Beck's design is such garbage.
Comcept is too busy trying to hide from people asking about Kickstarter mech and the 3DS/Vita ports to say no
>yfw there will never be a 2.5d megaman game that is actually good
Why though? You could make up your own original character design and attract more people.
wasn't maverick hunter X 2.5D?
>Beck's design is such garbage.
It is. There's too much going on, too much details, and it's still too derivative of Mega Man.
Rockman/MegaMan has such a simple clean design, evoking Toku characters.
There should be some rule: if you make a mascot character, you have to design them as pixel art for a Famicom first. Everything has to be readable as that sprite. That allows it to keep it simple and not have all that stupid shit.
this seriously is going to hurt this game's appeal.
>detail is stupid
>Sup Forums wonders why it isn't taken seriously
Because MN9 was supposed to be THE SAVIOR OF MEGA MAN THAT WILL REVIVE THE SERIES TO NEW FOUND GLORY UNDER THE CAIRING GUIDANCE OF THE CREATOR KEIJI INAFUNE.
Flash forward just a few years: the series is a joke, and Comcept is giving its characters out for free.
This is literally the best thing that Comcept could do with the character. Paying people to use the character in games would just make it look like a cheap way to garner popularity. Actually trying to charge for his use would cause people to drop the game. MNo9 is so unpopular that any sort of positive light the new game might have will only be a benefit.
>>detail is stupid
For a MASCOT character, yeah. Look at Sonic, Mario, or Shovel Knight.
Simple IS better.
There's a tendency to just keep adding more and more detail and useless shit to a character. Very common in anime.
Yeah but where's Ekoro or whatever her name is, doesn't that finish the trinity or whatever
>Because of this exact pattern I know it's only a matter of time until Beck is announced for Blaster Master
You know they didn't say it right out of the gate because people would flip their shit
>Following the release of the game, Keiji Inafune stated: "You know, I want to word this in a way to explain some of the issues that come with trying to make a game of this size on multiple platforms." adding "I'm kind of loath to say this because it's going to sound like an excuse and I don't want to make any excuses. I own all the problems that came with this game and if you want to hurl insults at me, it's totally my fault. I'm the key creator. I will own that responsibility."[7][8] His translator Ben Judd followed up these remarks by giving his assessment of the project: "In this case, it was do the base game and do all the ports all at the same time. And it ended up being a huge amount of work, more than they actually estimated. Definitely, when they looked at the project, they were wrong about a lot of things. They underestimated how much work, time and money was going to be necessary. All of those things create a huge amount of pressure."[7] Later he said “But, again, we can hope that if things go well, there'll be sequels. Because I'll tell you what, I'm not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it's not perfect, it's better than nothing. At least, that's my opinion.”[9]
In 2017, Comcept allowed Inti Creates to use the Mighty Number 9 characters however they wished, free of charge, in the game Mighty Gunvolt Burst for the Nintendo Switch.[10]
It's true faggot
It absolutely is if you want a character to be easily recognizable from far away
Literally a scam to get money to develop games and hire a cheap third party company to shit up hot garbage on a budget for you
>ghost_posing_with_a_stillborn.png
She's probably unlockable or dlc. The character select screen has a lot of extra space for more characters.
It most certainly is, especially for more cartoonist characters.
>if you make a mascot character, you have to design them as pixel art for a Famicom first. Everything has to be readable as that sprite
He says posting a character that is four separate sprites.
Theses fanartists probably regret drawing Beck.
Inafune is not a scam artist. He is just incredibly inept at handling projects. He ran out of money, and now is unable to fulfill the KS merchandise.
Probably hiring an experienced director would have been better than wasting all that money on marketing stunts.
>Inafune is not a scam artist.
He over inflates his credentials and rides the "creator of mega man" fame for his entire career.
He's a scam artist.
Inafune knows english?
>I'm the game creator Keji Inafune (list of titles he's worked on)
HOLY SHIT user, good job you were there to catch him falsely labelling himself the creator of megaman, you fucking idiot. Inafune has been called the father of megaman more than he's ever called himself that. There are hundreds of legitimate reasons to shit on him, but not correcting kotaku shitheads who write an article about him he doesn't even probably read in a language he doesn't understand is not one of them.
Fuck, it really is summer in here. What's the matter, did you drop money on the mighty kickstarter? Did you just want an easy target to shit on to make you feel better? Or are you hoping to divert this all onto that stupid community manager bitch that is more responsible for the game being shit game than inafune?
>Inafune dindu nuttin. He has no idea what his agent/translator Ben Judd or the rest of his team is saying on behalf. He's an innocent victim!
Are you under impression that I was defending him? I literally called him incompetent.
Everything on there is true, but it's misleading. Calling himself a "game creator" is a vague term. He gets over hyped as hell and people fall for it. He should just say he's a producer/artist which is correct. It's more modest. However:
>Hi, I made some promotional art, and made a few character designs (Zero, and everyone's favorite Auto), worked as a producer with directors to create games, and then a higher up managerial role at Capcom.
