The Switch tan was bound to be the shittiest because everyone was invested so heavily into giving her a major gimmick and all of the regular designs that followed the examples of previous tans weren't as popular. The problem wasn't that she was gimmicky, it was that it was shown through the actual body of the character instead of the personality, making her a massive pain in the ass to draw compared to most.
There was no real creativity involved, Xbone being a normal anime girl with a cyclopes helmet was good, it was creative enough to get the point across but still simple in concept. Vita being Tomoko is a hoodie was fine as well for the same reasons, people tried way too hard on the Switch and we got this clusterfuck. Now everyone says to just accept every design which isn't really a solution it's just pretending the Switch concept wasn't a massive failure on the part of the general.
