why the fuck does this game use so much cpu and ram

The core gameplay is good, but needs a lot of fixing and polishing before release. Even if they manage to do that, it's going to be dead anyway, "champions" are either ugly or/and have insufferable voices and lines; doesn't have cool loot; new players (everyone who hasn't spent years in Q3A/QL) are getting stomped. The audience for this game is tiny, if there is any at all.

I mean it's good, but for once I think we really are playing the actual beta version of the game instead of just a demo. Performance seems to vary a ton between machines, I'm like 99% sure the nailgun's hitreg is glitched because it almost never hits what it's supposed to, and on a minor note a lot of the "medals" meant to entice the newbies to keep playing by telling them they're excellent for getting a double kill just flat out don't work.

took me 3 minutes to load up and I play at .000004fps. Havn't played it since that.

it's quake with passive and active skills, it's pretty good if you know how to play quake. But yeah i agree the audience for this game is really tiny and i'm already looking at n00bs complaining about balance and how to make the game accessible to less skilled players.

Needs more optimization or something. Takes fucking ages to load and FPS jitters for like the first 1-3 minutes of a match, and then some. Uninstalled for now.

I want to say it's just me being shit, but I used to be pretty okay at Quake but I can't kill anyone with full health in this.

Haven't played the recent betas. I hope they add a classic mode where every character is equal and no powers

The only 2 balance complaint I have is the lack of a weapon that fires in an arc. When you combine that with the weird delay the RL has that make jumping a little bit iffy sometimes height advantage becomes a bit too good.

Game needs fucking dedicated servers.

Beyond that I really enjoy it, it's nice to actually play Quake against people who haven't been playing it their entire lives.

Quake is about getting the pickups first. The mega health and armor.

You don't enter fights without a good health stack, you run away from them.

The shop is useless. The cosmetic hats you can buy are all tiny little shit, like removing left knee guard or extra padding to heels. Too many characters look 20 something teenagers. You know exactly what I mean. Announcer sounds bored.

People don't seem to realise they have saw. Nor that they can rocket-jump.

i'm a fan of the characters having different movements, like q4 and cpm. not a fan of the abilities or different hitboxes.

I only think Nyx's ability is harmful to the nature of Quake, beyond that the other abilities are fair game.

Pulling off Ranger's Slipgate is so satisfying.

The only tanky guy I really think should be squishier is Shieldbearer because of the armor on his charge as well as his hitbox being the smallest of the 3. Clutch is slow as fuck and huge so even though he's super tanky he's not really a problem since you can just LG him easily. Sorlag would be an issue except I think she loses speed if she tries strafejumping so she tends to be predictable.

Really I have a much harder time killing the squishy guys. They're fast, have tiny hitboxes, and their actives more than make up for their low HP.

Air control, high starting HP and armor, strong ability. Visor is what I personally play because he is closest to vq3 style physics.

Her stats are great, her active is really good, and her passive makes her one of the few characters who can actually hit their air speed cap reliably and maintain it way longer than anyone else with her great air control.

sorlag's bunnyhopping and her active give area control when you use it at chokepoints and on top of shit like mega health, armor, and even weapons, and as a bonus if you're against another sorlag you can't get damaged by their acid shit
she also has the highest hp and armor cap along with clutch
ranger is pretty good but kind of squishy without powerups but has the advantage of mobility, escapes, and getting to powerups real fuckin quick with his ability

it's pretty good, but

- rocket launcher is shit

- hmg is op

- not enough weapon variety, just starter weapons and better versions of those. where's grenade launcher, plasma and chaingun ?

- duel mode is lame. keep 3 character limit but make it 10 min and 1 min respawn on each character. so if you kill all within 1 min you win otherwise they can be used again.

- load times and pre-game garbage takes WAAAAAYY too fucking long

- netcode and performance is underwhelming.

How would you even do that? Shamblers aren't intelligent creatures, they're mindless abominations, not to mention they're fucking huge and can't properly hold guns anyway. Q1 is all weird monster things and the only humanoid enemies are Ogres (which I doubt they'd add) and Grunts/Enforcers who are literally just Ranger with less saturated armor.

I know that they're bringing back the blue skeleton guy from Quake III Arena (I think? I didn't play it, I'm a Quake 1 fag) but they're making him look like the skeleton knights from Quake 1. I thought that was pretty cool.

And, I only said "Based on", not literally a shambler. A monster-y character with a mouth face and a lightning-related active ability would be more in line with the idea.

They made a bunch of heavy chamls and didn't even make a single reference to Strogg or Tankjr. The chances of shamblers are even slimmer.

Bones is from Q3A, yeah; we don't know if the skeleton dude in the leak is actually Bones but it'd be surprising if it wasn't. Also, if by skeleton knights you mean the sword-slingers in Q1, neither the normal Knights nor the bigger, badder Death Knights are undead, much less skeletonized- it's just their low-poly "round" heads and limited color palette and texture detail that can make them look like skulls. Knights actually have most of their faces exposed, and Death Knights have a big ol' stubble-covered jaw and chin.

Also, Ranger has a cosmetic where he wears a Shambler's hide on his head.

Visor isn't Strogg and never was.

Bethesda Launcher is cancer holy shit. Game is okay, but needs major optimization

every weapon but the railgun and rocket launcher is fucking useless. I can perfectly track a guy at 100/100 with the nailgun for a full 5 seconds and he's not going to come close to dying. that was one of my complaints with q3a compared to ut99 and it feels even worse now.

the abilities aren't as important as I thought they would be and the gameplay is still mostly quake live-ish (which is not a bad thing).

the cash shop bullshit is just icing on the cake since I assume bethsoft will be selling this game at full price.

I actually thought I was going to hate the dumb hero shit, but I actually ended up enjoying it. The only one I thought was dumb as Nyx's invisibility.

That said, I did also play as lizard mom and laughed as I killed people from the grave, so if you're going up against that I can see why it would be lame.

Nailgun feels really weird to use, probably because you can't fucking see the projectiles so learning how to lead with it is pure trial and error + muscle memory.

I've had performance problems and a LOT of lag on EU servers. Gameplay is fun but balance seems bad, Rocket Launcher is overpowered and everything else essentially useless. And apparently you can't but characters with in-game currency, only real money? Not sure

QC is pretty fun but there's no way it will ever be a viable e-sport like previous Quakes or popular with the general public.

I agree that the grenade launcher is missing.
Plasma overlaps with nailgun, the only difference being that it's really hard to see the nailgun projectiles.
Quake 3 never had a chaingun, unless you're looking for Quake 2's or DOOM's chainguns.

You can apparently get them in lootcrates, but the odds are probably really low.

Honestly I don't really mind this compared to shit where you've got to grind for weeks just to get one character. At least like this the good old "make new character OP then nerf them after everyone's bought them" f2p strat won't work.

They gave all the character for free last beta. You can get them from chests as well.

My verdict is that even if I've had it installed for several beta weekends I can't get myself to play it.

I'm not offended by the champ abilities/stats like other people are, but it doesn't seem to add much to the game. UT2K4 was more forward thinking in terms of changeups to the formula than QC. Also is it just me or is the rocket launcher a lot slower than it was in Q3A?

cowadooty used to have strafe jumping and the new games have fancy movement mechanics i think

Q3TA had the best changeups to the formula without fucking it up and implemented things similar to techs for the base game but nobody ever talks about it. Also the rocket launcher isn't slower it's that there's currently a delay when using it.