"The Creator of Auto" doesn't really fire people up though. Inafune's mostly worked as upper management and his contributions to the Mega man series are significant, but he's only one of many people who made contributions. He fully takes credit (either overtly, or covertly by never mentioning anyone else's contributions) for games he was only producer for.
Did that artist just trace the Sm4sh Megaman render?
>naggro
There's a reason that "Keep it simple, stupid" is a mantra among designers.
Copied yes, traced, no.
>There's a reason that "Keep it simple, stupid" is a mantra among designers.
I don't know much about how things worked with Mega Man, but in some cases the artists very much were key developers. In the 90s Capcom fighting games for example, the graphics team of each game essentially created everything about the characters, including stuff like their movesets and animations, things which actually matter to the gameplay.
I'm still mad the pizzacutter sword isn't actually in-game
This image never fails to throw out my sides.
They even said in an interview Beck and Gunvolt weren't the only playable characters, so unless the stuff the cast with Ray and Copen she's got a good shot.
Though they could also through in SOPHIA III for all I know.
X8 was okay.
>I'm still mad the pizzacutter sword isn't actually in-game
It's the Judge Sword. Why the art depicts marche and the guy from 2 wielding it, no idea. But Judges wield them.
X8 was mediocre as fuck. People only say it's good because it followed X5, X6 and X7.
I hope Jason gets added to the Beck/Gunvolt/Ekoro trio. He's pretty fucking cool.
>tfw Inti actually responded to the criticism that you could wave beam everything to death and made Destroyer mode, which is fucking awesome
>Resident Evil
BRB having a fucking stroke.
Why do people even give him the SLIGHTEST amount of credit for the series when he barely worked on 2, 4's PS2 port, and 5?
WHY DO PEOPLE NOT CARE WHO TOKURO FUJIWARA AND YOSHIKI OKAMOTO ARE?
Oh, while we're at it. Okamoto made Onimusha too, along with Jun Takeuchi directing.
That's actually a basic principle of graphic design: if a logo is not recognizable in a small format at first glance then it's not a good design. Mascots are basically logos.
>Jason gets in
>dies whenever he falls further than he can jump
The other thing I never liked about Beck is that he always looked like a smug little fuck.
It's like the character designers knew what was going to happen in the future.
>All that time I spent beating Destroyer mode and they didn't have the goddamn courtesy to put Eve in her underwear or some shit
Whatever man
Bee armor for life
>He's pretty fucking cool.
That he is.
Also I need to give Destroyer mode a try after I finish my Gunvolt playthrough. Some of the endgame dungeons were pretty hard normally, so destroyer is gonna kick my ass.
>The other thing I never liked about Beck is that he always looked like a smug little fuck.
Like father like, son.
Just gonna warn you now, the only thing you get is the satisfaction of beating it. But goddamn, did it feel good.
Oh shit they actually added in more difficulty for the game? I always felt it was too easy.
>Hey Mighty Gunvolt was pretty fun because you could play it like a standard Mega Man game.
>Oh but that's too similar to Mega Man gameplay though, and surely nobody wants that. We need to make the player get up close to finish them off like Mighty No 9 did!
>BRB having a fucking stroke.
These con bios are full of spin. Typically written by agents to hype up the person with half-truths. They never lie, typically but it's quite misleading.
Inafune just was producer for RE:Director's Cut, RE4 port and minor shit like that. Ie he hired the team and was manager for the ports or re-releases. ie basically nothing. But "technically" it's true that he helped bring those series to the masses. It's just that his contribution was minor.
Also bonus: A gamestop page saying Inafune created Metroid Prime.
>The other thing I never liked about Beck is that he always looked like a smug little fuck.
You've been out of the loop, friend. Come on back to the game.
>Enemies can only be killed by certain weapons, INCLUDING subweapons, so you can't wave beam everything to death
>Pink nuggets or whatever drop more because of this
>Every enemy fires a kamikaze shot on death you need to be ready to dodge
>Life-ups do nothing
>Trades in the Sophia's/Jason's red and white armor for sickass black/yellow armor
Blaster Master went from "7/10 it's ok" to HOLY SHIT NOW THIS IS THE GAME I REMEMBER with that update.
I'm still thinking the class NES sprites are gonna be the last DLC character, and I don't remember if I said it in this thread or another but I fucking know Beck is on the way considering the whole Gunvlot/Ekoro thing.
I'm mad we'll never get an A3
Oh my fuck this is perfect.
I seriously liked the game even when it was on mondo easy mode.
Reminder that anyone who paid for the 3DS version got nothing.
>I'm mad we'll never get an A3
A2 bombed. I wonder why.
I still think Square should have kept Matsuno as writer/director and made serious storylines/plots instead of the consequence free Whimsical land of fairy bullshit.
Most late DS games bombed because of the R4.
Mighty Gunvolt was not fun at all.
>Keiji Inafune, the maker of Metroid Prime
Holy shit, I've seen it all
Any day now.
It was more fun than Mighty No 9 and Azure Striker Gunvolt were, at least.
It was also free for a the first month.
Beck is beyond goddamn terrible in Mighty Gunvolt though.
I feel bad for Matsuno. He's likely struggling for money, so he'd take any job he can find.
