I did to play burned games.

Though this was 2 years ago and every disc I tried many gmes had no music and the fmvs were stuttering yet my normal discs worked fine.

I just use a ps2 + pops loader now anyways.

>tfw you lost the book

good, if you ever cheated in a game it just means you're trash at them.

You're now aware that 99% of the anons here never used one of these.

i used the game genie

I'm 33 and everyone here seems retarded and terrible. I rarely browse Sup Forums anymore so I guess I'm moving on.

...

I had two different ones. A gameshark and a pro action replay for my PS1. PAR came with a spring to help play import titles if you didn't have your PS1 chipped.

Gameshark gave me tons of replay value on my games. So much cool shit you could do, and mess with the game. Since it wasn't a cart, there wasn't really any fear of fucking anything up except a file save (easy to copy/replace)

Are games too complicated now for gamesharks, or is it mostly legal reasons they don't make new ones?

I have a hong kong knockoff that I use to play burned games.

I had one that let me play Japanese games on ps1. Yeah I'm old.

I had one as a kid

Mainly used it for infinite/max money in JRPG's. Sometimes for quick lvl up if the grinding was tedious.

You're right. I never owned a Playstation.

All the fucking mexicans in school would use these for multiplayer GBA games and it would really piss me the fuck off.

Especially when it came to MMBN

Consoles are too locked-down for anything like a Gameshark to exist nowadays. It would just be patched out right away.

Ahhh the maganizes...

I unlocked sephiroth in FF7.

He sucked though, was limited to auto-attacking like in Cloud's flashback and his stats were weak compared to endgame.

I can't remember clearly, but wasn't the PS1 gameshark really expensive compared to other cartridge-based ones?

Im a 90s kid so i had one for my PS1.
I LOVED IT.

I never figured out the trick to this. Wanted to play DBZ legends and tobal 2 so bad too...

My gameshark was the disk version that took an hour to get to work since it was such a piece of shit.

I fuck around with cheats after I 100% games.

Man, kids now will never know the feels.

I actually had this one except it was black only worked with earlier PS1 model they removed the port it used later. Gamesharks had shitty fucking build quality my N64 and PS1 gamesharks both stopped working within a year of me having them.

I miss those days.

No shame. Fucking with games provided me with countless hours of entertainment.

Reminds of the Aladdin Chip I used to used, looks like that and I had to use as spring to play imports an burned games.

Yeah because I'm not a fucking cheater, unlike fucking David Zwick who had every single game console ever just because his parents had lots of money and little love.

I have it on my shelf about 8 feet from me, most fun I ever had with it was hacking in all the monster rancher types and having a grand battle royale to find which one was the best.

I also had that special drive thing that you could plug memory cards into and download save files off the internet.

>wasn't the PS1 gameshark really expensive
Doesn't look like it.

>worried about cheating
>In offline single player games.

Enjoy not playing around with dev tools, faggot.

It was usually in the $35-$50 range depending on sales. So about the same price as a regular game.

Oh man, this was the only way I could beat the Ninja Gaiden games as a kid, and I say games but I really mean 2 because I could never beat 1.
Fucking finale glitch.

i used this for my 4th or so playthrough of golden sun , it was amazing. one of those games that gamesharks actually make more fun, like san andreas

>ever being a console pleb
>even decades ago
Why haven't you killed yourself yet?

shut up david, people only liked you because you had a sega genesis.

I was an admin at GSCentral.com when it was huge, AMA.

>had Game Genie for NES
>never got one for SNES
>never got GameShark for PSX, always wanted one
>finally bought one last year

Finally, I can sit down and start a new career in Gran Turismo 2 without having to do all the damn license tests. Looking forward to seeing what sort of interesting ways games can be broken with it. I just wish they didn't change their code scheme, I constantly have to check to see if the codes I'm finding are the old version or the new version.

ooggggod the nostalgia it burns

Us le old men amirite

Did any companies ever tell you to remove codes for their games?

I never saw a gameshark, game genie, etc. where I lived, so the first time I found out about cheats like these was through emulation.
The "press L to levitate" on Ocarina of Time blew my mind.

My first console was a PS2, why would I?

...

I remember reading something way back about how much you could do with games, with these, beyond what the code books provided.

oh yeah, w..well you peed your pants in school that one time, how about THAT!

Never, I don't think we ever received a complaint or request to take anything down.

me and my buddy sucked so bad at double dragon that we had to resort to this

i used this to clip through walls in pokemon and get to unreachable areas, good times

>Levitate into gerudu valley
>Open chest
>Odd mushroom
Why was that even there?

