The official reason was that, if given the green tunic early on, a lot of players wouldn't want to switch from it and use other clothes.
Which is why you can still get them but it requires beating all shrines first.

What's wrong with it? It's the classic tunic adapted to match the BotW style. It looks better on him than any of the amiibo tunics

The game is literally overall less memorable to me now because you didn't get the Green tunic near the beginning. Kinda reminds me of DmC where you get the white hair at the end.

BotW Link has a better design than normal Link and anybody using the various link tunics i n the game instead of the cool new armor is a change resistant autist.

The Champions all had "matching outfits" and I guess they didn't think Zelda would look good in green

But it never quite does because his face doesn't look quite like those other Links. Wind Waker is my favorite Link design but the outfit looks wrong here. The Wild Tunic is the one designed just for him

I just love how the Skyward Sword tunic looks more suitable for adventuring, especially with that chainmail.

Because you're immersed i bright green 90% of the time so they figured it would've been better to distinguish the character's main outfit more from the scenery. And the colour is more neutral which helps considering the entire main cast has to wear it

The Wild set has no relation to amiibo.
