Okay Sup Forums I just marathoned the entire Kingdom Hearts series. I bought 1.5+2.5 and 2.8. It was my first exposure to the series ( I see it gets talked about here a lot). And I must say, this series is fucking magical. This is now my all time favorite video game series. The gameplay was outstandingly fun. Probably the best combat I've ever played. The music is pure sex and the characters were likable and I actually cared about them.
I did hear before I started playing the series that the story was batshit insane and yes indeed it was but for some odd reason, I loved it. It's filled with over the top bullshit but that's the beauty of it. You just want to see how much more crazy the story will get.
Let's have a Kingdom Hearts thread. I am running off pure hype and enjoyment and I pray Kingdom Hearts 3 will be at E3. Oh personally my favorite game in the series is Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix. The most fun I ever had playing a video game
I play it mostly for the combat, the story never really gripped me. I'm glad you had such a blast though.
Austin Stewart
Yes the combat is easily the best part about KH. Is there any games with similar combat to KH?
Brayden Hall
None that I can think of honestly. FF15 is sort of kind of similar but probably not what you're looking for.
Jordan Baker
I heard FF 15 was a unfinished mess but if it has combat close to KH I may give it a shot
Evan Robinson
Yeah, Kingdom Hearts has always been fun, but the eternal wait for 3, the 2.8 and 0.2 bullshit and the incredible asspulls the story does sour the franchise for many.
Jackson Clark
Yeah, it was kind of unfinished, and I say that as someone who liked it. They're trying to "fix" it, so to say. Pic related. There have been multiple surveys since the game came out.
Hudson Wood
Watch some videos first. It's much slower than KH, like I said it's the only thing I can think of.
Dylan Walker
If you're hungry for more, you might still want to play the games that only got a movie summary version in the remakes.
Also try beating all the secret bosses if you haven't, especially the ones in KH2FM. They're the best part of the game.
Gavin Walker
The combat feels a lot slower and weightier, I think KH has much better combat. Also the magic in FFXV is horrendous.
Noah Jenkins
I ended up getting 1.5 and 2.5 for PS3 recently. After finishing 2 Final Mix, I can say without doubt that I love these games. Playing this actually cemented my decision to get a PS4 sometime soon.
Austin Kelly
If i buy 1.5, 2.5 and 2.8 do i need to buy anything else, i want to get in the series but seeing so much remakes and hearing that all the games are connected kind of pull me off from the franchise, i did enjoy 1 and 2 but after that i never touched any other game on the series.
Jonathan Murphy
Games with similar combat to KH, one way or another:
-Dissidia Final Fantasy is essentially KH combat as a fighting game, it's probably best to just play Dissidia Duodecim as it also contains most of the content from the original game -FF7 Crisis Core, essentially KH combat without a jump button. Not as good but still fun. -FF15, but it's severely dumbed down. Wouldn't recommend it honestly. -Anything by Platinum Games if you somehow haven't played their games despite posting on Sup Forums, but especially Nier Automata for actually being an action RPG and not just an action game. -Okami and DMC also count really -Kid Icarus Uprising, the controls are very different but the sensibilities are similar
Nathan Butler
>eternal wait for 3 >KH2 came out in 2005 There are people who can legally post on Sup Forums who have spent more than half of their lives waiting for the proper KH3 to come out.
Jace Cox
1.5 2.5 and 2.8 have all, the games except for 3 and those 3 are in movie form.
Kayden Kelly
1.5,2.5, and 2.8 are collections of the games specifically for people to catch up. Besides maybe reading up on Unchained/Union Cross, you should be caught up if you play through those.
Aaron Parker
There games in the meantime.
Oliver Walker
Welcome to the eternal wait for KH3
Kill me.
Brandon Sanders
have you done any of the optional content for the games? 2's optional content is fucking awesome
Nathaniel Morales
I like the handheld games alot but they just aren't the same.
Ryan Parker
Ideally you should play/emulate the original versions of all the games in release order, making sure to play the Final Mixes where applicable.
The PS3/PS4 remakes have some problems that make them inferior to the originals, and some of the games are just reduced to a cutscene movie.
If you aren't a perfectionist though, you'll get all you NEED in preparation for KH3 from those collections.
Mason Cook
You miss out on re:coded which is great but DDD and 365/2 aren't super worth it imo .
Aiden Stewart
recoded is a remastered movie on 1.5+2.5
Jose Ross
I love dmc god hand etc, but I guess I just don't think of them as similar to kingdom hearts.
