Diablo 2

Things are really picking up for Diablo 2 suddenly. Anyone picked up the game again recently? I've been playing a Druid on PoD.

If I were to play this and the first game today would they still hold up? I don't mind isometric perspectives at all or old games as Fallout and Planescape are two of my top 10 favorite games.

I suppose it depends on what kind of games you like. Fallout and Planescape are slower paced and focus on the RPG aspects plus storytelling. Diablo is all about the action and carving through hordes of enemies. Diablo 2 is pretty easy to pirate, so I would certainly give it a go. It's a classic. In my opinion, it's probably one of the best co-op games ever made if you got some friends to play it with.

I'd been playing a summon necro on median xl.

I don't mind mediocre combat as I previously stated Planescape is one of my top games. I like atmosphere, soundtrack, and art design and was wondering if these games still hold up atleast in those regards.

>If I were to play this and the first game today would they still hold up?

Other than screen resolution, yes. The biggest D2 gets without patches that get you banned is 800x600.

Diablo 2 has great atmosphere not like that cartoony bullshit Diablo 3

You mean D1. D2's problem is that the atmosphere is all over the place.

where the fuck do you even get d1

>just started summon necro in median xl also
my nigga

Comes in the D2 battle chest, provided those are even still being sold.

I'm in terror A5. I had to take a break to make my gear better because my summons were getting shit on.

not him but i got old copied cd's of d1 and hellgate
still in hatred, wondering how hard is those challenges, since one of them is limited to 50 level or under

>hellgate
god damnit, bit tired, meant hellfire

Make sure you get that shit done or your character will be gimped forever. They're not that bad but they require some persistence. Their website has a lot of information, you can just run bosses to get uniques then break them down and build uniques that suit your character.

download it

I don't think I'm going to play this season.

But just in case, what's the best cheap build for a hardcore p&b necro? How viable is it for soloing hell, what are the best MF runs, etc?

tfw poe and d2 are only relevant because of how hard d3 flopped

paying for necromancer

You could emulate the playstation version

>ladder reset

shit should I play it?

this is literally the only reason why I won't play warcraft 3 or diablo 2 anymore

What does this even mean?

unfortunately the hype will die after a month... But hey, it's a lot of fun while it lasts. I recommend it.

so is anyone interested in reviving the /vg/ general for the ladder reset?

Too bad Path of Diablo has such retarded developers. What kind of dumbfuck is still using loaders for Diablo 2 mods? Making your mod incompatible with D2SE is retardation for the sake of retardation.

the ladders on all the realms are reset, so all ladder characters get moved to Non ladder (they're separate and ladder chars can't play with non ladder, vice versa)

So everyone will be starting completely from scratch tomorrow on the ladder. People practice for weeks ahead of time, forming teams and training to be the first to beat the game and get to the top of the ladder on softcore or hardcore.

BTW generally you always want to play on ladder, since some of the best runewords and uniques in the game can only be acquired on ladder

is diablo 1 hd any good?

My favourite D1 mod is The Hell.

I'll be sure to blog post drops if it's made :^)

It's the same thing that happened to SC2. People realized it was shit and went back to brood war.

I'd shit my pants

well yes OP, I actually have

>hardcore paladin
>set players to 8
>level 11 by the time done with blood raven

there's a ladder reset coming? neato burrito

>spouts shit having zero idea what he's talking about

den of evil? how is that even possible?

in hell difficulty it's possible to drop anywhere, it's just asininely rare

I was surprised since I could have missed it if I didn't pick up a few gold piles.
the pit level 2

Both SC2 and D3 are fucking dead while D2 and BW are regaining their playerbase. Really makes you think.

What the fuck

The objective best build:
BONEmancer
Summons is a noob trap. Bone Spear is the following the path of the warrior.

also playing Assassin avoiding Trapsin or just spamming kicks on everything

d3 lost it's playerbase a long time ago and d2 has always had a large one
starcraft just benefited from it's modern machine compatibility update that made it free to play so it's not surprising people are going back to it

Warcraft 3 supports 4k if you update it lol.

hybrid sin is the best. I love mine

Is there an auto gold pickup mod for D2? It's literally the only thing D3 made right.

Dunno, the mod I'm playing has it built in.

I never liked flails because of how extreme the range of damage was, it makes it that much worse with the lightning damage added

If you want gold youre gonna have to bend down and pick it up yourself, lazy jew

Gold is damn near worthless in diablo 2.

I'm pretty new to this genre. I love Titan Quest and Grim Dawn, and I played some Torchlight 2 but got bored of it really fast. How good is Diablo compared to the "Diablo clones" that I've played?