Do the cheats magically not exist after beating a game?

Most anons are now younger than Ocarina of Time.

still have mine

>bough the mega memory card
>my ps2 could read it and said it had to be reformatted
>reformat it
>only 15 blocks available even if i put it in my ps1

I'm one of those 95%. I've had a game genie instead.

>mfw those code lists for gameboy advance games were like fifty lines each

always worrying that i'd get one letter wrong on the twentieth level and have to do it all from scratch

This was fun when I was a poor kid and was limited to reading them at the store and memorizing the codes for the few games I did own. Either that or I figured out something myself by accident by replaying the same 3-4 games so much. Then the internet came along and cheat codes were a click away, kind of kills the sense of discovery.

Does this count?

Yeah I have, not for the playstation though

You are now aware that 99.9% of anons here never used the serial port either.

You are now aware that there will never be a gameshark/genie on current gen since everything has to be connected online and they'll update the console's firmware to negate it

Even with a chipped PSX I still use one to skip the bios animations. Also does anybody know the name of the parallel port device for PSX that allows you to back up saves? I saw one on Ebay years ago and can't find any information on them.

>skipping the bios on a ps1
ishygddt
Also, I think there is way to backup ps1 saves with a ps3 and the adapter thingy.

amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Memory-Card-Adaptor/dp/B000K1GZIU

Costs a fuckton but there is probably knockoffs that work the same.

This is why I hung on to my 1001 version psx

You mean back them up to a computer? You need something like an Xplorer with Xlink.

I should have been more specific, it was some weird looking box that plugged in the back and had (supposedly) 20 or so memory cards worth of storage you could write/read from a menu.

The only time I ever used it was to link systems with an old roommate and play Doom together.

I used that. I once used it on FF9 and ran into a creepy glitch where Zidane's battle stance was him climbing/humping a sword.

>tfw you use the gameshark too much and your copy of pokemon was almost fucked irreparably until you figured out what you did wrong and reverted it

...

They made regular memory cards that did that. They had an LED on them that had a read out for which memory card you were currently on.

i miss being excited for these gaming magazines

for some reason i cant figure it out but they just feel like they've changed. each individual magazine doesn't really seem that valuable or important anymore.

Lives are stupid, I always cheat to get infinite of them.

>every year over half the website's userbase disappears and is replaced by newly-turned 18s who actively prevented themselves from visiting the site until they turned 18 because of the honor system

I'm pretty sure Nintendo tried to sue Galoob way back in the day and got shut down so I can't imagine why anybody would bother after that.

Why did they break so fucking much? It seems like I could get a good week or maybe two out of one of these and then it'd stop working and I'd have to buy a whole goddamn new one off the internet

>one of this

I had a game shark. Made final fantasy 8 way more fun.

>work retail
>tfw checking out people buying cigs, checking their ID, and having to doubletake since it always catches me off guard that people born in fucking 1999 are now old enough to buy them

I'm not even that old but goddamn do I feel it sometimes.

Because 95% of the time it's just a copy paste of an online article that can be read for free.

fuckign scrub

...

Nigger please. I remember talking about one of the disks a gameshark came with that talked about game hacking with my Spanish I class in middle school. She thought I was bullshitting and brought some bants saying "Sure, just tell us about the porno that followed the vid.

does anyone else feel compelled to drop money on all this bullshit just to build a beautiful N64 stack?

SHIIIIT. I couldn't tell you how many times I started a game with some fuckassrare pokemon in NG taking the place of the main 3.

Its box had a similar aesthetic to pic related and its functionality was similar but its primary purpose was backing up saves to its own internal memory.

Still have my SNES Game Genie.

I used to have GameShark for my GBC but sadly the fella shit to bed.

Hi

No i used this one

>using the file browser to listen music and see the cut scene of japanese rpgs you didn't understand a thing

A PS1 on Brazil in the 90's, piracy golden years.

Nice Catto

>tfw you opened up your animal crossing wild world catridge and used a sodering iron and metal to fuse together two pieces so you could hack the game

They had a town editor and everything. Rivers buildings trees cliffs neighbors bells furniture it was all editable.

had a 64 game shark

was fun fucking arond with until someone sat on it

i used cheat codes in tenchu to mess with the guards

my nigga

i still have a code mag around somewhere

fuck you I played wipeout with my roommate with that shit.

I actually have this one. It let me burn the shit out of Megaman X bosses.

>Tenchu with debug mode
So many options led to so much fucking fun with friends. God damn i miss the simpler times.

What is this?

welcome to the 0.1%

>CHECKING THE RAM CARD. . .