Samuel Ward
I bought 365/2 Days hearing it had a great story, but started hearing it has a horrible combat system. Should I play it or just watch cutscenes?
John Garcia
Which sucks because re:coded is a super solid game and utterly pointless for the plot.
Brody Hughes
Best character in the series hands down. Not up for debate
Charles Peterson
I never watched the movie so I don't know if it misses out on anything but you heard pretty right.
Most of 365/2 feels like a total slog because they're trying to develop the three protagonists as freinds, but it really just involves alot of filler, going to reused maps from KH1 a dozen times to do the same basic tasks was pretty mind numbing.
Sebastian Turner
>I bought 365/2 Days hearing it had a great story >Days >Great story Somebody lied.
Julian Thomas
>utterly useless for the plot Ehhhhh, I think Data Riku is gonna be one of the 13 hearts of darkness so that's semi-relevant
Gabriel Cook
the story is experienced better if you play the game, but I don't blame anyone for not wanting to play through it and just want to know the plotpoints needed to understand the larger narrative. So depending on how much you care and how much time you have on your hands I'd say just play it for a bit, and depending on how much you tolerate the gameplay you can choose to keep going or just watch the movie.
Andrew Gutierrez
None of the KH games has a great story, especially not 365/2 that revolves around an epic twist you saw from a mile away
Mason Thomas
I beat a few of the Data battles: Vexen, Xemnas, Lexaeus, and I tried to fight Terra's Armor but he raped my soul 15 times in a row so I raged quit
Elijah Smith
The movie version cuts out a lot, so if you're here for the story, absolutely play it.
The gameplay is indeed rather dull, though passable if you're invested in the story.
Noah Fisher
Congrats you have shit taste
Cooper Evans
>Data battles HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO THESE ON CRITICAL
I'm level 99, went in pretty confident after beating Sephirot and immediately got my shit pushed in.
Jacob Green
You actually enjoyed Re:Chain of Memories?
Anthony Cooper
They are easy as fuck at that level though. Most people who play on Critical beat them at level 1.
Oliver Taylor
I too love Kingdom Hearts and it's the only franchise I deeply care about. It's like Nomura created this all for me.
Adam Gutierrez
What's his endgame?
Bentley Gomez
Why wouldn't he enjoy the second best KH game, and the absolute best if Final Mixes aren't counted?
Aaron Fisher
They're basically puzzle battles. You need to recognize their patterns, and line up the appropiate magic/limit/summon to best exploit their openings and weaknesses.
Half the fun is figuring all that shit out. There are plenty of in-depth guides that'll walk you through the fights, but I recommend giving them a crack while you're still blind. It loses its luster a bit just following a walkthrough.
Grayson Collins
>And I must say, this series is fucking magical
Just wait until KH3. Then it will STOP being magical. Why? Because it will be drowning in Nu-Disney.
Jordan Walker
he definitely moves up a few pegs thanks to DDD, but I think Sora takes it overall
Logan Edwards
Look ma, he said it again!
Henry Perez
CoM is only really good on GBA. I didn't like the 3d version of it at all.
Blake Rodriguez
>Nu-Disney what?
Benjamin Parker
I would like to know that too. I watched the movie a few days ago and it is obvious the master is the traitor, but what is his deal and who the fuck are thos foretellers. Why was the only one the master was 100% serious with Ava? Also how big of a role will Luxu play?
Gavin Barnes
youtube.com/watch?v=3M_lcWqm8HE Bl00dyBizkitz is the world's most powerful Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix player. He is also a qt.
Lincoln Nelson
Ignore it. Every time KH3 gets discussed, paranoia tends to follow. One of the "arguments" is "Nu-Disney"/"Nu-Square" which basically means, anything new that whoever said it doesn't like by virtue of it being new and marketed towards them.
This tends to proceed accusations of Nomura not putting anything before 2008 in KH when there's no indication of such a thing being a policy.
Jordan Murphy
Really love the surreal picture there. Sora looks oddly good with less spiky hair. Wonder if Nomura would ever alter that about Sora. All things considered Nomura gave Cloud a less spiky hair style in Advent Children.
Evan Moore
It's a neo-meme. Don't worry about it.
Jayden Butler
this. BB is a fucking KH savant. Check out his "challenge" runs when you get a chance. He does randomizer runs, wisdom only runs, things like that.
Camden Rodriguez
The Foretellers are the leaders of the Unions in X/Unchained/Union Cross. The Master of Masters, is their master. There's not much known about the MoM except that he gave all of the Foretellers the Book of Prophecy and told them all different things.
