Final Fantasy XIII

Are there any good arguments in favor of the design and story elements of this game?

Do people really like this game, or do only normies claim to like it?

What's the appeal, Sup Forums?

Gameplay

Fuck everything before FF13

-waifu
-great graphics at the time
-vanilla story
-good soundtrack
-decent combat system

it's just the most average game ever created

I like the CGI cutscenes.

Nice hallway simulator you got there.

This board is for video games only.

>>>>>>>>
Okay, you fully deserve my (You)

It had some fun boss fights

- CGI cutscenes are cool
- Sone of the music is awesome-tier
- Fuck everyone who says Lightning isn't best waifu
Other than that, it's pretty bad

More enjoyable and more Final Fantasy than XV

>tried to play the PC port
>the escape key would literally quit to desktop

It was actually amusing to see how bad they fucked it up.

I liked grinding turtles to max out my party

Vanille > Lightning

When you're allowed to actually have your whole party and customize them as you wish it can be kind of fun. That's when the game takes off the training wheels which is way too fucking late, so it's still not worth playing. FF13-2 does it better, and adds a cute monster system with it. I'd recommend that if you like the gameplay at all.

Everything else is irredeemable garbage though.

Fang > Vanille

Best song coming through.

>play it on release day
>performance is amazing, literally the smoothest game I've ever player my entire life
>press Esc
>quits to desktop, no saves made, instantly uninstall the game

>decide to give it a second months later so I can judge the game properly
>Esc is fixed
>But performance has gone to hell
What the hell, Square Enix

Tfw you feel more emotion playing the FF13 trilogy with its developed characters and convoluted plot than you ever did for FF15 bland characters and non existent plot.

I teared up all the Sazh scenes.

Sazh was the only decent, well-adjusted character in the entire game. By far best character, followed some distance away by Snow. But of course, his big dramatic scene was soured by his magical kart machine.

Fite me

the combat is actually somewhat fun and rewarding if you look to 5 star everything and farm adamantoise. the amount of time the party spends separated and just about everything else are shit though.

kek

I haven't played XV yet. Is it really somehow worse than XIII?

How?

SUGAR AND RAINBOWS?

Remember when the 14 year old boy wanted to outright murder Snow, Lightning's sister's fiance, and she just handed him a knife and told him to have at it?

Good times

They're both the type of games where the bad outweigh the good, but in completely different ways. I still enjoyed XIII and its sequels more. I found XV to be very dull and confusing.

In my personal opinions it's better in terms of gameplay but worst in terms of characters and plot since they're basically both non existent.

Like my kingdom just kind of gets taken over one day off screen and then I hear about on the radio then do a bunch of random things then fight the last boss then it ends.

I think I'm the only one on the planet who likes the last section of the game better than the first half because I find plot important.

Lightning has really long scrawny legs and no hips.

Childbirth will be very difficult for her.

>better in terms of gameplay
I'm gonna go ahead and stop you right there.

I love the doujins, Lightning is probably my 2nd place FF fap after Tifa.

Pretty shocking how few doujins FF15 is getting.

More please.

Did your game break or something?
Mine never looked like that.

>What's the appeal, Sup Forums?
because pic related is literally me, greying hair at 24 included ;_;

...

>followed some distance away by Snow
You best be joking.

>Did your game break or something?
Not that I know of. Combat was always a mess for me, don't even get me started on the Leviathan fight.

It is the only Final Fantasy that I ever player. At first it was kind of cool, but with time I got really bored and left it unfinished, even when the story was ok and had a god-tier waifu.

I liked the visuals, soundtrack, and battle system. The story wasn't all that great though. Alot of people complain about the linearity but i didn't mind it since that's how i usually play rpgs (play the story and do sidequests later)

Snow was the only character except for Sazh that had some sort of character development I cared at all about. The whole thing about him putting up a hero façade while getting loads of people seriously hurt or killed by his antics, only to trick himself into believing that the casualties don't matter since that's what heroes do, was one of the few compelling parts of the game for me.

Everything else about his character though, like his romance plot, I don't care at all

Snow had a hard life.

Pretty much this. It's a low-tier FF IMO but I still enjoyed it.

Can we all agree MMO shit killed FF?

Can't be coincidence all the games before 11 were great and every after is shit, clearly they're wasting all their resources on this bullshit.

FF15 was literally a 20 hour game with no plot, this is the series that made FF4 the game that started JRPGs having proper plot and characters.

Hironobu Sakaguchi needs to come back to FF not only has FF been shit without him but he's been shit without FF going from blue dragon to fucking shitty card mobile phone games.

i honestly thought the story was a lot better than people said it was. imo the characters and story was the best part.

XIII was my first FF. I liked it but knew Sup Forums kept shitting on it. So I tried X.

Holy fuck, Sup Forums is wrong about everything! X is the true borefest corridor simulator with ZERO interesting characters!

ff11 was great as far as i'm concerned, even XII was passable. sakaguchi was involved with both. it's been shit since he left and since square merged with enix. these are the two deciding factors, not online.

I like them both, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think that X's story and characters aren't much better than XIII's.

Nah I liked the end better too. Everyone shits on chapter 13 but I enjoyed it. I disagree about characters though. XV's didn't develop as much as XIII's but they were at least mostly likeable. Outside of Sazh nobody in XIII was likeable. They generally got better in the sequels although Lightning was ruined. I still think LR is the best but XV is better than the other two.

>Series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi was disappointed by Matsuno's departure and declined to play the game beyond its introduction.
He hates XII and had no involvement that I can see.

Yeah, regardless of how you feel about X, gotta admit the twist at the end was pretty cool.

Weird and doesn't make much sense if you think about it too much, but cool.

I liked XV but i don't talk about it here, saying you liked it on Sup Forums just ends badly

...

