Don't bother with Fallout 4, it's not even worth your time

A few days ago I pirated this game with the mindset to give Todd a chance, maybe this hate is just Sup Forums being a bunch of contrarians and it's not that bad. I was wrong. So goddamn wrong, this game is such a goddamn flat fucking snorefest even with a plethora of mods installed. I gave it 30 hours and I only had fun for about the first few. So I'm here to warn you Sup Forums, don't even bother wasting your time with this free weekend bullshit, don't even bother pirating it, it's beyond irredeemable.

they saw shit that was popular around the time that fake fallout 4 website came out (crafting games, certain mods for new vegas) and slammed it into their game as fast as possible for a quick buck. they neglected story and rpg elements for shiny new features that they could finish as fast as possible (voiced protag, crafting etc.)

basically it was rushed to cash in on hype and to apply to a mass audience.

I pirated it around release and it was only ok. it's not fallout, it's not even an rpg. it's a chore simulator pretty much, which I can enjoy sometimes. mechanically it was a bit more enjoyable and improved than NV, but lacked everything else completely

Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. It's an action shooter game but those elements are shit compared to actual shooters. It has base building and survival but it sucks compared to actual survival games. The rpg elements feel tacked on and useless and it doesnt help that the story and quests are poorly thought out.

The only neat thing in this game is the power armor.

But even with the expansions, there is only 4 types of power armor. You get your first suit of armor not even an hour into the game, and you stumble across new suits every few feet. I had something like 35 when I stopped playing.

A few hours of play and you have done just about everything with it you can.

At the time I sort of begrudgingly accepted it and modded the shit out of it to make it bearable but when NV came out Obsidian pretty much proved that a 3D Fallout could not only be done well but be an actual masterpiece. NV pretty much healed all the burns FO3 gave to every true Fallout fan who wanted a rebirth made by people who knew what fallout was so I don't hate it nearly as much as I hate FO4, which has no fucking excuse to be as bad as it was.

How to make Fallout 4 amazing:

1) Install Nexus Mod Manager

2) Install the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

3) Install War Never Changes overhaul

4) Change the difficulty to Survival Mode

5) Install ReShade and use Adaptive Sharpening and Technicolor2

6) Ignore any of the main questlines in the game, instead only exploring and doing side-quests

Where is the part that involves porting the game over to an engine that doesnt ruin the experience?

Survival is trash because they designed the game around the normal game, if they thought about survival from the moment they started making it it wouldn't be so fucking tedious.

It's an observation on the level scaling, it's quite boring at the start because the enemies don't get that hard till you level a bit, even on V.hard.

That still doesn't fix the voiced protagonist, one dimensional companionsexcluding valentine he's actually cool, lack of choice in side quests, lack of any change towards the world at all when you complete those quests, terrible animations, terrible weapon design, terrible gun continuity, shitty voice acting, shitty facial animation, no skills, RNG speech checks, only ever having speech checks that boil down to "sweeten the deal with more caps ;)))", and above all else boring as fucking sin repetitive shootan lootan game design. Like OP said, it's fucking irredeemable, just play Far Cry or get some actual taste and play New Vegas.

fallout 4 is the only bethesda game I played to completion without having to install any mods to keep me interested. I don't know why everyone says it's worse than fallout 3 or skyrim.

The gameplay is great. The story and factions are absolute dogshit, however. Easily worse than Skyrim's already dumbed down factions. Now just watch the Railroad ending be the canon one.

Please please please do yourself and I a favour and play them. You will not regret it man, they are the best games in the series without a doubt. I thought the same way as you initially, but after getting about an hour or two into it I was really impressed and surprised. Theres one channel on Youtube, RetrospectiveGaming, that covers the first two Fallout games extensively.

Word of caution though, focus on AGI and END for well rounded combatants, and AGI INT for characters who talk their way into and out of things, CHR is useless.

so what? the dialogue in bethesda games was always shit. even in new vegas you probably spend less than 5% of your total playtime having conversations with npcs. it's far more important for the other 95% of the game to not be complete garbage.

Was the opposite for me, the game was alright at first, wasn't anything amazing but it was entertaining enough as a melee build. As I got further into the game the more I started to loae interest as the story, world, and quests were just lacking. I ended up just burning through the main story just to get it done.
