Games like the surge are purely about combat and bossfights.
The combat is better, but they still missed details that make Souls so good. Like having weapons that have a lot of different moves that combo into each other. But not in the sense you press X X Y and something happens only in that order, more like those little moves you get for doing a roll attack, or a backsteb attack.
And really when it comes down to it if you dont find the weapons fun then the whole system falls down.

There is literally nothing unique or definitive about the Souls franchise, it's a callback to King's Field that derives a large degree of its mechanical hallmarks from Monster Hunter, which itself borrows from King's Field. This game, LOTF, and other shitty ripoffs are failing to realize where the core of the combat's functionality comes from, which is why they are all shit. "Slow" isn't a good determining factor for what makes combat good, it's all about how deliberate attacks are. This game is no different from any other MH clone. In fact, it's pretty much Freedom Wars with obscenely shittier combat, painfully more generic environments, enemies, and character design, and seemingly even LESS of a boring, dull story. "Souls-like" is a meme, please stop trying to force it.
I really hate Witcher 3 for setting this unreasonable expectation that every game should be at least 100 hours long or it's not worth the money.

Just watched videos of all the bosses and some areas. Why do all the enemies and bosses look so generic in this game. First boss is a template generic mech, sechond boss is a ring with 4 legs, third boss is literally just a few metal arms with weapons attached to them, hacking away at you, 4th boss is LITERALLY just the first boss THREE TIMES IN A ROW and the last boss is another generic "le evil-black ooga booga monster mash up of all the nanites"

Attacks which have different paces and speeds that reward players for timing and punish them for swinging will-nilly without a care in the world. If the overall speed of the game is such that every attack you loose is not even worthy of the mental calculation of everything around you, the attacks are not deliberate, they are just poorly animated and poorly thought out.
Monster Hunter has deliberate attacks which are strikingly fast, because the blowback from enemies is markedly faster, does dramatically higher damage output than you could even dream of, and even with their relative speed, locking yourself into a multi-hit attack can be an outright death sentence in many cases. This game simply has "Slow" attacks so it looks like they are weighted, but when everything is painfully slow, the entire structure falls apart due to how your attacks aren't really made with any timing in mind, simply when is a vaguely decent time to bash this hoverbot or that exo-zombie.

If you can't squeeze $1 per hour out of a game for the price tag, it's already a bad investment. Innumerable people on Sup Forums have spent hundreds of hours on every single Souls-borne game, some more than others, and maybe that $2/hr value wouldn't have mattered in your first run, but if your game burns out after one run, and clearly has nothing else interesting to do, it's a shitty investment.
