Simplification for an entirely different target audience.
That doesn't make any sense when they still could have had a babby dungeons that were actually hand crafted. Even DDS tried to go after the FF audience.

The target audience is waifufags, they don't care about dungeon design as long as they can pretend to have a girlfriend for 80 hours.
Tatarus is shit, P2 dungeons were better.
Because they wanted to do something different with Persona 3. Besides, a modern Japanese city isn't gonna have much in the way of dungeons. Most of P3 is spent in what's basically a normal city. No post-apocalyptic setting.

I prefer P3 with rng dungeons anyways to predictable and simple dungeons of P4
i imagine it had something to do with it being their first time attempting the P3 style ala the social link stuff and they focused on that more. keep in mind they didn't even do everything they actually wanted to do with P3. it's why they released FES and P3P to squeeze out at least some of the other things they really wanted to do.
The dungeons in DDS1 were absolutely boring and dreadful. It was on a whole level of bad compared to SMT3 which had dick tier dungeons, but never felt as bland as SMT DDS1.
DDS2 had cool as dungeons, like the airport. That was memorable. Persona 4's dungeons are worse than Tartarus randomization, someone post the final dungeon in Persona 4. The linearity of it all, lmao.
