I've got some bad news.
3DS port is all you're gonna get.
Either that or emulation.
W-what is it user?
See 1 post up.
in case you havent noticed it yet.
>squenix hates DQ in US,
>they believe HOWAITO PIGGAHS dont deserve it
>No DQM
>No DQ Theathrythm
>NO DQX
>NO ORCHESTRA IN DQ7 and 8 3ds (tho, the synth music is not bad, fucking midifags.)
>their Mobages are FUCKING REGLOCKED!!! (i sewar to god if Rivals is reglocked too...)
if you are a smart person, you will NEVER buy ANYTHING from squenix AGAIN!.
if they dont want to listen to the consumer, why the consumer should have to give them money?
I don't trust them anymore after the 3DS port. I just played it again on PS2.
What in particular do you like about it?
Naw, still going to buy the games I want from SE.
The thing about DQ is, the series is popular in Japan due to a lot of effective marketing early on. It was able to gain a foothold and so it's super iconic over there. But that isn't the case elsewhere. Since the games are actually mediocre it's not worth trying to sell in the west.
>they believe HOWAITO PIGGAHS dont deserve it
Are you being serious? That's goddamn retarded.
It's just a really comfy and charming adventure without being overly weeby.
if what you believe is true, then why dont we get the rest of the games?
and as i always say, better to get things clear, im not interested in the mainline, im interested in the spinoffs, mainly monsters, im not gonna buy a mainline game, that im not even gonna touch, since its obvious its not gonna help me to get the games i actually want.
>Since the games are actually mediocre it's not worth trying to sell in the west.
If DQ is mediocre then shit, most other JRPGs must be fucking garbage.
But 8 is deprecated now
Just because you like a game that stays in its roots doesn't mean others enjoy it.
is there a DQ infographic on how to get started and which games are translated?
just because u say others dont enjoy a game doesnt mean others dont enjoy the same game
Play the others. VIII is great but it's baby's first DQ. The other games have more interesting mechanics.
Just because you don't enjoy doesn't mean it's mediocre.
I just beat DQ8 on the 3DS with a mod that added orchestral music and un-censored a few outfits
Is anything else wrong with the 3ds version besides the music and outfits?
I l
Probably. You should start with 5 or 8 though. don't listen to start-with-the-first-game fags
Where should I start senpai?
Shit graphics and garbage menus
What are your favorite aspects of VIII? I'll try basing it on what you're looking for.
It's a handheld game.
IV it's a great way to start. IX if you want customization or co-op
3ds port music:
its not bad, you need better ears, period.
3ds port 'censorship'
its not censorship, all the changes were made by the director for the japanese version too, due to the more strict CERO regulations, outside the music, we have the very same game they have.
Start with 5. If you like it then go play 4, and then 1, 2, and 3. Then play 6. By this point you should be fully addicted to DQ and craving an adventure that goes on forever. This is when you play 7.
Don't listen to this nigger, IX is trash.
Well see for starters. I just really loved adventuring around to new places and meeting characters and finding new gear etc. Really all the things about any good RPG but for some reason DQ8 was just really charming and memorable for me.
DQ3 it is then. It's the essence of Dragon Quest and a true masterpiece. Play the SNES version.
I didn't realize how fucked I was by these graphics, playing on the 3ds.
Can't wait for Jessica's tits in slightly higher resolution
I didn't care about either of those things really, but they made DQ8 average-looking graphically which is an unforgivable sin
>No DQ Theathrythm
Who cares. I pirated that shit and it isn't that good.
Yeah, the only problem is that the 3DS versiom actually improves the game quite a bit. PS2 has random battles while on 3DS you can see mobs, and there's extra content as well, like new party members and being able to marry Jessica.
So it's like pick your fucking poison.
i really don't want to argue with someone who's recommending good dragon quest games but please play 1 before you play 3
>being able to marry Jessica
user you'd better not be fucking with me.
...
Well, yes. They are. Like any other genre, the number of good games is limited.
DQ1 is a bit hard to recommend these days to be honest. It's just a mindless grindfest. I know about the throwbacks but idk.
I'm not, look it up. Only on 3DS.
All DQ games have a pretty good "goofy sense of adventure" feeling. I feel maybe III, V, or VII would be best.
III is a more classic style like VIII. In the beginning you make your three party members from the seven/eight (depends on the version) class available. You go out doing your standard jrpg stuff, save some towns and kill some monsters being dicks, and it's overall just a fun adventure. It starts linear but later on it becomes pretty open ended.
