Your opinion on Rival Schools

Your opinion on Rival Schools

nigga what res is that

i used to play this game in the arcades.

because it was the only game none plays

its fun though.

BEST fighting game I ever played.

Simple enough and really fun, instead of all that technical bullshit and elitism on other games.

who was none?

Sakura is a miracle of the universe.

That looks pretty nice. Damnit, now you got me wanting to play it.

1364x768

Awesome game, we need a new one already

In need of attention.

I always disliked Tiffany's cheerleader outfit as the default option in 1 and the only option in Project Justice. The plain school uniform you unlock in 1 should have been the default.

mediocre

None was...None was special user. Don't bring up that memory again

A game where, somehow, everybody today played and loved it back in the day. But back then literally nobody played it. Not sure where these people are coming from.

great game, but the amount of meter you gain is fucking ridiculous

There were a lot of techs that took 2 or 3 bars but yeah. Still getting a lot of meter

This. Where the fuck are all these people who supposedly played it coming from? Literally nobody played it but 90% of the scrubs in the FGC claim to have loved it. WTF?

best character

classic funtismo

it was non competitive that's why.
you took her out for a spin once or twice. she was an absolute darling and you had your fun together. ultimately you know there's no future for you so you say your fond farewells and quietly move on. the memories you hold close to your heart.

>But back then literally nobody played it.
I don't know about you, but where I lived everyone loved it on ps1 and later Project Justice on a dreamast only one guy had.

As a fighting game it was fun but nothing really special, though the double, and later tripe attacks where really nice. I think the strongest point of the is the character design.

Good taste.

What would you say was its hook? I mean, aside from the school theme. Did it have any truly unique mechanics?

This.

I never knew anyone who tryharder on this game like they tryharded on SF or KOF, I could even play with some fighting game fags and have fun.

Nowadays if you don't play a fighting game everyday and train like an autist there is absolutely no point in playing the game.

Sort of janky, tons of fun in terms of mechanics and presentation. Art and music is cool too.

Roy Bromwell for MvCI

>Playing a PS1 game on HD

DELET DIS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Gotta love that old school Bengus.

A friend of mine had it for PS1 back in the day, played against him so much that I eventually ended up buying a copy for myself.

That's Edayan, not Bengus.

Is it? Huh. Well, a lot of the Capcom illustrators did seem to be on the same page around that time

They all shared a similar Capcom house style in the early to mid 90s, but in the late 90s they started to develop their own personal styles.

I really liked playing some tracks from the game in Stepmania.

...

I fucking love it

I feel like a lot of them were kind of a similar take on the same idea. Compare the art from Mega Man Legends, Rival Schools, Plasma Sword, and Mega Man X (5 and 6) and there are definitely key differences, but still a lot of common ground.

It has great style but gameplay is average still nowadays it has lots of charm because it takes you back.
Back then games were different, they tried to achieve different things than now, they looked different and used different color palete simpler and more colorful.
Feel like it has much more charm now than ever b4.

I loved that game but its a shame that we never got the jap version with all the extra shit like the high school simulation mode and the likes.
Always used the guy (or girl?) who had a helmet and a black suit
Me and my friends used to play it all the time along with Marvel vs Capcom when we were kids. But I'm a spic and we got all of these jap games because they were pirated and you could get like 5 of them for 2 bucks.

It's got some fucking A+ fap material

Gameplay is unbalanced, but the characters are neat.

very bda

it was avergae but it had enough style that it looked good and felt good, i like to think it stood out from the rest even if it wasn't nearly as popular as other games. it sure as hell wasn't like the million other trash fighting games that were on the ps.

Felt like them saying "we need a 3d street fighter" which they eventually did but still. Some really strong character designs, akira is one of my favorite character designs. Really wish her and Batsu would make a comeback in a street fighter or a vs game. Batsu was fun in TvC.

Nah.
Cute, but power armor akira best akira.

...

AAAKTREEEENNNN

I dont remember many fighters on psx what I remember is that even Destrega that got 6/10 in opm plays fairly decently now.

>that batsu in the back

haha oh boy

Best boy.

That I'll have to admit, but President Weeaboo formerly known as racist baka gaijin Chad is a good runner-up. Terry who?

looks like shes getting raped from the thumbnail

well i had it on ps1, no internet to challenge other people, no arcade had it near me, only a couple friends to play with. if they released a new one today i'd buy it

My mains, man I miss this series.

>if they released a new one today i'd buy it
They won't even release a new Darkstalkers, they're not going to revive a series that wasn't even half as successful.

God you're such drama queens

Fuck, I remember I had the japanese ps1 version and it had somesort of VN segment and I would try my best to finish it but the moonrunes fucked me hard, I remember I learned the kanjis for Hinata

I can't wait for Capcom to ruin her in Street Fighter V!

I love the character design and played it as a child but i have no idea how it holds as a competitive fighter.

Tiffanny really impressed my young mind with her tag art.

Char design is the best, its cliche in every aspect from laces to buttons.
You look at character and you instantly know what they are, makes you feel at home right from the start.

>I think the strongest point of the is the character design.
It's a shame that if any characters ever get used out of it it's going to be the boring-ass Taiyo trio and Akira. Too many other great characters like Ran, Chairperson, Hayato and Zaki going to waste.

It was a just a fun visually game.

I've never played much of this game seriously but Nagare was a hit with everyone i knew

didnt itsuno tried to get people pumped for a rival schools 3 on twitter?

This, I think most people remember Rival schools from the characters.

>My boy Roberto may as well have been retconned by now.

It's an okay game to play occasionally, when taking breaks from the usual games.

Kind of a bastard child of Marvel and SF with Tekken movements w/o KBDs. Game feels stiff or sluggish.

Not a game I'd play seriously though.

Yes, and Ono tried for several years to get people pumped for a Darkstalkers 4. It didn't work.

>bats and baseballs
>volleyball fighting style
>football/soccer style
>fucking synchronised swimming in the ground

The sports school was crazy fun.

Its nice he still wants to make another one, I would have wholly considered it a pipe dream if I was him.

oh i don't expect them to, just saying i would. pocket fighter, darkstalkers, mega man, hell even a new cyberbots game I'd buy.

I read this series had character creation that was only in the Japanese version; how was it?

>cyberbots
I'd rather a new Tech Romancer.

>This, I think most people remember Rival schools from the characters.
Rival Schools is very much Capcom's attempt at making an SNK style game. More ridiculous but memorable character design (compared to Street Fighter's more toned back ones), more overt modern anime influence, emphasis on elements like story, character personalities, etc. plus four buttons.

Never played it but it wasn't just character creation but IIRC full on dating sim/VN kind of stuff so you can date Chairperson, the thinking man's waifu.

meh

Nothing special, the clothes are basic

I love Natsu

japan makes the best games
