Lost all hope for EOV, but then again Sega made us wait on Yakuza 5 for a couple of years too. A Switch game would probably just have a map screen of smartphone/tablet app. Or they include pen and paper with the game.

I seriously doubt there will be another main etrian game especially on the switch. A spiritual successor? Sure, but lacking the map features is hard to ignore

I'm currently new to the series and am having a blast with my current set up in EO4. Using Fortress, Landsknecht, Dancer / Sniper and Medic.

Just beat the Hollow Queen in the second main dungeon, will I unlock anything new soon? (Airship height, classes, etc)

I'm the only one that hates all the 6th statums? Just in terms of design and music, they always look and sound extremely bad.

I never did any of those. I hoped I would in EOV when it comes out in the west, but it never did.

Yeh, you are going to get the Arcanist which is probably my favourite class in terms of gameplay. Hope it is the returning class for EOU3.

Wouldn't mind if they just dropped the map drawing and used Etrian to just make DRPGs.

Works amazingly for plenty of other games.

Fucking sucks. NISA would rather localize overpriced doujin trash than their good IPs.
It makes no fucking sense either, Demon Gaze sold pretty well and while Coven would be a bit of a risk I feel like Harada's art alone would already give them a decent enough demographic if they advertised it right.

At least we'll hopefully get DT2-2 at some point, they haven't said anything about that either but I have much higher hopes for that then the NIS titles.

You can have up to 40 party members at once actually.
You have 5 squads you control, "covens", and each of them can have up to 3 frontline and 5 backline characters. It's a really neat system.

It works a bit like the rooms in Soul Nomad if you played that, they obviously took heavy inspiration from it. You don't actually controll that many characters but just their squads, oftentimes going with the 3 front 5 in the back option is the worst thing you can do, there are set ups like having a single frontliner that tanks and deals huge hits because he's supported by 3 backline healers and buffers for example.

Coven is pretty much Witch and the Hundred Knight x Soul Nomad x Dungeon Crawler goodness. It's dark as fuck and half the characters come across as sadistic psychopaths at first, but it has one of the best stories NIS has ever done

Respec'ing is basically free in the Untold games though, you only lose 2 levels from Resting. I'd be really surprised if there was a combination of classes that just straight up isn't able to beat the superbosses, much less "just" the final boss

Fair enough. However, my other issue is that I don't want to use the story party, but they have story-locked content (at least 1 does, if I recall correctly). Also, weren't bosses in 2U balanced around the main boy? That was also a pain for my custom party.

I haven't played U2, but EOU has one story exclusive side dungeon, yeah. Kinda sucks, but what can you do.
More incentive to replay it at some point if you want to play Classic first I guess.

In U2 nothing is locked out of classic but the story MC class. Also yes, boss HP is bloated but so is outgoing PC damage as well, across the board. You can definitely reach and exceed Fafnir-levels of damage with other classes/setups.

EO4 is a great entry point in terms of EO, if that's the case. Just have a Protector and a Medic in your party for defense and healing and be sure to always stock up on Ariadne Thread.

Get at least one healer. Being able to bind the ennemy is also great. Don't hesitate to look up what is the meta to get a good idea of an effective party, then mix and match to create yoyr own party.

Subclassing makes the game broken anyway

Play it mostly blind, check what skills do if you must. It's actually a really simple game and discovering what classes work well with others is part of the fun.

Because it's on the Vita. Probably doesn't help that it's a complicated dungeon crawler and not just a mash X JRPG with doe eyed moeblobs either.
About the only thing you can hope for is for it to get a PC port at some point, but the chances of that are slim to none.

It's a fucking FuRyu game. It's not subpar, it's near shit. And it doesn't help the case when the hired developer, Aquria used icons from SAO games on it because of the tight budget.

They've been localizing pretty much all their other games though. The Operation Abyss games aren't exactly that much more mainstream and we even ended up getting ClaDun Sengoku, which people thought we'd never see. I really don't understand why they are skipping Coven in particular.
