He prefers linear games to open world

>he prefers linear games to open world

...

Damn right you cunt. Enjoy your nothing.

Why are linear cucks so bitter? So you enjoy being trapped in the same storyline doing the exact things the writers say. Get over it.

That's actually one thing the mainstream has right, open world games are simply superior

>he prefers open world games to linear ones

I know right? They're all like: tell me what to do and where to go and how to think! Fucking immature retards should all be forced to live in North Korea! lol idiots lol

>he enjoys not being able to explore except the narrow path the game makers give him

What are some games that have an "open world"?
I mean like a large explorable area but not too large that it's overwhelming.

> He prefers empty shit like BotW instead

Deus Ex. All of them. But more like "open levels" rather than "open world." You will be finding new pathways and passages even into your fifth playthrough.

I was going to close this thread but now I have to tell you, you're a moron

There are problems with BotW, but being 'empty' is DEFINITELY not one. And I'm not just talking about the Korok seeds, there's TONS of meaningful shit to do spread all over the world. Being empty is one complaint you cannot level at that game.

Just think about narrative games

euro truck simulator 2

Look at his eyes, he's dead inside

You obviously haven't played the game.
It is so sparse LOL, there is literally fuck all to do

alright, closing thread

nigger

>he shitposts on a weeb image board
your life is a wild ride

Open world doesn't work with everything based retard bro.

Open world killed MGSV and We Happy Few would've probably been amazing if it were linear.

lol cuck

Nice argument there friend.

>play open world game 1
>kinda cool, have fun with it
>play open world game 2
>kinda cool, have fun with it but don't do all the side quests just the ones I feel are important
>play open world game 3
>can't even be fucked to spent 40 hours (20 of which being on useless fetch sidequests) and don't have much fun
>play open world game 4
>don't even do any side quests because it's all trash
>play open world game 5
>don't even finish the game because there's too much dumb collect quest shit
>play a linear game and have 15 hours of actual fun rather than 15 hours of boredom and 10 hours of fun

open world meme has to stop

That's an argument against poorly done open world not open world

>he prefers tedium filled empty space to actually curated and planned experiences with actual content

Guys, guys, guys-! Hear me out here...

What about... Branching linear games?

>he likes procedurally generated level designs

>he prefers actual gameplay over cinematic gameplay where the game holds your hand all the way through and forcefeeds you every detail

>implying all linear games do this
>footy

name 5 open world games that benefit from being open world, instead of just adding walking time between linear fetch quests

>replying to something that stupid
Why?

Why are you trying hard to make this pic into a meme by using it for different topics?

So Metroidvania?

Liking Nu Male's Buy aren't you?

Open world is actually just an infinite number of linear worlds

Well, yes, but also branching storylines. Not totally open, but still adaptive to choices the player makes, either in direction of exploration, or in conversation, or quests undertaken.

Many of those linear worlds are dull as dust though. A branching approach allows each to be tailored to actually be engaging.

Hubs are better than open world

Small enough to be designed and crafted, but open enough to not be linear

>So you enjoy being trapped in the same storyline doing the exact things the writers say.
You do that in open world games too.

>open world

Imagine if you had a children's sandbox, with toys and slides and stuff.
Now make that sandbox hundreds acres big, and make it so you have to walk several miles to get to a different toy or slide. This is how sandbox games play like.
But it certainly gets clueless normies impressed so they can look at repetitive foliage and buildings while they try to find the fun in the game.

>A branching approach allows each to be tailored to actually be engaging.
Name one game that actually does this
>Inb4 some Bethesda garbage

Open levels like in Deus Ex were a standard in all of the FPS games until Half Life 2.

don't know man, I'd rather have a good linear game than a bad open world game

Hub with linear paths are objectively the most efficient level designs.

Open world is just big phat nothing.

>good game is better than bad game
wow so deep

Fuck this I'm biting.

Fuck your open world OP.
What's wrong with 'linear' games? Tell me exactly?
Don't you like progression? Don't you like actual good stories? Don't you like well thought out puzzles/quests/whatever?
I don't think you realize what you actually mean with 'linear' games. Linear games aren't exactly like a small corridor where you just go through to the end without seing the siderooms.
You're saying all those old games like 2D mario, Sonic, OOT or any other old is bad?

You're literally saying reading any book is shit. Because a book also is linear and leads the reader in a wanted direction.

Fuck off you stupid open world memer.

race games tend to be very VERY linear

Bethesda stuff is open-world, that's exactly the thing I was saying does it wrong.

And sadly, none comes to mind, but a) I can't be the first person to have ever thought of this and b) doesn't that sound better than either a meaningless open world, or a by-the-numbers strictly linear game?

I guess it sounds cool in theory but most devs don't have the talent or budget to do something like that

...

most open world games have a messy and convoluted storyline

Yes i like that, because thats how a writer can really make a good story. by knowing how it will be understood by the player

MGSV is one of my favorite games of all time, I've spent almost 200 hours on it

I don't really have a preference, but I do enjoy the freedom of an open world game. The thing is though, if a linear game is designed well, fun, and packed with content, there's no problem.

That pretty low mileage for a GOAT game

>implying every game is either open-world or linear

San Andreas is one

Technically every game is by definition 'open-world' and 'linear' - it depends on the magnitude of the freedom you are allowed (and whether you enjoy it).

>muh open world meme
>muh linear trash

Open level with hubs will always be superior.
>able to have greater variety of areas
>able to focus and make sure exploration is fun in each level
>able to create shortcuts and use moves like platforming or whatever well to get through the level faster

If its a good design youll be coming back to the level to find new areas and more shit once you get farther, like metroid or 3d mario before galaxy. Shit most FPS back then knew what level design is.

What happened to games today?

Thats just my opinion though.

I don't like someone telling me where to go
Or what to do
Or who to be
Fuck you I'm a dragon

>haha you can't go there little cuck
>little cuck don't be silly those are guards, you can't hit them they'd kill you
>little cuck don't forget that cute girl you met at the beginning of the game? She's fucking the big black guy in the back of the helicopter you're flying. Make sure to land it smoothly, wouldn't wanT to stain your copter!

5 mmorpgs + the elder scrolls games? Think about a linear mmorpg. Kek

Are you okay?

Dead Rising?