You don't use lash on the sin as a weapon. You use it for the crushing blow and static field procs on your kicks for instagibbing bosses. It's one the godliest weapons out there for ubers along with the Ribcracker, which I also have a perf upped one of

whenever I got maxed gold I just gambled it
I usually got garbage

it'll probably be somewhat difficult to get into d2 if those are the only other arpgs you've played.

give it a shot, though, you might like it. kinda lacking in end-game content compared to newer arpgs

>played POE to end of act 3
>meh
is diablo 2 better?

Haha yeah that sounds about right.

Diablo 1 and 2 are and probably always will be the best Diablo-like games, hands down. After year and years of playing countless RPG's I'm convinced no loot system will ever come close to D2's

Significantly, Path of Leddit isn't that bad but it you'd be better off playing Diablo 2.

that Jah and an Ohm were my best picks last ladder. I was hoping to find myself a Stormlash but had no luck with the one drop I got.

Agreed, bonemancer is awesome. What's the best affordable build for a hardcore bonemancer at the start of the ladder?

Kick+trap assassin is also super cool.

I never played ass lady, so I have no idea what this means
I always liked barb despite him being the hardest for me for some reason

...

That sucks. It's either a 25% or 12.5% chance that a unique scourge will be a lash, IIRC. It's decently rare

Ohm and Jah are really nice finds

>unique ring drops
>feel my heart stop for half a second
>its a fucking nagelring

Got any tips for a hybrid sin that can take on hardcore ubers n stuff without spending a fortune on gear?

Yes, I know paladins are better but fuck that

I found this. Looking forward to using it. Sometimes I wonder how much it would be worth if it had 1 more soc

It's always a fucking nagel

I think you're spending a fortune on gear, stormlash is the easy-in for a weapon if you can get one.

stack crushing blow and lots of defensive stats like res and life... you want tons of res.

Look up some hardcore sin guides for gear ideas. If you really want to take on HC ubers then good luck to ya

wait, what the fuck? people still play diablo 2 and it gets updates? why don't they just update diablo 3 until it isn't shit or make diablo 4?

not the same, kiddo

What's everyone rolling for the ladder reset? I'm thinking about playing pally to run hell chaos asap

this is nu-blizzard we are talking about here pham. really think about this for a second

This.

What about just taking on hell solo + uber diablo?

Aside from relying on crushing blow, is it worth using weapons that add lots of elemental damage? Like that one throwing axe.

I tried the ladder last reset again and fuck that shit.
Botters don't do SHIT as some people think.
Dupers fuck up the entire economy every single reset.
Waiting for the next slashdiablo reset at this point.

do I need to buy it to play online?

are the updates really official though? like even the creators/owners of the game admit diablo 2 is still the best?

I started playing through again first time since like 2008 but honestly just went for single player since i dont have friends

don't need friends to enjoy trading with others

they roll out the updates through battle.net my man, even going so far as to say that they are working on dealing with botters/spammers
if anything they show they still give a shit by even doing ladder resets

For official bnet servers, yes.

>enjoying trading.
>make game with clear title for what I want and what I'm paying
>shithead joins and undercuts
>lol gl *leaves*

No, you want to stack crushing blow as nothing else works for ubers.

How fucking old are you?

da fuck.... I wish nexon would do this with old maplestory

C'mon man, it's fun!

Pretty sure den is the first level 85 zone in hell. You have a slight chance of high drops

>is it worth using weapons that add lots of elemental damage? Like that one throwing axe.
No, because this damage isn't added to your kicks... kicks are weird and only certain effects work with them. You want Crushing blow and good boots, like upped goblin toes or goreriders.

It's not. People run the pit, which looks the same.

Unless I'm misreading, elemental damage does get added to kicks, however straight +damage like Grief does not.

Is the physical component of the kick damage actually significant? Even upped gores look like they have pathetic damage, I wonder if they're actually worth using.

Also, I'm thinking that dual +lightning claws and claw block would be perfect for traps but a max block shield seems better for kicks. What do you use for a hybrid (on hardcore)?

when does the reset happen?

my favorite

are you illiterate? it's literally in the OP

>three decade old game
>still fucking sold in every fucking physical Walmart and Target in the known universe
>$19.99 + $9.99 online

really gets the noggin joggin

they know botters eat that shit up every ladder
crook-ass blizzard

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeke_and_Luther

laughed my ass off after I found out

Am I the only one who likes to play d2 casually? I play offline (and occasionally with a buddy), never did a ladder, and get confused when people on the threads start talking stats and builds.
I just genuinely find this game fun and comfy on my own.

yes, in 2000 when i was 9 years old

Why

I guess I should have said when tomorrow

quite contagious in the D2 community

Everyone here plays casually. People don't care about the ladder because they're racing or anything like that, it's just a notable time because there will be other people online to play with.