V is probably the most "story focused" game. The story follows the hero from childhood to manhood and even sees you getting married with kids. It's full of twists from start to finish and has a lot of heart. Often your party will be made up of monsters that join you, human party members are not as common.
VII is my personal favorite DQ. It is VERY long, average playthough is around 100 to 110 hours. The game has a more episodic format. Your characters visit islands in the past that were destroyed due to some problem and upon saving them you can then visit them in the future. Around 20 hours in you will gain access to a job system. To me this DQ is the one that really screams "adventure". It feels like a saturday morning cartoon, I love it and it fits DQ perfectly.
So how does it play out? Do you cuck the princess?
good for you that you got the game you wanted, and im saying this seriously, not everyone is that lucky.
but at the end, it doesnt mean anything.
Yes, pretty much.
DQ1 SNES is fine. They increased the experience you get from monsters so you don't need to grind much if at all.
No, you still cuck charmless and just get jessica. It would be a win/win but you lose and marry jessica.
...
I played that and it still had a ton of tedious grinding. I just hit the turbo button whenever I needed.
It's boring. If you get to a strong boss you can't beat you have to grind because there's no strategy besides attacking every turn with only one party member
I had to grind at the start, but unless you're following a guide, you'll get stronger just exploring. There are also only 3 bosses in the game, one of which isn't a threat because of the flute.
i don't think there's any shame in fast forwarding through the majority of 1 and 2, but most people are going to do that playing through the series anyway and the throwbacks are still great even with just the quick runthroughs. i think it's better to start with 5 which is one of the strongest story-wise and has a lot of more modern conventions, and save 1 2 & 3 for when you're really familiar with the series. 3 will blow your mind that way
If you like 2D play IV. If you like big grand adventures with great QoL improvements over most JRPGs (visible enemies, sped up battles), play VIII on the 3DS
Please explain the appeal of DQ1 to me. I like coming up with strategies to beat bosses in JRPGs, I like exploring interesting worlds, I appreciate an immersive atmosphere or a good story, etc. so JRPGs are one of my favourite genres, but I don't see the appeal of DQ1 at all. The combat is extremely dull and involves no strategy and there's nothing else there. It's just a chore to play. Please explain what specifically someone might enjoy about it.
It's just a short, sweet adventure. The combat isn't why I like it, and I would never compare it to a more commonly-structured JRPG.
so the comfiest way to play the comfiest game series
what could be better
They're really laying the "this village is going to be fucking massacred" flags on thick here.
why did nobody tell me about Rocket Slime before this is pretty much the best video game ever made
That intro was added to the ps1 version.
You're right though.
>play DQIV
>not playing as Sofia
Oh shit son, what the fuck are you doing? Sofia has that sexy leotard and that fluff, how could you pick Solo?
>intro
This is chapter 5.
Also my first time through the series, I knew nothing at all about the game before starting it.
Sorry, I thought that was the intro scene. Chapter 5 is a ton of fun, I loved tracking down all the characters and having them join the hero. IV is definitely one of the best DQ games, I would say second best maybe.
Does DQIV open up in chapter 5 and you can do shit out of order or is it completely linear like the rest of the game?
Still pretty linear. DQ in general is pretty linear. I think only III and VII are nonlinear. In III there are different quests you can do out of order. In VII I believe you can do certain islands out of order.
2 opens up when you have to collect the crests.
>PC port fucking when
Do us a favor and kill yourself when you get the chance.
not buying the games from se wont make them release dq more you dumb fuck. what will get moew dq releases is if it actually sold well and was a good game. which it wont ever obtain
Ok then. That's a shame. I really enjoyed the amount of freedom the first three games allowed.
not him but immediately after you do it first
honestly the biggest appeal of dragon quest 1 is that playing it makes playing dragon quest 3 insanely better
if it didn't i wouldn't recommend it besides as a curiosity to fans of the series, but it does, and that dq3 experience is so good that it's absolutely worth it to go through a short but dated game to get it
rocket slime is gay
Is it just Erdrick or is there more to it? I can't that sort of novelty making DQ3 insanely better, I didn't find DQ3 to be particularly story focused. Seemed like the appeal was more related to the gameplay, with the party composition job stuff. And I figure going from DQ3 -> DQ1 would offer the same appeal.
The entire ending portion of the game. Everything about it.
