What are some other games with the Demon's Souls/Dark Souls aesthetic? The gloomy, hopeless atmosphere and the medievil/mythical beings (knights, dragons, undead, etc)

All I can think of is the Souls series, Diablo, and Castlevania

Darkest Dungeon
SMT series, sans medieval era.
Hollow Knight

shadow of the colossus has a gloomy heavy atmosphere

Demon's Crest
Odallus

Grim Dawn. people like to hate it but it's fun for what it is

Bitterblack Isle expansion for Dragon's Dogma probably counts.

Also Quake 1
Metroid Prime 2 kinda

The Dreams half of Alundra

ICO is probably a better example, wide open spaces are rare in Souls, which SOTC is almost entirely made up of. ICO was a direct inspiration for Souls (especially the undead burg type areas) and exploring the castle you start to see how it all connects, much like shortcuts and stuff in Souls.

The gameplay is nothing alike, but the level design, atmosphere and vague storytelling are reminisant.

>noone says king's field or shadow tower

C'mon man.

Koudelka

It has some sequels but I never played them.

Eternal Darkness

Blade of Darkness.

>ICO
Legacy of Kain series.

Alundra (Trust me it does)
Shadow Hearts
Shadow Tower

>all this soap on the screen
Why?

Resident Evil
Silent Hill

holy trifecta of nipponese gloom and doom

Planescape Torment?

I would recommend the first Shadowman if you can deal with the annoying sound effects.

The first Devil May Cry, maybe.
I haven't played a single Souls game yet because reasons

King's Field and Shadow Tower Abyss. Play them asap, they are like proto-Souls.

Did any of their first person PS2 games ever use a playable control scheme similar to modern FPS's?

Yeah DMC1 is pretty spooky, good choice. Soulsfags could probably appreciate that one more than the other games in the series. DMC1 is special in atmosphere though, and still a pretty superb action game to this day.

No, I remember Shadow Tower Abyss having more or less human controls.
Problem isn't even the way you control the character, but a slo-mo turning speed. Really takes some time to get used to it.

That too. But I just really hate moving the camera and character at the same time.

Don't let controls keep you away from playing them. They are really great RPGs.

I'm myself more a fan of a really minimalistic ICO-esque Demon's Souls atmosphere and KF4 totally nails it.

bloodborne

I have tried a few of them. Never could get into them due to the controls though. Which is a shame because otherwise there seemed pretty dope.

Anybody mention salt and sanctuary?

You can try them on an emulator and fuck around with the controls to map the camera to the analog. That's what I did myself.

Tried it with Eternal Ring I think, and it just didn't work all that well since the game just isn't built with it in mind. It got a bit better but it was still a major pain in the ass to play it.

Not exactly the same, but I think Drakengard 1, Nier & Nier Automata captured this dead world perfectly. Automata being closest.

>odallus
no.

Medievil PS1 actually.

Super underrated game and the primitive PS1 graphics actually add to what you are looking for. Don't play the remake though. Heard they botched it.

You just don't get good unique games like it anymore.

These

Ok. What is it this time, berserk reference trigger your autism? muh "indie pixel garbage"?
