i wish ow was more like tf2, its too restrictive. you play the same meta comp, run down the same choke, spam the same abilities, over and over. tf2 atleast had variety with the load outs and understands its casual. ow feels like playing competitive rock paper scissors even if the controls feel tighter

OW is boring. Do not get the hype at all. It's way too slow and spammy by tf2 standards.

TF2 is literally the most autistic thing I've ever had the misfortune of seeing grow popular. It's more autistic than Minecraft, and that's a game where you build shit with coloured blocks.

It's incredibly amazing how fucking autistic any and every tf2 fan I've ever interacted with has been. Even the character models look fucking autistic and downie as fuck.

OW is slow as and floaty. TF2's controls are tight as hell and a legitimate contender for one of the best movement systems in multiplayer FPS.

TF2 would not be as good as it was if rocket/sticky jumping were not as great s they are. I can confidently say, even pitted against stuff like TFC or Q3, TF2 has better rocket jumping.

It's likely they aren't doing live readings and just have the actors record lines separately, which is why in-game conversations always sound so stilted and awkward.

A lot of them are also pretty much actors that only get minor roles or do stuff like standup and theater.

There are some major VAs in the cast though. Matthew Mercer as McCree, Fred Tatasciore as Soldier 76, Keith Ferguson as Reaper, Paul Nakauchi as Hanzo, off the top of my head.

But I never left TF2, user.
I still play it to this day, pubstomp people and get accused of cheating everytime.

It's because TF2's rocket jumping comes from old Quakeworld physics, so you get full air control while doing so and the increased height when crouching compared to GoldSrc.

To be fair though, the game is almost hilariously rife with hackers. The only thing that's probably got worse hacking epidemics are CODs on last gen consoles.

To be fair, TF2 is a game about two rich idiots hiring teams of psychopaths and lunatics to murder each other over gravel. Something of a different tone compared to "the world could use more heroes".

TF2's character banter and setting was superior to OW's since the day it came out, when it was just "RED vs BLU" without a hint of backstory beyond that.

To be frank most of the stuff they've added isn't actually that funny at all. Saxton Hale and everything related to him is just awful. That's why the best things are the shorts and comics when they focus on the classes themselves.

But even when the stuff is more "serious" the associated lines lack any impact. Soldier 76 and Reaper pretty much ruined each other's lives and what you get when killing the either can barely be called a pithy quip.

I geniunely loved playing Overwatch for the first few months that it came out. Somewhere near the end of Season 1 it seemed to start to go to shit when you notice how you have to play in meta if you want to get beyond rank 80.
Ana was a cool addition but I think Sombra sucked and the newer character the introduced doesn't interest me.
It was the most fun I had a game in years but I can't bring myself to play it again.

TF2 has more more severe damage dropoff for all weapons that don't belong to Sniper.

Compare Solder 76 and McCree who can shoot across maps effectively.

So almost all TF2 combat takes place at mid-to-close range.

Overwatch characters also move much more slowly, and the difference between a character with a "fast" running speed like Tracer, and "slow" like the tanks is trivial.

The other half of it is the glut of abilities that stop gameplay. All the tanks have some kind of shield that trivialize attacks. Zarya has her bubbles, D.Va has the defense matrix, Winston, Reinhardt and Orisa all have barriers. Other characters have things like Tracer's "recall" which can trivialize her low health anyway, or Genji who basically has the pyro's airblast on training wheels, which he can cancel into a long range dash.

Pharah is also comparatively weaker in her current state. While her rockets don't really drop off like Soldier's, they really don't have a big splash that can clip people and scare off an approach. It's easy even as a slow character like Zenyatta to weave around a distant Pharah's rockets. She also can't really juggle outside of her cooldown-dependent conc blast.

Meanwhile once a Soldier(or Demoman) gets a hit on a Scout or Demo and successfully bounces them upwards, it can be a death sentence since a competent player can easily follow it up with another rocket, or a shotgun blast or even something like the notorious Reserve Shooter combo.

The niches in TF2 are also extremely well-defined, compared to Pharah where while she enjoys more use nowadays thanks to Mercy's buffs, there's really not many where you wouldn't be better off going with Soldier 76 or Tracer. Mercy and Pharah will always be tied together, but we're still in the Lucio/Ana era.

In TF2, Soldier/Demo/Scout excel in small skirmishes/duels like the standard competitive 6 vs 6, while specialists like Heavy or Engineer will thrive in 12 vs 12, hence rocket man dominance.

Thanks for the write-up user, I don't play enough OW to jump to my own conclusions about this. I'm guessing the prevalence of hits can makes her floating a lot more dangerous than Soldier's bombing.
Also sounds like Pharah has a Liberty Launcher desu.

Liberty Launcher is unironically my favorite rocket launcher.

Pharah also has "weaker" mobility. She can rapidly ascend and can do a Walmart rocket jump with her concussion blast, but the game puts a hard cap on max speed for this and you will rapidly decelerate.

Being in the air, away from the protection of tanks compromises her advantage of vertical superiority.

She also lacks comparative durability to Soldier who's only 2nd to Heavy in terms of how much damage he can soak up. Even if you don't kill her, it doesn't take too much concentration to scare off a Pharah, even if she's got Mercy in tow.

Compare that to "Roamer" Soldiers in competitive play. Look how much they rocket jump across small areas just to corner scouts or get around a demo's volleys. They often eschew shotguns for the Gunboats.

A competent rocket jumper can cross entire maps in a handful of seconds.

Yes, TF2 community is toxic at the moment but there are still pockets of decent servers. Personally I like to play payload, and I don't play for cosmetics.

Currently enjoying Scout and using Atomic Punch to distract sentries while the team pushes forward, incredibly versatile and powerful class if used correctly. I never really played Soldier but I'll be going for that next. BTW, I got the game when it was sold for 20$

I didn't completely ignore it, I just didn't master rocket jumping. I couldn't appreciate the skill level it took to be a good soldier since most games are full of people who enjoy losing anyhow.

For most games, no not really. But if you would like to be an effective soldier that captures intel/pushes the payload as well as destroys sentries instead of limbo'ing as a team in a choke point then yeah... the classes take some skill.

I could be wrong but I believe people hated TF2 Competitive because of the skill ceiling that was actually involved, since it went F2P it really attracted a lot of communities that aren't really gamers in the first place.

The one thing that turns me off from TF2 is that there isn't really any reliable mid-range weapon. Just shotguns, inaccurate pistols, and projectiles.
