and plot holes start popping up everywhere.

>Setting X's setting has nothing on bionis+mechonis, not even close. >Sidequests They are shit in both >World Building X's world building is literally unfinished >Battle System Debatable, I think mechs in X break the game far too much. >Exploration Only one I completely agree with.
Jacob Gomez
You no good rotten weab piece of I wish I knew moon, fuck you
Adrian Phillips
This is the best X has to offer and it is goof, but when you compare it XC's soundtrack, it really isn't a contest. XC is objectively better.
Isaiah Ramirez
XCX has unlikable characters, a worse dub, worse music, and much more padding. But the combat and exploration are improved.
Elijah Bell
Sidequests are godlike in X. It's not like in XC where 90% of it is just fetch quests and then when completed there is very little character building for the NPCs.
Isaac Edwards
>X's setting has nothing on bionis+mechonis, not even close. Bionis+mechonis is only better conceptually, the idea of being on two titans is more interesting than the idea of just being on an alien planet. As an actual world design and in terms of things to see and do, Mira is a much better setting than Bionis/Mechonis hands down
Landon Perez
How the fuck do the mechs break the game? Groundcombat completely outclasses mech combat. I'd understand if you said Overdrive breaks the game, but not the mechs.
>it's a "Shulk and Fiora fly around talking about rights of living beings while fighting" cutscene The game bucks annoying JRPG tropes fairly well for the first two thirds and then it turns into the same old shit.

X has some great music, but it also has some not so great music. The original is much more consistent. >tfw fighting a tyrant

Cry some more.

They are all still MMO tier fetches to me, none of the writing in any of the sidequests made me feel like they were worth it.
XC still had some fantastic looking envirornments. It also helps that there were settlements on the mechs to explore.
Maybe break is the wrong word. I guess mech combat just feels too simple to be enjoyable compared to ground combat.
Ryan Richardson
>but it also has some not so great music. The same is true of XC, with the first main battle theme being actively terrible. I'll take WE'RE STUCK ON A WHOLE DIFFERENT PLANET over Time to Fight! or whatever it's called. Thankfully it gets replaced later on with Mechanical Rhythm, holy fuck that song is hype and it's just a normal battle theme.
Ethan Sanders
>none of the writing in any of the sidequests made me feel like they were worth it
Did you even play the game? And by play I mean ACTUALLY play, not watch an LP.
Dominic Sanchez
>two games in and there's already a black sheep in the franchise Sure can't wait to enjoy Xenoblade 2: Monado Boogaloo by the end of 2019.
Brandon Martinez
They re both good but holy shit XCX has the worst pacing in vidya history
Nathaniel Wilson
Sidequests in X are pretty good, they actually build up the world and the characters that live in it.
Nolan Russell
Which xeno game did the whole "choirs and guitars" track the best
Mech combat IS to simple. It has far to few customization options when compared to ground combat which has customization out the ass. I hope XC2 still has playable mechs and they improve upon what XCX started.

Yes. Of the ones that stick out in my mind I can remember the quests with the water treatment plant (probably the cream of the crop), the xenophobic alium hunter, the Back to the future reference quest, and one about a wedding for a prone fella. When it comes to character sidequests I just straight up dont remember what they were about, I didn't want to grind affinity just to see them.
I just wanted some quests that had more interesting mission structure and ones that give better rewards, along with some memorable characters. There was no way for me to really care for alot of these quests about the aliens because most aliens just have no appreciable stake in the main story at all.

XC is definitly one of my all time favorite RPG's. Absolulty rock solid main cast that all get fleshed out and interact with eachother, a great main story that kept me invested in the action and mystery, huge ass world to explore, really impressive visually and mechanically for the Wii, and the game play while not to demanding never became a chore and offered up some good combos and team management.
I enjoyed XCX equally as much, but for different reasons. Right off the bat the main cast isnt even in the same league as XC. Elma and Lin have their moments and by the end I felt honest to god betrayed by one of them, but there isnt any of the character interaction that you would come to expect after finishing XC. The main story also isnt nearly as good. Again it has its moments but some parts feel very rushed and overall I found the side missions more interesting. However the exploration took what was great from XC and magnified it by 10. The world is huge, diverse, visually appealing, and you got way more ways then just running and fast travel to get around. Also the side quests are a huge step up from XC, lots of them have stories that span multiple quests, develop the supporting cast, expand on New LA, and overall are just a pleasure to find and do. I played for a good 150 hours and didnt even come close to finishing them all. Also I fell in love with my giant fighting robot, durring the invasion chapter it came down to just me, my giant hunk of metal fury, and this big fuck who was begging for an ass kicking. Felt like something that should have been scripted it was one hell of a showdown.
tldr; if you liked exploring and fighting in XC you will love XCX, but if XC's story and main cast is what carries it for you then you might be disappointed with XCX.

Godsibb > Raokimerateresia > Zanza

This one is more accurate to what's really happening.
Nathaniel Richardson
>you dont get a remixed version of over the rainbow for the different areas
its a fine tune to fly too but Id by lying if I said it didnt get a bit old.

I think you're forgetting the fact that only affinity quests require you grind affinity and the rest, which are the really good ones, don't.

The feeling when you take the mech into the air for the first time and Dont Worry starts playing was fucking amazing. Getting one-shotted by Elvira made it even better.
Brody Collins
Im inclined to say X, but killing Zanza was great
Camden Brooks
I really liked X's enemy and armor designs. Hoping we see more like them in later games.
