About to pick this up, how long is it?
u mad white boi?
my first play-through took me 44 hours to get to the real ending.
Artstyle is godawful like all indie shit, but is it fun?
hollow shills at it again
Metroid
>Artstyle is godawful like all indie shit
this has a better artstyle than 99% of indies
it reminds me of that Wario Land game on Wii
was that because it was difficult, frustrating or it's just that long?
The art style is fine, faggot.
Ori is my favorite but haven't played many games in the genre.
if you don't use a guide, there's a lot of poking around. There is fast travel options but they're not always useful. I'd say about 15 hours to beat it, maybe 25 - 30 to 100%, depending on how fast you can pick up on things and connect the dots.
gotta do a lot of shit
this is the full map
I can't decide a favorite but Hollow Knight won't be one of them
youtube.com
has anyone played this? still trying to figure out if its a metroidvania or if its a hack n slash
Lol
I'll stick with the bunny. Bullet hell is fun and the devs are cool with leaving in glitches.
generally a metroidvania if you find things that grant you new skills to progress
>Bullet hell
please stop misusing this term to make your game sound impressive
then how is hollowknight a metroidvania LOL
Stay mad Hollow Shill.
there seems to be evidence of that with the gameplay in the trailer, but the game's so obscure its pretty much impossible to find anything gameplaywise besides whats shown
Rabi Ribi
It's one of the few single player games where I have clocked over a 100 hours in and have played through more than 3 times.
if you only played it through 3 times wouldnt you have only played 6 hours
People who take that long tend to try to 100% everything and get all the shit. That and if no guide there's a fair amount of walking you need to do and the quick travel becomes increasingly less useful the further in you go as the final levels don't have it. Pretty good game. I would've bought it if the game wasn't filled with bugs when it was first released, no pun intended. Waiting on DLC to buy it.
Because outside of certain things that can be exploited to bypass the items required, you do gain new skills to access new areas.
This is insanely fun so far. Pretty incomplete so if you don't like beta testing, hold off on buying, but the controls feel amazing and the combat has considerable depth. Graphics are fantastic too
The procedural levels actually work too. Mostly because they're only somewhat generated. It incorporates many full designed components
Music fucking sucks though and one track is a direct rip-off of Heartbeats by The Knife
posted it my man
Does Hollow Knight get better? I'm like an hour in and nothing other than the atmosphere and animation has sucked me in. I kind of enjoyed the first boss battle but it had inescapable damage and other than that, the combat is really unfun so far
There's a lot of backtracking, which doesn't make it bad but sometimes it is a chore to get from City of Tears back down to Ancient Basin
Rabi-ribi's not that short. My first playthrough lasted me about 40 hours.
>Does a series in which combat and movement gradually opens up get better after the first hour?
Gee I dunno
>rabi ribi
>Bullet hell
32 and I'm not that good at video games.
>Using the first boss as example
Top cherrypicking senpai
It's not long or frustrating it's just deceptive in its design. If you're not observant enough you may very well have to go back to certain areas but the backtracking itself isn't as a grand as most people think. Most people never think to check certain areas again. I was guilty of it myself. I could probably blow through the game in a few hours knowing what I know now.
>tfw didn't care since making money is so stupidly easy in this game
the one on the right is also a first boss
It does, but the combat stays pretty basic all the way through. You just have to dodge increasingly elaborate attacks. The combat isn't bad but IMO the core attraction of the game is exploration and mapping.
>but it had inescapable damage
Hint: it did not.
No boss has inescapable damage, but if you find yourself being hit too often use different charms or head on down to the Abyss to grab the move that lets you go through enemy attacks.
its on torrent sites to just grab it from igg
Pretty much how I feel about this too.
Enjoyed it a lot despite a lot of bullshit deaths and shitty upgrades. That saying, there was a lot less of those than I would expect in an early version of a game.
ffff he's at the very beginning why did you decide to spoil an endgame area?
I got 100% in 31 hours, and like 5 of those hours was filling out the bestiary which is completely optional and not required for the best ending.
Once you get the dash, the game will get faster and more enjoyable. I also remember my interest dwindling before I got it.
How long did The Palace take you?
Switch when?
When they finish the game with DLC and stuff, maybe
I didn't exactly time that out but not THAT long. I died a fair few times but eventually got through it. Eventually ended up equipping the Hiveblood charm and that made things much easier.
