SO IT'S GOING TO BE GOOD? XD
there I made the reply so nobody else has to
>sunshine tier
you mean impressive for 1 hour then its boring as fuck
Name 5 things wrong about sunshine
A little bit worried
No, not really. Is there any particular reason the level design would suddenly become a pain in the ass after about 10 years of it being pretty much fine?
Not OP, I like sunshine a lot, but it does have its flaws like repetitive levels like the red coins and shadow Mario.
Well, I can guarantee there will be one thing people won't like about it and that'll be shitposted to hell
There's a lot we don't know about it. SM3DW's "exploration levels looked promising," look how that turned out.
This is before anything like hat gimmicks, the story, the characters, etc.
It could be the best game ever made and Sup Forums will hate it this fucking place is terrible I only come back because seeing you cucks makes me feel better about myself.
>Anyone else worried this is going to end up being Sonic Adventure tier?
>impressive for 1 hour then comfy as fuck
fix'd
>Almost a quarter of the shines are blue coins
>Stupid premise even for a Mario game
>Sirena beach
>Lame bosses
>That fucking pachinko level
I still love the game but i feel like it's not as polished as the other 3D Marios.
Fact: If Sunshine had blue coins removed entirely and replaced with 2-3 more worlds it would be hands down the best 3D Mario game
You're worried it'll be a good game?
>SM3DW's "exploration levels looked promising," look how that turned out.
Linear levels like the rest of the game? Nintendo did not promote 3DW as exploration themed.
>hat gimmicks,
You mean "power ups like in every other entry to the series"?
>the story, the characters, etc.
disregarded
Honestly a lot of it starts off as ironic meme posting but some people take it seriously and eventually all Sup Forums memes become actual talking points here. Seen it happen 100 times
Holy shit kys
>FLUDD mitigates most platforming
>20 Shines locked behind Blue Coins
>7 Shadow Mario levels, 3 El Piantissimo levels, a bunch of red coin levels
>Terrible camera
>Wasn't as free as 64
>Pic related
I can't believe Mario just got fucking murdered in cold blood
It's already worse than Sunshine tier, just by looking at "New Dong City" you can tell this piece of junk has zero inspiration behind it. Sad, I was hoping for something like Mario 64.
>No Ice level
>lol 2 jumps 2JUMPS
>EZ for the first ten minutes, I didn't play past that
>I'm a stupid faggot
>Please rape my face
Realistically though; Sunshine does have a couple of underlying flaws in terms of certain aspects of gameplay. The first thing that comes to mind are the laughably easy piranha-plant bosses and a couple of levels that revolve around either a bugged physics engine or pure guesswork.
With that being said; I actually praise Sunshine for its level design. While the multitude of worlds are required to adhere to some tropical theme I find each one refreshingly unique compared to the last. On that note; the method of which you progress the plot was also fairly interesting in how you were required to complete very specific missions in order to unlock the means of traversing the hub and worlds (to a lesser extent).
If you'll excuse my poor choice in wording; Sunshine truly shines when given the opportunity to tackle the bonus obstacle courses located throughout the world. The absence of Fludd reveals a very tight sense of movement and what I would regard as one of the pinnacles of platforming bliss. While I do enjoy the versatility Fludd brings into the game I must admit it does tend to dumb down some of the more challenging aspects of the game.
If you read this post your mother will die in her sleep tonight. To stop this travesty from occurring you must reply "BING BING 1UP WAH-HOO" to this post.
>new Dong city
Really makes my penis think...
Exactly. Remember, most of the gameplay footage we've seen so far has Mario on linear paths, save for the city level.
More like SMG-boring powerups. There are shops, though, so that leans more toward a FLUDD-like feature, which is a happy medium, I guess.
No, you can't disregard the cold reception to recent mainline Mario games and shit sales of the RPG games being on account of the uninteresting or bland stories. SMG1 was the last time we got ANYTHING interesting about the Mario world or Universe. Thankfully, Koizumi is on this, but that hat makes me nervous as fuck that SMS' poor quality in this area will repeat itself.
>I actually praise Sunshine for its level design.
But the jungle and Polygon area looks quite open though, so is the desert
Also cold reception? Stop browsing Sup Forums, faglord
>revolve around either a bugged physics engine
Second sentence; good reading comprehension and even better cherry-picking, faggot.
