second-timers need not reply
I put 600 hours into the first game, looking to get another 600 more in the second.
So you'll have 1200 hours on Destiny then
>expansion sold as a sequel
Loving
Every
Laugh
>another 600 more
But user, it's the same game repackaged with a 2 on it and a very tiny expansion, you'll at best get maybe 20 more hours from the 1 new Raid and few new patrol areas.
Yup.
>kind of want to play destiny 2
>only own an original PS4
>don't have the money to upgrade my PC to make it run better than on PS4
I guess I should be glad they are excluding me. Games a money trap anyway.
You know, honestly i'm pretty sad about it. There were so many things to improve on and.... they just made the same game all over again.
Is that how you look at WoW, Star Wars, EVE, Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy... Honestly this list could go on and on and on.
But you'll just go "REEEEEE" in response.
How the fuck is Destiny a MMO? There are no persistent world servers. Everything is 100% instanced. It's like calling Borderlands a MMO.
>played the first, beat the campaign, was disappointing
>picked it up about a year later, realized that playing with friends is what made the game fun, and binge-played it for about 4 months
>havent really touched it since, save for the occasional strike with friends
>will probably buy and play the shit out of D2 more for my friends and the fun times with them, than buying the game for the story like I did with the first one.
Yeah, it pretty much looks the same as the first, with a little extra polish. My hope is that D2 will have more linear, or at least more story content, not a series of random events that can be beat from start to finish in three hours.
All I really want, above all else, is cross platform between PC and xbox. I know its probably not gonna happen, but if it did, I'd happily take the likely-required hit to use a controller on my PC, if just so I could play with my friends on consoles.
So Guild Wars is not an MMO, Neverwinter Online, Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy 11, Final Fantasy 14, WildStar.
None of those are MMOS?
I liked the first one.
Can finally play the 2nd with my IRL friends instead of /vg/ because they're all PCfats.
Should be fun.
Sorry you forgot the meaning of the word OP... :')
Can someone explain to me the appeal of Destiny? I tried to get it on PS3 but my wouldn't let me because it failed to install a fucking 10gb update, now that I have a PS4 and a decent PC what is it about this game that kept people for playing for so long? I heard the storymode lasted only 10 hours and there were loads of cut content. Plus no Marty to do the soundtrack in Destiny 2 which is a shame
>Game gives you 600+ rounds of ammo for your guns and drops ammo in excess due to the high number of bullet spongy enemies everywhere
>They don't think to just give you infinite ammo for your primary/secondary to remove the clutter and make Special Weapon ammo more precious
WoW has expansions that are 40$ and all raids and dungeons that are added, are added in free.
Final Fantasy (non-mmo) are all completely different games from its latest predecessor
I'm probably gonna be playing it, but I'm gonna be buying the game with WoW gold, so it won't really cost me anything. If the game sucks, ah well. I lost virtual currency with no real value.
MMO is a buzzword that sells games, of course they're gonna latch onto it if they can. Guild Wars did the same thing, and numerous other games as well.
It's like if Halo and WoW had a baby.
Besides, salvatori has stepped up and he's pretty damn good too.
>all raids are added
>are added in free
>15 dollars a month requirement at the time
>40 dollar fee every 3 months to get the new raids, gear and levels
They all rely on the exact same character arches, and also use the exact same magical/summon system in all of them. Many of them even share the exact same world themes.
>Is that how you look at WoW, Star Wars, EVE, Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy...
What? I don't see a "WoW 2" anywhere.
This game seems to tick all the right boxes it's going to be on PC which is where FPS games shines:
-First person with KBM
-Multiplayer for those who love competative gameplay.
-Loot.
-Raids for those who want gear that requires a little more effort to obtain so they can standout.
-Character creation (The waifu factor)
Why does Sup Forums pretend to hate the things they like?
>destiny 2
>now without helmets so we can sell cosmetic face DLC
I, for one, am glad that the false information of "Destiny is an MMO" is being spread again.
I like the community alot, and I can only imagine that it's mostly because tons of people bought into it expecting an MMO, were wrong, and got pissed. Then there were all those memes getting spread around about how shitty Destiny is and that deterred even more people from trying something because they expected something out of it.
I went into Destiny expecting some genre of FPS and Co-op, and got something amazing out of it. I rarely meet shitters and griefers, and most people were very willing to help me out with whatever shortcomings I had. It reminded of the community vanilla WoW had; supportive and passionate.
I hope Destiny 2 doesn't bring in too many faggots, and that the experience stays true. I'd recommend that you don't buy this game, because there's a good chance I never want to play with you.
You don't see
>Burning
>Catalyst
>Wrath
>Mists
>Warlords
>Legion
It's a game made for casuals, what would you expect?
None of those have a 2 on it.
>tfw going into VoG raid blind for the first time
Best feeling in the game.
FInal Fantasy 11 and 14 are MMOs because they have persistent worlds. Weather, notorious monster hunts, gathering nodes, and more continue to cycle and move around the world even if 0 players are currently present in the zone.
Guild Wars and Phantasy Star Online don't have these persistent worlds. Everything is instanced to a hub. If 0 players are in a forest group in PSO, the place ceases to exist. No monsters spawn or move, traps aren't generated, nothing is there.
I can spell the number two with the letters from there names
Checkmate atheists.
>Can someone explain to me the appeal of Destiny?
Halo singleplayer/coop gameplay, complete with slow as fuck movement speed, sloppy console thumbstick aiming, egregious turn acceleration and snap-to autoaim.
>11 and 14 have persistant worlds
No they don't, they are both instanced based worlds with loads screens...
Weather in 14 is also client side not server side.