Brayden Morris
Sora will take it when Nomura stops writing him like a Shounen Dumbass Hero type. I miss Sora's humane traits from KH1 and CoM. Once he became Happy and Blissfully Unaware of EVERYTHING and NOT Question Anything? That's when Nomura ruined him. Even worse? Even Neku in DDD told Sora:
"Shouldn't you be hesitating in trusting me after I sold you out?"
And Sora gives a flimsy excuse to trust a traitor. I don't like this bullshit.
Nicholas Harris
Why are their faces hidden? Don't tell me they are going to be clones of pre-existing characters too.
Brandon Perez
Well to be fair, Sora literally doesn't have darkness in his heart . So I can see why he acts that way. It's a character flaw, not a shounen meme
Eli Anderson
>The whole "darkness" thing was giving me vampire/werewolf vibes, complete with a malevolent master who turned him >Long mane of silver hair >Playing COM >"Come on out, Ansem. I can smell you." >Cool older friend who looks out for you
He's awesome.
Ethan Flores
Some people think that. But so far we don't know why their faces are covered. They have yet to be unmasked. That's actually untrue. Everyone except for PoH and Ven temporarily have inherent Darkness in their Hearts. It may be different amounts, but it's there.
Jordan Gutierrez
I can never not laugh at this scene. It's inspired.
Lincoln Miller
He feels more grown up to me. He would say the same shit in KH1.
Lucas Turner
i heard they still haven't fixed some bugs in 1.5+2.5 that were in the ps3 versions. is that true?
Brandon Watson
If Sora didn't have darkness in his heart he wouldn't have become a Heartless that time. Kairi is the one without darkness.
Lincoln Sanchez
becoming a heartless literally means they take your heart. A PoH can become a heartless too. It happens irrespective of how much darkness you have.
Oliver Hernandez
I'm kind of worried with SE's recent statement that KH3 will come out within the next 3 years. I fear they're going to have Nomura rush KH3 so he can focus on the VII Remake.
Isaiah Martinez
That's not entirely true. In KH2 and even in DDD he has moments he expresses negative emotions, either towards himself, towards others, or to the situation in general. Like how in KH2 he even questions if going after the Heartless is a good thing if it benefits the Organization, and in DDD he clearly gets angry at Xenmas and Xigbar for what they revealed to him regarding the Organization's "true" goal and tells them off near the end. But at the same time, I don't deny what you say, is somewhat a thing either as well.
Grayson Powell
Correct. Stuff like final Xemnas dropping the Reversal command still doesn't work (although I heard conflicting reports that is how it is intended to be played...). There are also some new bugs because of the port, most having to do with FPS-based stuff, but there's also a notorious save crash that noone has been able to replicate, it's just known to be a thing.
Chase Roberts
Okay let's do this:
>STORY Re:CoM/CoM > BBS FM > KH 1 FM > Days > KH 2 FM > Re:Coded > 0.2 >>>> Union X >>> DDD
>GAMEPLAY KH 2 FM > KH 1 FM > Re:Coded > CoM > 0.2 > DDD > BBS FM > Re:CoM >>>>> Days >>>> Union X
My taste is perfect I know
Bentley Butler
I heard that they fixed a bunch of problems that were in the ps3 version, but porting it to ps4 created a whole new bunch of problems.
Adrian Ross
Kingdom hearts 3 isn't coming out until 2020.
Jack Johnson
They said that they'd both be out "within the next 3 years or so", so they left the door open to be longer than that if necessary. The last thing I want them to do is release an incomplete mess (ala FFXV) and patch it into a complete game over its lifecycle.
Grayson Hernandez
This is literally wrong. The opposite is directly stated by in game reports.
Nolan White
...
Lincoln Morales
I'd put DDD = COM and above Re:Coded because it's an actual game and not modified cell phone crap. Rest is good for gameplay.
Liam Foster
kingdom hearts is great, and I unironically hope the story gets more and more convoluted with each game
Elijah Murphy
The best part about the story is trying to give a quick rundown of what the plot is and seeing the look of utter confusion or intrigue on their faces, it's cliche yet it's also incredibly confusing and weird like its high budget fan fiction. I also hope those rumors are true and the delays for three is so they can toss in the Avengers and Darth Vader.
Grayson Foster
So....a world of furries or alternate dimensions?
