but he was the puzzles were stupid; the chests take too long to open; fighting enemies involve too much waiting; the game is too bogged down by its formula; the bosses are too predictable; you are forced to waste your time with a dumb story; etc

I think he is pretty right if we aren't considering how old the game is. The fact is, Link to the Past aged way better than Ocarina of Time.

Two hours into Breath of the Wild my first thought was "holy shit it's like Nintendo literally took everything in that video to heart".

no he wasnt, the fact that 3d means there is shit behind your character that you can't see.

Most of the stuff he complained about is still present in BotW, just in different ways. For example, you don't have to wait forever for chests or doors to open anymore, but instead you have to wait forever to receive a shrine orb from a monk (which is skippable, admittedly, but for some reason you can't skip it immediately and still have to watch through at least some of the cutscene), download a feature onto the Sheikah Slate, and enter/exit shrines.

the eye puzzles are worse tho; you have to awkwardly use the first person mode and it is easy to miss. at least with the kill 3 enemies puzzle you know immediately what you have to do

They had a few cool quest, but I wish there was more. Also I kinda hate how you don't get a house in the town you help make.