Fuck you
BING BING 1UP WAH-HOO
You mean the best 3D mario? I hope so, I've been waiting for something to top Sunshine
>BING BING 1UP WAH-HOO
Faggot
Not really cherrypicking, Sunshine is chock full of terrible levels.
Why are blue coins so hated? 64 had red coins, Galaxy has purple coins. They are just as bad. Why is Sunshine singled out as bad because of this?
Have you even played sunshine? The blue coins are nothing like the red or purple.
how is it any different from 64 then, it shares some of those flaws
Meh, all 3d Mario games has been horrible. Nintendo hasn't made a single good great since the SNES era
>378543089
Imagine being this desperate for (You)s
Bing bing 1up wah-hoo
Kys
This is true. Sony saved vidya with the Playstation 1
>not really cherrypicking
>but let me choose the worst level in the game
Upvoted, friend.
I like how you're picking optional shit that people skip or never even see.
>Nintendo hasn't made a single good great since the SNES era
(You)
DON'T EVEN TELL ME THAT SHIT'S FOR REAL
my biggest fear is the controls
couldn't enjoy 3D world because of that fucking hold button to run bullshit

BING BING 1UP WAH-HOO
Mario Sunshine has flaws, but it's still a very good game.
It shares the same flaws as the others, too many stars are from collectable coins.
>Mario 64 has 100 coins and 8 red coins stars.
>Sunshine has blue coins and these races (but they were short).
>Galaxy has 8 red coins and those fucking long-ass races
3D Land and 3D World were deliberately imitating the 2D games' control schemes.
We've seen Mario moving around in Odyssey and it looks identical to Galaxy but with more mobility
My mother is already dead. WHACHU GOIN DU NAW, NIGGAH BIATCH?!
>Anyone else worried this is going to end up being Sonic Adventure (or 06) tier?
Is this the most vapid, normalfag observation someone can make about Mario Odyssey? Unlike Sonic, New Donk City is clearly meant to be humorous.
Triggered
If it's a exploration level like any other it won't be an issue.
If there is mandatory talk, quests and shops it'll be fucking horrible.
>Is this the most vapid, normalfag observation someone can make about Mario Odyssey? Unlike Sonic, New Donk City is clearly meant to be humorous.
Is this the most vapid, braindead response the Nintendo Defence Force can make about other peoples' observations and legit worries? Unlike Reggie, Sup Forums is serious business.
after watching the trailer over and over i've noticed two different running animations
i'll just wait for E3 demo to confirm
I loved Sunshine though.
This. Sunshine is the best
Its 64, but better in almost everyway. Blue Coins is the only really shitty part. Could have been legitimate stars, but they probably didnt have time to make another level or 2 for those.
Granted, I hope it stays that good. But that's not to say that you as a player don't get "herded" to a linear path in that open area by how the lion moves, invisible walls, enemy swarms, etc. Jungle level had a linear vine ride and just the forest floor. The food area definitely came across like an SM3DW level.
Yeah, cold. The sales might have been high enough, but I don't know one person that got a great deal of enjoyment playing it, or remembers a lot about it.
>optional shit
Optional in the same way that 90% of stars aren't required to beat the game.
/thread
Fuck kiketendo
>sunshine tier
So good?
No, optional in the way that "you can beat every star of every main level in the game and still not get it". It's a BONUS level.
Also, in what mario game do you only need 12 stars to beat Bowser?
>but better in almost every way
Except it's not.
No.
>Legit worries
>Mario looks weird next to normal people
YOU
DON'T
SAY?
People are acting like the whole game is New Donk City, when it's just one hub and the contrast in character design is meant to be funny. You know, jokes. You never expected a modicum of self awareness and humor in a game series about a plumber jumping around with his bingbing wahoos? Jesus Christ, the place is called fucking NEW DONK CITY. Label me whatever you like, the fact remains your criticism is a vapid comparison with two cringeworthy, humorless Sonic games.
Its gonna have Mario and Luigi co-op ya know.
>mfw when it's gonna be an open world botw reskin starring mario
>mfw when
>my face when when
BING BING 1-UP WAH-HOO
It's just one level.
BING BING 1-UP WAH-HOO
I swear to god if it has blue coins I'm going to riot. Sunshine has so much shitty filler
There's no FLUDD. That makes it auto 10/10 already.