I thought launch Destiny was a near-perfect product and I've been less and less interested as they've changed things about it and made concessions and compromises.
It is like monster hunter. We play the same game over again with few additions.
Expansions in WoW are 2 years apart, sometimes 3. but you're right about the 15$ a month tag on it as well. Didn't think about it that way.
However, the earlier FF's were very similar gameplay, I admit that. FFX broke away from the ATB system, then every version after that had a different battle system at least.
>Thunderfury
>lvl 25
>every version after X
It all turned into FF11 combat after that with a bit of action added on. Outside of 13 which was single hero ATB with fancy animations.
It's gonna be cool
PvP is what kept destiny alive in between expansions, and it seems they're trying to go for a more 'competitive' style this time
Make no mistake though, the first few weeks, where no one has any idea what secrets there are and going blind to a raid for the first time, is something magical that unfortunately happens once every 4-6 months with this game
How can the world zones be instanced if everyone sees the same thing whether they enter or leave the area? That couerl boss fate in churning mists will still move around and react to mobs and players regardless of you or anyone being there or not.
Also you're retweeed, weather is server side. Everyone sees the same day and night cycle and weather effects. Fishing in FF14 is highly dependent on the weather and there's a forecast NPC that tells everyone the same upcoming cycles
I always wanted to have Destiny on PC so i think it's good this time.
If I remember correctly, we actually made it all the way to the final boss atheon in our first run before we called it quits.
All defender spec titans really helped out.
Had a blast.
I hope they don't less us down with patrols. There is a lot of potential for planets to have the same sense of mystery and discovery that raids have. The dreadnaught of TTK gives me hope.
>Weather in 14 is also client side
Odin fate proves you wrong. Everyone on the server sees the same tension weather when he appears in the zone on your server.
I like the difficulty in the secret too
I was awake when the black spindle thing happened. Fucking dope
And the paradox secret ending was one of the best missions in the game for me
They know these are fan.favorites. I expect a few more of those for D2
It's actually not even just server-side, it's cluster-side; if you have rare weather (raining sunset in Ul'dah, etc) you can confirm this from a dungeon that's in the appropriate zone.
you could disable helmets in social spaces in 1
Those two events are exactly what they need to do. I don't just want bushes covering a path to chest. And if finding the secret is easy, then have the player earn whatever the reward is through a tough fight. I mean they could just block off areas with extremely powerful enemies so you can come back after the campaign or spend time trying to sneak in. I just want fun stuff to do other than run strikes and raids.
only have 2 friends and we cant be bothered to use stupid 3rd party lfg sites to do something that should part of the game
feelsbadman
I probably will.
I like MMOs and I like the shooting from Destiny 1.
No regrets, Destiny 1 had many many fun hours. Doing the new raid on the first night with no guides, and four random fuckwits on /vg/, was one of the best things ever.
...
vanilla was shit taken king massively improves things
I hope they make it better, I want to give it a chance but I would enjoy if they would let me try it before wasting 60 bucks.
So I've been told, repeatedly. It has not changed my opinion.
i don't know why ANYONE ever claims destiny was an MMO. battlefield 4 on ps4 had twice as many people in a server.
Garry's mod, Minecraft, and Just Cause 2 multiplayer can have more than 100 people on one server playing at the same time. Yet you don't see people calling those games MMOs.
>it seems they're trying to go for a more 'competitive' style this time
forcing 4v4 but no 6v6 is retarded
fire teams are 3 people, team up with another fire team and its a 6 player team. Now you have to get a +1
if people want autistic competitive play, let them have it, but there's no reason to scrap the larger game style.
this is especially true since the whole game has been retooled with new weapons and abilities, so it doesn't matter if people liked 4v4 in destiny 1, it might not be applicable in destiny 2
>grinding dungeons
>doing raid
>gear progression at level cap
MMO means more than the sum of its words.
you do the same thing in Path of Exile and Diablo clones yet you don't see people calling them MMOs.
I didn't play PoE end game, but most diablo clones (and diablo) have random loot instead of a tiered loot system. It feels structurally different to a WoW style raid.
It's probably because action RPG describes PoE better though. If the camera was third person over the shoulder, and you moved via WASD, PoE probably WOULD be called an MMO. Destiny has the 'title' because they need a description for how the end game functions.
I like how Salvatori makes it sound like Halo 2 music
The whole game could have been another expansion unless there are backend improvements we don't know about. And I don't like the 4v4 pvp. 5v5 would have been cool though.
>this is fact somehow
Why are you like this? You'll enjoy life more if you give things a chance.
>LITERALLY the same game
>new UI
>$120
The most fun I've ever had in video games was teaming up with a Swede, an Irish, 2 Brits, a German and myself an Australian, and working towards getting the Flawless Raider trophy in year 1 in Vault of Glass.
Nothing has ever topped that feeling.
Going to the Lighthouse legitimately in the first week Trials was a thing was pretty nice too. But Trials became absolute cancer, and destroyed much of the game.
PC gamers who play other FPS are going to be in for a surprise when they realize how slow walking and gameplay is in Destiny 2. Even 60fps is going to help the slow walking of a Bungie game.
I'm still excited to play this on consoles. I hope Bungie allows 60fps on consoles for raids and story content. I'd buy a Scorpio or PS4Pro just for that.
Bungie stabbing in the back their corebase of console players just to go and suck pkeks cock by giving them an infinite superior version of the game. IM SO FUCKING MAD RIGHT NOW I'M CANCELLING MY PREORDER
at least I have the best exclusives this generation so Destiny and Bungie can go fuck themselves
>tfw base PS4 console user.
I'm going to make the jump to PC instead of upgrading to pro. And then join the idort Master race.