Satisfaction is more than enough for me.
I was not aware it was this intense, I loved the game already holy fuck I need to play this. I barely used subweapons so an incentive to use them would be good.
This is gonna be fucking good
More fun than Mighty No. 9? Yeah.
More fun than Azure Striker Gunvolt? No.
It was free with purchase of ASG. I agree that Beck was awful in Mighty Gunvolt. Gunvolt was only slightly better because he could double jump, but the hold Y and stand still to electric was awful.
>tfw both of those were me
>Pink nuggets or whatever drop more because of this
Did we play the same game? Enemies gave me jack shit for item pick ups in Destroyer mode and 95% of everything I would get was from set spawn points in breakable rocks.
Also, they let enemies in the top down mode shoot through walls which they couldn't in the standard difficulty.
I genuinely don't know how the rocks worked.
Either I got gud or just overhyped the nuggets I did find.
Actually, Keiji Inafune himself doesn't claim to be the sole creator of Mega Man, when Kitamura is the closest to that title (shmuplations.com
However, the fanbase popularized the idea that he's the father of Mega Man, and it has stuck ever since.
>Also, they let enemies in the top down mode shoot through walls
Jesus Christ how horrifying
>Actually, Keiji Inafune himself doesn't claim to be the sole creator of Mega Man,
>Also, they let enemies in the top down mode shoot through walls
Fuck I actually have to dodge now
That's probably the only source where I've seen him be that blunt about it, and I'm not good enough at Japanese to check the accuracy of the translation for myself.
Yeah, you could go back into areas, break the rocks, and get the exact same pick ups every time. Enemies were really fucking stingy for drops for me though. I would go through whole top down sections and maybe get one drop from them. I think they also removed large drops at least for health.
At least the enemies in the top down sections don't have death shots like in the sidecrolling sections.
However, almost every enemy in the game has four times as much health as they do in the standard difficulty.
He did until rather recently. Or just sorta tiptoed around it all.
Watch the Icons episode about Mega Man.
NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF EITHER
1. Akira Kitamura
2. Tokuro Fujiwara, who produced every Mega Man up to X3.
The western press has been calling him the father of Mega Man for years. He just never strongly opposed that.
A literal translation would be "Hi, I'm Keji Inafune. Mega Man creator". He literally says "creator", as in the English word, not a Japanese term.
The generous explanation is that he's using "creator" in the looser, Japanese style, where its meant for "developer". Like you'd show a picture of the entire staff for a game, and they'd say "look at the game's creators".
Thing is though, Inafune HAS to know that this misconception exists, so he shouldn't be so sloppy about his use of terminology since that only just confuses people.
>NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF EITHER
Not a single mention of anyone else, period. It's Inafune's stance to never name anyone else. The most he'll get is a vague "mentor", which publications have to translate for him and figure out who he's talking about.
He's not lying. But by mentioning ONLY himself and his contributions, it gives the false impression he did everything of note. People fill in the blanks. He's a sneaky little Nip.
Reminder that MN9's mere presence will cause sales to tank so hard they'd have been better off just paying Capcom to use the real Mega Man.
Yeah, Keiji's stepped in more with games like X5, after which point I believe the popular perception of his role in the series started.
I suppose regardless who you are, it's easier to go with the flow than become Richard Stallman.
Inafune became the spokesperson for the series when he became producer in the mid-90's. That led to people associating him with the series. And since he'd been around since the first game, and he's credited as "character designer" in 1, they assumed he designed the character. And since the series has the same name as the character, people thought "creator of mega man" meant he's the series creator. And since then it's repeated and repeated by know nothings.
>Fujiwara
Reminder that he cock blocked Kitamura from making MM2 and Kitamura had to go over his head and appeal to Capcom Vice-President to get it made. And Fujiwara left for his own reasons which led to Inafune being promoted in his old job. If Fujiwara hadn't left Inafune might be just another old artist/designer at Capcom and not the "man, the myth, the legend" he became.
Capcom in the 80s must have been a wild place to work at.
Fujiwara eventually returned to Capcom briefly anyway, and I'm glad he did. BCR and UGnG were both fantastic.
He retired though, right? I haven't seen him work on a single game since MadWorld.
>BCR and UGnG were both fantastic.
Capcom needs to put a lot of those old PSP games on consoles and Steam. The MMX and MM1 remakes would make a nice bundle.
Unrelated to those, but just today I thought I'd really like to see Viewtiful Joe rereleased.
BCR is on Steam thankfully.

Dropped.

>Beck is a robot created by Dr. White who has the ability to think and feel. His ability to absorb Xel from robots and learn their abilities has been disabled during his virtual reality training session, so he no longer has access to those abilities while stuck in this virtual world. His only weapon is a new armament entrusted to him by Dr. White.
w-what does that mean?
They made up an excuse to make Beck not play like shit like he does in his own game.
Because Megaman never uses his powers in the sequels. It's just as cool when Beck does it right?
The Burst thing is just for starting combos for extra points, also this:
so there's chance for call to appear in better games
>tfw no call E gf
What a waste.
