I used to work there. Worked on PVZ2. EA sucked all the soul out of it and as the other poster said, made them churn put F2P mobile games. The company was never the same when the original founders left.

When people started getting tired of the same shit with a barely new gimmick they started doing layoffs and I'm pretty sure it's going to close for good. Glad I got out, just in time.

It's fun but some of the levels are brutal (but doable) without paid plants. Part of my job was to play every level with the minimum plants you could have and see if I could win. While PVZ2 isn't the worst game, it was clear when Worlds were designed around certain plants that were then cut out to be sold on the shop.
But you can get a hacked version.
I was so excited to work at PopCap specifically because of how great their PC games were.

PopCap didn't develop it so it was probably a rights issue.
After EA came along if it wasn't a money printer like Bejeweled, PVZ or Peggle it died anyway. They even took the Zuma decorations off the walls.

The real people at fault are always the founders of the dev teams who sell their companies to EA just to pocket the money and get the fuck out.

In spite of not really liking casual games that much, I really enjoyed PvZ And Peggle. It goes to show how much personality matters for games. I enjoyed PvZ2 for all of its faults, never went farther than that though.

Pity that EA turns nearly everything it touches to shit by accident or design.

Shame it has all the flaws of Garden Warfare 1 and with added retardation like forcing players to grind for an absolute minimum of 5 weeks just to get the 2 new characters.
Heroes is surprisingly fun and oddly balanced with the whole asymmetrical sides thing.
Imposter is also fucking amazing. 100% worth grinding 4 copies of.

That shit's actually more ridiculous than Imposter since Imposter can only shit out 1-cost Imps, which there are only 6 of currently, itself, Leprechaun, basic Imp, Ninja Imp, Impfinity Imp, and Swabbie, of which only Leprechaun and itself are really good, the others are kinda mediocre, but definitely not terrible.
In comparison, Currant can generate a wide range of Berries, 8 out of 10 of which are very strong. It generates a Berry, not a Berry Card, so it can make Berry Blast, Berry Angry, or Cherry Bomb.

Anti-Hero rush-down is usually your best bet if you're not controlling, which Combustible sucks at.
Sun-Shroom doesn't seem that good to be honest. By turn 2, all the good removal is ready to start firing, so it's basically bait, same as a Sunflower facing Control and as good as a Sunflower v. Aggro.

It seems like every time I come back to play it again, they have an update with new premium content and they've made the game harder again. When it first came out, it was actually kind of nice that they were trying to nudge people toward the shop with the difficulty because my one complaint about the original game was it was too easy, but now with the fucking pinatas and plant levels, you actually have to grind a PVZ game if you don't want to pay. Shit's unbelievable.