I'm the 32 hour guy and it took me 4 fucking hours. WITH the trick you've mentioned. I nearly quit the game in frustration haha.
Took me about 2 hours maybe. Had to equip Hiveblood since I couldn't figure out how to reliably get past the spears at the end of one of the paths
shill
Something that's not pretentious ripped off from Souls' indieshit
The game has nothing to do with Dark Souls..
>4 hours
Well, at least you made it through. But seriously.
Why would Hollow Knight have to rip off a worse game?
Blaster master zero is good.
How is owlboy?
Good looking and bad playing.
27 hours and got true ending 92% complete. I just cant beat that final Colosseum.
The more "metroid" there is in a metroidvania, the worse the game becomes. The only good indie metroidvanias are:
- La-Mulana
- La-Mulana 2
- Hollow Knight
- Ghost Song
- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Games like ori, shovel knight, cavestory etc. are not real Metroidvania games, they are garbage games and a waste of time.
>ori is garbage
>bloodstained is good
system shock
>cute creature
>feminine aesthetics
>passivism propaganda
>platformer, not metroidvania
Ori is dogshit, only betas, faggots, women and children could enjoy it, die from cancer faggot, get the fuck out of gaming, retards like you are the reason gaming is going down in quality.
I'm not good at platforming, have never played any difficult platformers and the rest of the game did nothing to prepare me for this shit.
>Bloodstained
Game's not out yet, retard. End this meme already.
m8 everyone here is a woman dick or get the fuck out.
Shovel Knight has never been intended to be a Metroidvania, you fucking brain abortion.
Retard
whats the story?
it has shortcuts that skip the hard parts just break open the walls
>>- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
its not out yet
shovel knight is a melee megaman
Only problems I have with HK are that it has needless backtracking which can get on your nerves, the fact that geo becomes useless lategame and the fact that notches aren't really optimised in contrast to all the charms you can collect. Other than that, I'd recommend the game to anyone who likes metroidvania, solid 9/10 imo
Mobadis
>look up Ghost Song
>not even released yet
>La-Mulana 2 and Bloodstained aren't released either
Tried playing this game on my T420 and got input lag out the ass, couldn't even get past the tutorial section because I couldn't jump on platformers. Guess I won't play it.
hmmm it'd have to be.... yes, yes! it's definitely this one if i had to choose *post spciture of most favoritest metroidvania game*
Get a better computer you faggot.
Probably guacamelee
Never finished it but it was fun while it lasted.
Rainworld
Rabi-ribi
I can't resist Kirby in any fashion.
about 45 minutes, I play a lot of platformers though. I just wish the buzz saws were quieter, this beautiful music is playing...
youtube.com
and all I can hear is RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
game had legit lag issues, made the colosseum of fools painful to do
don't know if they ever fixed them
They kinda did, but every time I double jumped there was like a 10% chance the game would hiccup. That's all I recall though.
It can be extremely frustrating in the beginning, i almost dropped it, but sticking with it is absolutely worth it, it's now one of my favorite games.
The protagonist makes more sense than any dark souls protagonist. Other than that there are a few similar mechanics, sure, but souls is a good game, why shouldn't other games take mechanics that work really well? There is nothing wrong with ripping something off if the result puts some spin on it and is good.
Not that long actually. I was really surprised that people thought that it's extremely hard and unfair considering the generous re-spawn location and regeneration talisman.
I am an ESA shill
Buy ESA
Sell me harder.
Bugs have no business being this cute and fuckable
Bug is not for fug
i wanna ask a question all of you.
why do you call platfrom games "metroidvania"?
are other platforms games "mariovania" for you?
>kings door
>the abyss
darksouls?
This map looks almost identical to SotN except the right side doeant have the tower with the elevator.....and a little less on the bottom left underground.
Miyazaki didn't invent doors, kings, and the word 'abyss'
Lots of optional collectible goodies
But you'll have to get quite a few to get the true ending
is this game ever gonna go on sale or should I just buy it?
I also heard the game has bosses and checkpoints, what a fucking rip off of darksouls.
LISA
If you've waited this long, wait a bit more for the DLC. It's been almost 3 months, surely some news or update will show up eventually...
>3 month old game
>will it ever go on sale?
Have some patience user.
