i forgot to work on it today

Work now

Eh. Not that well. Kinda hit an impasse I'm not sure how to get over.

I just started actually, I don't know how to draw/sprite, make music, make sfx, program, or anything useful, so I figured I'd try to get the hang of each one individually then do fangame in Gamemaker. I may not finish a game but if I become skilled enough to do my own IP, I will. If anyone wants to give me any pointers with spriting, or where to start with the other steps, I would really appreciate it.
They're all custom with a few references, except Kirby in profile which is an edit of a pre-existing sprite. His walking animation in profile will be custom though.

Oops, here's what I currently have.

Started getting the alternate costume systems in game.

Just go simple, if you need SFX go with... wait

slowly but steadily
tweaked shield visuals to reflect players' current sp amount and added new animations

finished this animation

bfxr.net for 8bit. So just make half page game plan and story and go. Nice sprites BDW

Thank you!

pretty cute sprites user, reminds me of superstar saga

and drew a couple of backgrounds

Well, I just finished my first game for my late mother in game maker so I'm trying to help new people but keep it simple.
Here is my game first and simple.

Reposting from the AGDG thread;

youtu.be/chWhPA3ZKAs

Almost finished with the first gameplay trailer, would love some feedback on it!

Not well as I have zero skills or knowledge how to learn some. It'd be the bomb if I did though.

Good job.

You are a god. Can learn that in 3 months?

There are a few ideas rattling around in the old noggin. If only I was competent enough to realize my vision. I fear that whatever I might end up doing might be too ambitious. I want to do something. I want to be in charge of something I'm proud of. I just don't know what, when, or how to start.

Just keep it simple. Don't make 1 make 3. Be G. Lucas

>guy has ideas but no skills and doesn't know where to start
can't wait to see where this epic tale leads

Head of Marketing or politics

Yes. That's exactly my problem. What's your point?

these were the first big, full-fledged backgrounds I ever drew user, so I'm sure you can get there too
if you look closely it's mostly just simple shapes and colors with some effects to make them look nicer
the trees in the bottom one for example, are just rectangles that I use photoshop's liquify on. same goes for the montains up top
the sun is just an orange circle with white glow inside, and a duplicate of it behind with gaussian blur
sky's just a gradient

overall just try looking for some references and color palettes that appeal to you, and don't take what I say for certain because I wouldn't even call myself really an artist, since I'm just doing these because our other artist vanished

your situation is so absolutely cliche it's not even worth posting about

Thank you, I had Superstar Saga in mind, I probably use its sprites as a reference.

It's my situation nonetheless. I was looking for advice on where to begin, a la

But you can't animate sprites like that or...?

should probably*

>boustrophedon.itch.io/konrad-the-rocket
it is going nicely

well, as long as you have the elements in different layers, you can save them separately and animate them in-engine, placing them however you want
those two bgs I showed are to be used in a quick intro cinematic so they aren't necessarily gonna be used in-game, but they could very well be

Youtube vid how to do it or something, pls?

Reworked shield behavior sometimes the asteroids would right through then when they are upside down

Just practicing my modeling

Still have to add particles

there's no secret to it
if you don't know how to use layers to begin with, then you need to learn the basics of whatever software you're using

Horribly. Designing UI is a nightmare but I don't want to keep that ugly prototype. The new cast bar is almost done

NEAT
Reminds me of that game Iwata played on Game Center CX, I think it was Balloon Flight.
Only thing I don't like from what I can see is that hovering in place seems way too easy but it's hard to tell without having played it.

maybe you should quit.

interesting concept
I think it would be a lot cooler if the asteroids gravitated towards the planet
dunno if it would screw up with the difficulty of the game, but I feel like it'd be more interesting

asprite

I'm just starting out.

But for one man it needs so much time. How to get better in pixel art if you suck at in art?

Simple. Get better at art first.

Go for it but 3d is hell. You need a team, and fuck this guy

then stop doing retarded shit like smoothed scenes and lightning crap and focus on baking, lowpoly and following blueprints. that's literally 99% of the shit you'll do, along with UV and making different kinds of textures.

t. "I use blender and it's pretty hard :DDDDD"

the only way to improve at art or animating is by practicing
you can read or watch as many tutorials as you want and it will definitely help you to learn some basic philosophies of whatever you're doing, but ultimately you're only gonna get better by doing it yourself, and doing it over and over again

Give me a bit of time to actually get accustomed to modeling before expecting high quality

Game I'm working on.