90% of them are spray random spot on the wall tier. They don't involve platforming in a platforming game.
BING BING 1UP WAH-HOO
>being too casual for a run button
Sup Forums finds new ways to be shit daily.
Can someone please explain why Sunshine is bad? I'm fuzzy as to how it is, loved it as a kid and still appreciate it today. I already know about the blue coin bullshit, but can you really talk shit about the graphics, the music, and the gameplay? Like cmon.
>wants to hold down a button 99% of the time
>to run
>in a fully 3D game with analog sticks
>making platforming a pain
it's shit in 2D games
It's even shittier in 3D
>Sunshine tier
so, best game in the series? why should that worry me?
>Fludd mitigates most platforming
I'm so tired of this meme. It extends platforming. The amount of maneuvers you can pull off with it is great. Just because you did single jump hovers for 12 hours because you're lame doesn't mean everyone else has to
>mfw there are people who actually defend the extreme stiffness of 64 and shit on the fluidity (pun not intended) of Sunshine
and whenever inquired about it, all they resort to is
>muh long jump
Oh no. A single secret level.
Except it is. Replay 64
It's not a meme, there's a reason why the 'Secret of ____' levels are GOAT and the rest feels like a B tier platformer.
>64
>stiff
64 is tight, Sunshine is less tight and the only times you're able to actually appreciate the engine is in the Fluddless levels, so 10% of the game. Fludd both encourages and covers for sloppy player performance. It doesn't matter if you make a mistake because you can always just correct your bad jump with the hover spray.
Gamecube nostalgia is a mental illness.
Maybe you should replay Sunshine instead.
This nigga gets it. FLUDD was a bad mechanic that ruined the game. It may have created more movement options, but in so doing nullified the essence of skillful platforming.
The secret levels where it was removed were not only the best parts of the game, but the majority of truly memorable moments that I have with the game.
As to OP's question, no. I'm not worried, because the hat thing seems to be much less intrusive than FLUDD. Given the greatness of platforming seen in 3D world (inb4 fuck off) and the world environmental design of the Galaxy games... this has the potential to be the greatest Mario game of all time.
Mario is at his best when the worlds don't have to "make sense" If he has to run across a bunch of floating, rotating wooden blocks, that's awesome. They have embraced this more and more since Sunshine, so as long as that trend continues, we are in for something special.
even the 3rd worst 3D mario would still make it good
Odyssey needs to be elder god tier though if they want the Switch to do well.
Fuck off with the sales shit. Switch will do fine regardless. That isn't what the thread is about.
yeah another 3D world or NSMU and it will kill the Switch's momentum in holiday
I don't think that'll be the case since there's no FLUDD to slow stuff down and the point of the settings seems to be varied as opposed to sunshine's regurgitating tropical levels.
>Switch will do fine regardless.
That's what they said about the Wii U.
>tfw didn't grow up with Nintendo games apart from pokemon and never understood the appeal of Mario
Start with Galaxy or Galaxy 2
Probably the best introduction games for people this gen that haven't played them.
As long as it's not like the floaty, garbage galaxy games that had the least movement options out of any 3D mario game it will be great.
Well, it's a Japanese work of art. You know, before the 21st century kids used to watch cheap cartoons from japan.
Think about old mecha animes or Tatsunoko's, Jump's like Saint Seya, Captain Tsubasa and such. TV networks bought japanese cartoons because they were really cheap and nobody really cared about quality content for kids.
TV networks aired tons of animes, both shitty and great alike with no filter. There was comedy like Doraemon or gruesome action like Hokuto no Ken.
Kids from the late 80ties and early 90ties familiarized with Japanese cartoonish aesthetics.
At some point Dragon Ball happened and the anime demand growth. Demand growth means price growth. TV networks started to cherry pick anime that could most likely succeed. But that's another story.
Well, Mario happens to feel very right to us who used to be kids in the early 90ties. It's aesthetic reminds us of classic Japanese cartoons we used to enjoy.
Mario also happens to be made by Japanese autists that put asian autist effort in every detail of the game. Both gameplay and aesthetics are usually top notch.
There's nothing really to get, they're just really good platformers.
I enjoyed 64 but if I try the 2D ones I get bored within seconds
the key to enjoying the 2d games is finding out about the run button
then learning that sometimes you have to let go of the run button
>sunshine tier
>implying that's bad
