They're linear.

mandatory tutorials and useful game mechanics locked behind story progress (looking at you, tales of berseria).

nothing

rip in piss pepperino

Nothing, nu/v/ now hates open world games.

what happened t opepe

gameplay gets stale quick. I'm not sure why Spec Op: The Line is constantly praised when all it consists of is cover and shoot.

nothing

we've all learned that non linear games always end up empty and contentless.

Nothing. Literally nothing.
This is a bad implementation of linear games

old Sup Forums hates open world games, it's nu-Sup Forums that loves them

No, nu/v/ hates open world games

Creator turned SJW, wants to kill off his own character, but you can't kill a meme.

he died then rose again

no, nu-Sup Forums loves open world trash

...

no, nuvovovovovov hates open world games

>now hates open world games.
>now
good try underage

Nothing, it's just that open world games are the only thing western AAA publishers do properly anymore

Nothing.

>trying to kill your own creation because you lost control of it
>implying it's just that easy

When you only get to use the best/ultimate abilities for the last 10% of the game because it offers no replayability through the completion of its story.
No exploration.
No deviation from a prescribed objective.
The worst is when a linear game has a minimap which really drives the lack of freedom home as you're given a birds-eye of a non-branching corridor that is filled with non-interactive, fluff decorations; like a lab rat running to the end of the containment area for a piece of cheese (the set-piece boss fight).

At least if I'm going to be running for a piece of cheese, I want the option go get one in a hundred different directions to simulate the sensation of overstimulation.

Maybe you prefer to be under-stimulated. Type to jack off with oven mitts on or some shit.

What retards don't realize is that Open World/Linear/Metroidvania/whatever are just tools and don't inherently make a game good or bad

>God tier
Open ended levels, linear level path (Thief, Crysis)
Open world with fully static item placement and leveling (Gothic)
>Good tier
Well designed linear level structure with hand implemented enemy encounters and progression (Half-Life, Oot)
Open world with some leveling elements (Morrowind, modded Oblivion)
>Shit tier
Fully leveled open world (Ubishit)
Cinematic linearity (naughty dog shit)

Bullshit, Sup Forums loved open world games until 2012 when every developer started making shitty open worlds to cash in on the Skyrim meme.