Lightning's legs

I don't think that it is a terrible game. Maybe I didn't like it more because I'm not that familiar with that kind of combat system and I didn't find the depth on it.

But yes, even being a casul, I didn't like that the game was so linear. I don't even know why they put a map. I just makes it more obvious.

It's just a coincidence. The chaos following Spirits Within [which pretty much forced the merge to happen] and the internal decision to deviate the games more and more from the basic formula are far more relevant causes than the MMOs. By all accounts I hear Final Fantasy XI has [had?] as good a story and world as any of the other Final Fantasy games.

X is the original sin for many of the problems people see with XIII, from the stronger focus to a dramatic, more personal story [although you could conceivably blame VIII for that, but that problem wasn't present in IX], stripping the games of its overworld and doing away with the obfuscation of linearity it provided. X's gameplay is not as big a break as the one in XIII though.

It has among standard battle themes in the series and the combat is pretty flashy and dynamic to watch.

Thats all the good I can day about it though. Its barely a FF game at all.

The one thing that matters in a game - gameplay - was amazing. Therefore, it was an amazing game.

>The chaos following Spirits Within [which pretty much forced the merge to happen]
It's the complete opposite. The merger had already been planned for long beforehand, the movie bombing almost made Enix not go through with it and caused it to take longer than originally planned

>the movie bombing
Why did it bomb, was it just bad?

You wouldnt know good gameplay if played hopscotch, faggit

I liked the battle system, but 70% of the game is like a tutorial.

It didn't look like Final Fantasy, had way too large a budget, and was a mediocre film that reviewed poorly.

Best gameplay, visuals, soundtrack and post-game content out of any Final Fantasy games. It's arguably the only good Final Fantasy game.

Wishlist?

At this point I'll settle for it being an actual complete game with a complete story like they used to make. Even if they turn the damn thing into a first person shooter.

I thought it was pretty okay, definitely a lighter take on the jRPG genre but nothing offensively bad imo
the worst parts were no freerun within the battle system which was fucking stupid and the linear level design, which was weird for FF but certainly not unheard of if you've ever played a modern SE jRPG

I-is... Is this bait?

For Nomura to resign

C-can... you prove me wrong?

For me both games design is pretty rigid.

I find the start of FFXIII pretty awful and restrictive, it's kinda like they wanted you to try roles and combinations before giving you freedom of experimenting with them. It's painful to restart the game due to not having any option to play the game like you want until half of the game. Also level caps tied to the story made the combat selection of roles and combinations limited.

FFXV in the other hand is pretty restrictive about your movement in the open world, invisible walls everywhere and the world was pretty uninspired. After chapter 8 the game becomes linear and restrictive about what you can do making it boring.

I kinda like XV more than XIII if only due to being somewhat amused at the start of the game and outright hating a lot of stuff in FFXIII trilogy including its characters (especially lightning). I feel XV is just outright meh, while XIII is bad.

I'd say they're roughly equal overall(which is to say, not that good), but for totally different reasons. So basically Also obviously this is totally subjective but XIII did indeed "feel" more like a Final Fantasy to me despite XV going out of its way to nostalgiabait every waking second.

>I feel XV is just outright meh, while XIII is bad.
It's literally the opposite though.

I like lightning and the girl with the spear. Everyone else is shit. The "open world" part is shit. Dropped after 50 hours.

>this meme again

>Thinking it's a meme

X's ending is like an inverse bell curve. If you don't think at all, it's a straightforward "aw he died" tragic ending. If you think about it a bit, it's very confusing and leaves a lot of threads unresolved. If you think about a lot, read between the lines, and look at all the ultimanias etc. it makes sense again and is quite interesting. With a bit of refinement FFX could be GOAT storywise.

XII could be even better but it requires a much more extensive reworking, to the point where it'd arguably be a different story

Wasn't one of the engine leads on XV scalped from Sega?

>Monster and Boss designs are cool
>game is very pretty
>Combat could be considered alright

To bad Lightning is a soulless husk in the later games

That's more than enough to beat the game having seen every cutscene

It's just my opinion man, for me to consider XIII better than XV it would need to:
>have access to all the roles early and no level cap(early games give shit experience points)
>being able to revisit areas in the game
>combat-wise let me modify my paradigms during combat
>character-wise make me not want to kill the characters

I want to suck Fang and Vanille's feet, not kill them.

I AM BARTHANDELUS
LORD SOVEREIGN OF THE PULSE FAL'CIE

youtube.com/watch?v=Ag-cRmiMWkk

Hiroyuki Ito.

>how few doujins FF15 is getting
You are just out of main audience.

Say what you like about the game but he was fantastic, hard as fuck too.
>The faces on his shoulders are singing this during the fight

>pulse fal'cie

>Oh child, perish the thought. I am more than that! I am fal'Cie. My name is Barthandelus.
Top 5 FF moments to be quite honest.

What is the memes about lightning's ass?

Whoops Its been a while

Honestly, I didn't like XIII when it first came out. And now I'm faced with deja vu as I didn't really like XV either, but after playing through XV I actually have new-found respect for XIII.

Story and soundtrack are top fucking tier.
Everything else is bad.

LR has one of the worst songs to ever come out of an FF game

m.youtube.com/watch?v=xO8DzhYNFYI

>her ass while riding a chocobo
>myboner.jpg

P-p-p-pics please?

The FF cycle is real

...

After XV I have no interest in the FF series. Kind of sad actually since 6 7 and 9 are some of my favorite video games ever

ok yeah that was pretty bad, but the rest of OST is really good, so i can forgive it.

>worst FF song
>not that bonkers metal chocobo theme from XIII-2

>Kind of sad actually since 6 7 and 9 are some of my favorite video games ever
At least you have the VII Remake to look forward to!