Nathaniel Cox
Only the princesses of heart are pure light. That's why kairi didn't turn into a heartless you dumbass. Sora became a shadow, the weakest kind of heartless, because he has an extremely small amount of darkness in his heart.
Cooper Stewart
go the fate grand order route
just add more sora faced characters and even more xehanorts
Chase Sanchez
Ys.
It's simpler but better imo
Kevin Barnes
Am I a pleb if I only like KH1?
Dont get me wrong a lot of them are great games and the things they add for combat are bretty damn gud sometimes but I can never replay the other games so I dont really like them much, I just dont have nearly as much "fun" in 2 unless it a sweet boss battle. I also never got to the 3ds one
Charles Carter
>its high budget fan fiction I have never seen anyone describe KH so accurately.
Daniel Bell
Threads of Fate (PS1) is kinda similar.
Colton Reed
you wot? Ys combat is nothing near comparable to KH.
Anthony Ramirez
I remember when bbs was considered the best combat in KH and then that changed to 2 and suddenly bbs is shit
what happened
Jason Allen
Fast paced hack and slash with 1 type of combo chain and magic?
Chase Turner
Huh, someone finally gets it.
Thomas Butler
You can make up your own combos in KH. From what I played of Ys Memories of Celceta is nothing like KH in any way. And it's in a top down view.
Daniel Taylor
I don't think anyone ever said that BBS had the best combat in the series, its crippled too much by being on a handheld, too much of the game revolved around spamming dodge for the absurd amounts of Iframes This is a problem with every SE handheld game That being said its easily the best combat of the handheld games.
Jack White
>Bl00dy >Links Biz Nani
Jayden Morgan
Fucking this >"Mickey mouse is there?" >"Why the hell is he in a computer now?" >"Why the hell are there so many key swords?" >"SEPHIROTH IN THE SAME ROOM AS GOOFY????" >"Johny Depp shows up?" >"YOU CAN DO TEAM SUPERS WITH AURON? Fuck it it buying this dumb game."
Chase Nelson
>Sup Forums enjoying games Always a wonderful sight. Glad you liked it. I stopped after 357 Days or whatever it was called but I still have fond memories of the series .
Isaiah Hill
A Heartless is the darkness inside someone's heart made form. The size and power of the Heartless depends on the amount of darkness. Hearts aren't actually "taken" at all, quite the opposite. Their BODY is taken(and appears as a nobody somewhere else), while their heart remains and becomes corrupted by darkness. In essence, a Heartless IS a heart.
This is why Kairi didn't become a Heartless even though she lost her heart - there was no darkness to make a Heartless out of so her heart just stayed in limbo (and took shelter inside Sora) and her body didn't disappear. A nobody was still formed though(Namine).
Yes, the word Heartless is an oxymoron and so is the word Nobody, since Nobodies are literally bodies without hearts and Heartless are hearts without bodies.
Luis Gonzalez
Why do people suggest playing the GBA version of Chain of Memories, instead of the 3D version? I hear it is about having to deal with the KH1 tier camera, or something like it: is it really that bad? Going to play it soon, but I'm not sure which version.
Also this: I'm watching his randomizer run right now, and Twilight Thorn T-Posing Sora back to his home planet was amazing.
David Rivera
>Was 11 when KH 1 came out >Was 15 when KH 2 came out >I'm now 26 and still no KH 3 What the fuck is wrong with these lazy japs
Alexander Cook
People in the west got to play the perfection that is 2FM, and realized that the combat in bbs is horseshit that revolves spamming dodge and using surge techniques. Also no combos
Brody Richardson
The GBA version just feels tighter and is better suited for the card mechanic. trying to shoehorn that mechanic into a 3d game doesn't work at all IMO. YMMV though, since you already have 1.5 remix (I'm guessing), you might as well give it a go there and make your own decision
wait till BB gets to Pride Rock
David Roberts
GBA has God Tier sprites and has a charm to it. The gameplay, worlds and atmosphere works brilliantly in 2D. It loses all fucking charm in Re:CoM. Only advantage it has is voice acting
Jeremiah Morris
>first game uses Disney pretty good >villains are occasionally just there to be boss fights, but usually worked into the narrative
>Chain of Memories follows up on this a little bit, even if it is rehashed >some things in the Disney worlds factor into the plot, like Alice talking about how your memories will lie to you
>Kingdom Hearts II onwards makes all of the Disney villains, especially Maleficent, shit >Disney worlds have nothing to do with the plot anymore and just pad out the game time by making you go through a watered down version of the movie plot
