i remember buying XIV thinking it would be similar to ultima online based on all the systems they described and your characters physical attributes not being linked to class experience, very odd how things ended up

XI had its own set of problems related to this. By isolating the character leveling from the story quest, it effectively made the story quests "side content." The majority of the player base spent all of their time leveling jobs then hunting NMs, and the only reason why they'd bother to go through the story arcs was to get to the zones that the NMs were in.
Everything in cinematics, nothing in game play like usual.
Aren't they going to cost actual money? That's not a solution, that's a shitty patch up job to terrible design.
