>the only way to have this happen to you is to open a phishing email
I'm edging until these guys get caught
But what if there really are hot singles in my area looking to fuck, or some poor african prince who needs help getting money out of the country. What if I really did win the facebook lottery!?
*reinstalls Windows and boots from a backup*
>It's not on Windows 10
>It was updated months ago as well
Everyone who got affected are dumbasses with only themselves to blame
If you have a fully updated system, yes. Otherwise you can get it just by being on the same network as someone who has it.

ITT it is 5 days ago.
If you're on the same network as somebody who'd get infected then I think you have bigger problems than ransomware

if it infects the power supply it can go through your electricity too
I heard it's evolved airborne transmission now
anybody remember the sasser/blaster worm?
i got infected even after formatting with a fresh windows install while being offline
Is stuff like this common? it never happened to me in all my years of using internet
This.
Aside from having to redownload a few games from Steam , I have backups of other stuff
Only if you're a moron and open phishing emails or browse the Dark Web without any prep.
You don't have to personally do a single thing. It can spread through another computer on your network. All it takes is one retard and a entire office can be infected.
it's definitely worth checking up on Sup Forums to change a few things in registry to be protected.

>Is stuff like this common? it never happened to me in all my years of using internet
Only if you're a stupid and tech illiterate like Podesta or something.
"Don't click fishy links in fishy emails, duh"
Disable SMBv1 in the registry.
Nice try fag, but I keep my porn secured inside my phone.
Because Britneyspears.sex.tape.avi.exe is far more interesting.

Go for the blue UFOs and not be a complete shitter.
>opening emails you don't recognize
Fun fact, the guy who made it was a shitter and thus made it vulnerable to CheatEngine
My computer died with lots of rare dailymotion porn. Now dailymotion is such a shit I don't even go there anymore.
I heard he also managed to infect his own machine.
Once I found out who downgraded my PC to a version that's susceptible to this shit, and punched them for it, time to wipe the installation and grab my files from the backup.
I don't understand how people can not have a backup these days. Storage is ridicolously cheap.
...Jesus crist, I never knew cheetah babies looked like muppets
Man, Dailymotion used to be special.
What do you need to back up on a pc, it's literally just for porn and vidya at this point. Everything else is handled via smartphones.
Really? Does people still tech illiterate these days??
Businesses never update shit man.
Didn't he write a tool to get past it as well?
What about my 20 GB of memes?
Just because you're tech savvy doesn't mean the whole world is.
Old men, running the world.
> Everything else is handled via smartphones.
Yeah, if you don't use your PC for more than vidya and internet, I guess that's true.
But generally, smartphones suck. Particulary in the storage area. There's also a lot of music/pictures/vidya-related stuff (mods, patches) and personal files that'd be a pain to get back otherwise. A cheap HDD that's sitting unplugged in the case is worth it.
Because hospitals are using windows XP since the machines they bought cost alot to update them one by one.
The average normalfag isn't affected by this but companies with tons of computers running archaic software will be affected.
>upgrade to our spyware!

My music/movie collection
My anime folder just got nuked what do I do?
It spreads automatically due to a leaked NSA exploit if you're running XP or Windows 7 without the latest security patches.
Really for 7 is the issue with the Windows Update agent where it got caught in a retarded fugue state even if you had automatic updates on due to the fact that MIcrosoft was too fucking stupid to release a Windows 7 SP2 that trimmed down the list of updates from thousands to hundreds.
Hospitals where I am are using Windows 10
Spotify+hulu/netflix/ect
>my fucking cloud service got infected with his shit
>all my files got encrypted
I fucking hate this shit
Yeah, rensenware was more of a joke than anything
>duh just don't click on shady stuff dumbass kek
Guaranteed retards who don't actually read up on this shit.
MS just recently patched an exploit for MSE that could be triggered by just receiving an email. You don't even need to open it or look at it. Not too long ago there was that vulnerability on steam pages, who the fuck is going to think "I better not click on this genuine steam link it might be a virus"? Even wannacry spreads by looking for open shares on the internet. You can't protect yourself by just not clicking on shady shit.
...
exception to the rule
>$0.02 windows have been deposited into your account
>even neurosuggesting streaming
It's like you like eating shit when steak is right there
Or maybe only in america they're still using XP
What cloud service can be this stupid?
It was the British Health Sector that went apeshit due to this not the American one faggot limey.
>the killswitch was to not blacklist the host domain but to ping it
shit's getting too complicated I swear
Most of the infections are Europoors
Is windows still being assholes and doing the whole "you want a windows 7 update? Too bad, here's your fucking "upgrade" to windows 10!" bullcrap?
>limey
as if
It depends on the group but tons of companies are still on Windows 7 (which was susceptible to automatic infection).
Vista was a bust due to driver issues/reputation/requirements.
7 was fine because it matured on the driver model and specs increased, plus patches.
8 was a trainwreck due to UI changes.
10 is still "too new" for a lot of companies.
XP is really only in enterprise where you have some archiac software that runs some $10,000+ machine that can't run above XP, generally.
The WannaCry trojan also autopropogated to machines running Windows Server 2008/2008 R2, which ends support in 2020.
>ATMs
>running windows at all
>windows XP no less
>0.00000006 bitcoin has been mined from your ancient unpatched windows 7 install that's vulnerable to fucking jpgs.
I think there's a list of updates on Sup Forums's wiki that tell you which updates you can download manually without triggering auto10 or retrofitting telemetry stuff
No. You only get the free Win10 upgrade if you have accessibility software and manually run a tool. Automatic updates have removed the win10 upgrade nag.
Windows embedded, normally.
And people say we're ready for automated driving cars
No, Windows 10 is a paid product now.
still safer than having you're mom actually controlling the car
Only sort of related but my computer has gotten way slower over the past month or two. Games I used to be able to run fine now regularly freeze and skip frames. Aside from the regular MAB scan and defrag, what else can I do to check/fix the problem? Drivers are up to date
