It would help to say which model

2016 13 inch
It's pretty weak, but can run Half Life and shit

MacOS X is limited to OpenGL 4.1, and its drivers are slower for gaming than any other platform. Even if you install another OS you're still going to face the issue of having low end onboard Intel graphics.

10+ year old games, and Indie games are probably your best bet.

macs are bad
*le gamer face*

Macbooks ain't for playing user,
they're to show that you're important and a really busy person

When in doubt, Doom always works. ALWAYS.

"pretty weak"
Nigga you are crazy my 2012 macbook could run skyrim.

It wouldn't.
All Macs are shit.

America's Army 2.5

how?

The intel HD graphics aren't terrible and can run most modern games at the lowest graphics you just can't get the high end ultra settings. The problem with the integrated graphics cards has something to do with the available virtual memory (also could be the ram) or something like that and can shit out in some games. MacBook's processors are always top of the line. Also don't remember if skyrim has a mac version but I would a partition of windows on mine anyway

Cave Story

Warcraft 3, nigger - natively! And most OpenGL-based games through WINE.

Well here's some benchmarks as an idea, anything before 2012 should be perfectly playable so long as you use Windows. This is for the MBP without a touch bar, of yours has one it's slightly better

>want to play system shock on a new mac
>put the disc in, and looks like it will work
>click the install icon
>Sorry, we broke compatibility for older software. Better luck next time :^)

It doesn't. Runs through WINE decently though on anything past 2012.

microsoft solitaire

o wait nvm

I played hotline miami on my macbook, was good.

>tfw when no virus threat ever

Feels great pc faggots, ps4 and switch muster race

>tfw when no virus threat ever
They're still macfags who believe this. I mean, it's signifanctly less than than Windows, but come on

Who the fuck still gets viruses on windows.
Are we in 2005?

Surely there's a classic MacOS compatibility layer out there.
Otherwise, try out the version from GoG with either
DOSbox (originally developed to play DOS games on GNU/Linux, now the standard way to run DOS software even on Windows)
or
Wine (originally developed to play Win32 games on GNU/Linux, probably going to follow the same course as DOSbox in the future)

I think the original System Shock was DOS, 2 though definitely runs on Wine even the version you can buy from Steam is just a Wine bundle now.

Turn on the news some time, user. WannaCry just fucked Britbongland hard.

>macs are bad

Yeah on those retard offices still running windows xp because they are afraid of change.

And not that much being afraid of change, it's rather a huge hassle. Linzences must be renewed/upgraded, which is also costly for major organisations. As stupid as it may be, that's the reality in coporate Windows world. Just pretending noone gets viruses is pretty ignorant.

At least you wont have to play pic related

>pirated over 1000 different forms of media over the last 3 years while having 30 tabs of porn open half the time

So... how do you get a virus on a mac ?

Sure, you got me. Mac is better on a corporate environment.
Which is pretty irrelevant to this conversation considering this is a videogames board.
If you have viruses on your home desktop PC nowadays you must be an inbred retard.

Don't know, I don't use MacOS - just follow the news, which report infections time and time again.

Your "statement" was "lol do people still get those?" to which the answer is a clear "yes".

>lol do people really eat their own feces
>yeah my retard little brother did yesterday
The word people doesn't encompass the whole world population, only the subjects relevant to the conversation.

Binding of Isaac

Mac is also better for graphic design work. Anyone who argues Macs are in any way passable for gaming is a fucking lunatic though.

steam has shit all for mac games its a damn shame. Even simple shit like doom and quake aint for mac even though it once was. Ive been trying to get AVP 2000 to play all day and still no success

russian roulette

You can play more than you think natively. If you have Steam, it automatically will tell you what games.

But my answer would be, use fucking bootcamp. I had hundreds of hours on Starcraft, Minecraft (alpha), old GTAs, and newest 2D indie games on my 2012 macbook pro, and still kicking.

Modern Intel Laptops should be powerful enough to play even recent games at low settings

Anything from 2015 and below should be fine.

>Mac is also better for graphic design work.
Hasn't really been true for a while with Adobe going stupid with their licensing and Apple falling behind technologically.
Outside of Adobe's stuff all the other high level professional UNIX graphics suites that made OS X popular in the first place for graphic design run on GNU/Linux just as well as or better than OS X.

>Anyone who argues Macs are in any way passable for gaming is a fucking lunatic though.
Very true, Apple has held back gaming on their platform by refusing to allow either modern OpenGL or Vulkan onto their platform.
Plus the drivers they release are slower than the drivers on any other platform including the unofficial open source ones.

>Even simple shit like doom and quake aint for mac even though it once was.

Blame Zenimax, they have no concept of anything other than Windows even when Id is still doing things properly using cross-platform technology unlike most game devs these days.

You can still get the classic Pre-Zenimax Id games running on OS X or GNU/Linux pretty easily. you just need the game data files from the disk, and then a native binary from one of the open source projects.

Is particularly cool, though it won't do you any good on OS X since Apple refuse to support modern standards.
