That feel when you're playing the most intellectual game of all time

I, too, am a fan of pong.
The statements in MGS2 were predicted in short stories that were written a literal decade before its creation, as well as in Brave New World, circa 1932.
So not only is MGS2 nothing more than a retread, narratively, but to coddle its narrative the game was made shit. Flat cardboard characters, an awful villain faction, the most tedious boss fights imaginable, level design that consists of two hexagonal structures taped together, gameplay constantly being interrupted with shit like "disarming a bomb is kind of like a relationship" on top of the fact that most of the game is taken up by an easter egg hunt and a fucking escort mission. MGS2 blows.
Meant to say a literal century, not decade. The Machine Stops is a great story about conditioning, information control, and what happens when people become too complacent in their own distractions and comforts.
you do realize most of Sup Forums is underages right? nobody here would know
Did you say, nerd?
Only idiots believe otherwise. MGS2 is nothing but a typical hollywood story, thrown into the popular Japanese randomness machine based on "wouldn't it be cool if".
name a game that is thematically more intelligent, meaningful and important.
Nier Automata.
I have never seen a more impressively idiotic statement, I can't believe someone would so easily discard every structural element of ludic and narrative being at odds with each other and how it's a first for an entire media while making a broad comparison with written text as if it applied in any way because of its content.
>what is different mediums
>what is different methods of delivering the message
Next thing you'll say that it didn't achieve anything because it didn't invent post-podernism
>also what is topicality and why these themes needed rethreading in 2001
Persona 5.
>ludic
you used a Sup Forums buzzword, why should I care what you think?
Go play this, fag.
>ludic
>Sup Forums buzzword
look it up autismo. the buzzword is ludos btw
>that feel when you're playing the most kino game of all time
>waifu fapbait
>high school simulator
jesus christ Sup Forums
What's Sup Forums doing with video game terms?
better than whiny bitcher simulator
shitposting. Every board shitposts on Sup Forums.
Why do people think THAT is deep of all things?
>whiny bitcher simulator
>jack the ripper
>a whiny bitcher
so you never played past the tanker chapter because muh snake?
If you don't think it's deep, then clearly its too deep for your limited comprehension.
>Any Metal Gear
>Intellectual
Lol, when did this board get so full of children? The only games that truly require much thought are role-playing and strategy/simulation games. This shit ain't no Fallout 1/Planescape Torment or Dwarf Fortress.
>so you never played past the tanker chapter because muh snake?
I beat the game, even thought it said he was Jack the Ripper he really did fuck all after the reveal to enforce it.
It took fucking MGR to show the true nature of Jack.
it was a nice cutscene (and hard as fuck boss) but nothing I could consider "deep"
> planetscape:torment
Get outta here!
>he really did fuck all after the reveal to enforce it
you killed a dozen RAYs and cleared a corridor using a sword
>you killed a dozen RAYs and cleared a corridor using a sword
Gameplay =/= story
Kino doesn't mean deep.
the game disregards its story by that point, Snake recognized a cheat code inside a cutscene, your acts exist within that universe, narrative is not the same as narration.
>games that truly require much thought are role-playing
>When did this board get so full of children
these types of threads have been around as long as I've been here(2007)
>the game disregards its story by that point
no shit, when the entire game becomes a mess and the Codecs go bonkers.
that has a reason within the game's universe, EE's virus is fucking with GW and Raiden's nanomachines to an extent, that's why the radar turns into the video of a girl by the pool.
yes and bullshit like that is when I personally stopped caring about anything that happened afterwards.
The game stopped caring about it's story, so what should I still care?
If you're wondering what pseudo-intellectualism looks like, this is it.
>Gameplay =/= story
MGS2 begs to differ.
>the game stopped caring about its story
it never did, only you did.
the game was an exercise in misinformation and subverting expectations, it questions the nature of sequels and the relevance of narrative elements in video games and digital art as a whole, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy or grasp what it was getting at and wanted a definite narrative and a non-deconstructionist retelling of the Snake mythos but that's not what Sons of Liberty is about and it's not its fault either.
rly maeks me thingk
I hope you're referring to the childish Metal Gear kiddies, and not myself.
It is a fun video game.
Yes, yourself.

>Create a thread on /vg/ just to try and make other people go there
Such a intellectual
>Kojima intended the game to be a "fuck you" to the fans
>ends up unintentionally creating a masterpiece and best game in the series
Nothing says intellectual like LAUGH AND GROW FAT
that's a sentence I live by every day
>kojima intends to create a new studio as a "fuck you" to konami
>ends up unintentionally calling the new studio the same name as the one still owned by konami
It doesn't have the same name though.
>implying MGS2 is better than 3
Hahaha
>implying it's not
go watch more cartoons kid
>Kojima Productions is different from Kojima Productions
>Fallout 1, Planescape Torment and Dwarf Fortress
>intellectual
intelligent, nihilistic, and with a wicked sense of humor
株式会社コジマプロダクション is different from 小島プロダクション
Objectively speaking, the most intellectual games of all time
>Fallout New Vegas
>Nier Automata
>MGS2
>Dota 2
>Planescape Torment
Try to prove me wrong. I will enjoy watching your slow death from the ensuing aneurysm, the maggots feasting on your inferior brain.
I don't know if this is valid criticism but as much as I love MGS2 and those creepy codec calls at the end can you really call the game intellectual because of that? It's a self-contained monologue with no relation to the rest of the game. You could remove it and it would still be the same game with the same gameplay if you get what I mean. It's like imagine a dumb action movie where suddenly a character went into a monologue and started talking about some deep philosophical concepts to explain his villainous plan which could also have a more simple explanation like just wanting money/power.
>Dota 2
If I had the choice between hiring someone with a bachelor's degree in the relevant field and someone that just has 5000 hours in Dota 2, I'd pick the Dota player. It's one of the most intellectually demanding games of all time. Dota players all have an unusually high competitive spirit in them, and they tend to occupy the 95-99th percentile of IQs.
except for the fact that the structure of the entire game is a response to the first one, the climax of both games involves reducing player agency by having the main character either refuse to or incompletely perform the actions of the controller input, and the entire game is a statement on digital art and the future of video games, disregarding formal narrative and a century of audio visual grammar to embrace games as fully fledged experiences, I'd dare to say it's pretty influential and a little heavy on the intellectual side.
I'm not in the mood to get baited today
>by having the main character either refuse to or incompletely perform the actions of the controller input
When did that happen?
sorry i was talking about nier automata
holy fuck you are dumb
>Kojima intended the game to be a "fuck you" to the fans
But that's MGS4.
in the first one Snake refuses to fire the stinger missile against REX when it's grabbing Grey Fox, and in the second one Raiden refuses to take one hand off its genitals, making it impossible to choke grab enemies.
>grey fox
meant GRAY fox, not his pornstar pseudonym
>in the first one Snake refuses to fire the stinger missile against REX when it's grabbing Grey Fox
oh shit I never tried to fire one, that's cool
ITS NO GOOD
...
I CANT DO IT

The only game that was just too deep for Sup Forums.
tfw 5300 hours
first nice thing i hear about dota in Sup Forums
Thanks lad.
bump for the best game ever made.

>The Machine Stops
God damn I hated it though i think realistically people would have died out by that point
Really made me think.
In what sense? And technically speaking, the society that relied on the Machine did die out, if only because their created warden and caretaker malfunctioned and crumbled around them. The obvious irony of the story is that it's the "banished" who probably had the greater chance of surviving and reforming a better society from scratch, when being evicted from the Machine was supposed to be a death sentence.