While lost in the woods searching for her brother, Your character Amy accidents herself. And on the brink of death, she meets a dark figure that gives her the chance to sell her life in order to save it. She accepts the deal, and becomes a part of the Ross Hotel, a mysterious inn deep within the woods. One day she has a change of heart and decides to escape.

It's ghibli meets silent hill.

I don't know anymore.

RedRover-Rover /ic/ I tried but shit with my health happen. I worked on my perspective and Villpu. You can't work and do art.

Reduce the number of asteroids that spawn and make them gravitate towards the planet.

Test animation

it's quality, it's just what you need to do with it. that's like studying metallurgy if you want to become a car mechanic. sure it's general knowledge but it's not helping with anything right now, and when you will need it, what you're studying right now won't be enough at all. learn a single thing before rushing in, fuckface.

about done with all npcs.

is that nicholas cage's mother?

Nice Bad Dragon Red

Yes

T H I C C

Well, I have the first game. I don't think it looks bad but second one must be better.

I would fap on this.... so go full Sup Forums

I actually had a dream of making a proper game, but I guess I'll have to go patreon porn in the end like everyone else to survive
Fuck this gay earth.

Fellow musicbro here, if you ever need music I'd be happy to help

I'm trying to make a SHMUP touhou style in Unity. Is there an easy way to make the enemy movement patterns other than following algebraic curves? Because it's a pain to do it that way.

Its... going. I'm developing like, an hour or so a day, on a Surface, and every second of it is pain.

algebraic curves ARE the easy way

Got any samples?

>when you learn about a function in your language of choice that would have saved you loads of trouble earlier

I can't wait to fap on your game and not pay you a cent. Go for it for /t/

W-well, as long as you like it

I'm just trying to find purpose in life, man

Fuck. I'll keep it up then.

Story of my life.

>Write huge function to do the thing I want
>Think its pretty clever
>Spend a week making it all work right and efficiently
>So proud I show friend
>He immediately tells me a function does that already

I would pay to see trap indy who is ds his boy pussy while programming. NO HOMO

Made a fish that can work like the ones in subnautica so the head as the AI and the rest of the body is just joints to simulates a moving snake like body. Also imported tentacles from the project in the webm which use a similar system

...tell us about this function.

I fucking hate this.

Looks pretty cool user, the bosses look really fun.

...

I went years in GM without noticing you can ctrl-rightclick an object in a room to set its creation code. Much better than duplicating 20 of the same object with one number changed.

I'm sorry about your mother, user.

Mathf.LerpAngle

I got menu scrollbars and customizable crosshairs last week.

Working on tileset to complete a demo for pixelheaven fest coming week.

I've never been on a fucking plane before, seems scary as shit.

Your art looks cute, good stuff. Planes are fun at best and uneventful at worst, just don't take a window seat if you're too freaked out, or pull the little curtain down.

No just /gif/

I do, some old stuff here:

Thank you. She thought this was magic. She died from multiple cancers.

Which one of you made this?

Thanks. Yeah I did get a window seat to just get it over with kinda, might as well get used to the situation. Makes no sense to think about it even, I drive daily and the amount of almost-accidents happen all the time.

You managed to make me tear up.
>tfw both parents won't stop smoking and the coughs get worse

Why do you keep asking me everyday? I DON'T HAVE A FUCKING GAME! IT'S NOT WORTH IT!

Well, my mother didn't smoke. But she worked like horse. She was a teacher the kids and me, and my friend and my mom.
R.I.P.

bump

I want to say Hopoo but I'm not sure.

Restarted an old project, first time in a half a year I've worked on anything. Made a sprite for the main character and it was the first time I've ever liked any artistic endeavor I've ever done.

The problem I have is that I felt like this was some huge accomplishment, so now I'm shitting around on Sup Forums and playing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. But its not a huge accomplishment at all. Its one, unanimated sprite for a Gamemaker game that I only have a year-old bare bones platforming code and one year-old piece of music I did with soundfonts in FL Studio. I shouldn't feel accomplished that this is what I've done in a years time, its not even 1% of the final product of a small-scope game.

it's a huge accomplishment because you spent most of your time not working on it.
just force yourself to spend more time on it faggot

not a person related to this conversation but damn that kirby remix is great

Thanks!

Don't really like it. From what I've seen of the other stuff you've showed, this seems like it belongs in a different game.
