>retro games on LCD
Why is this not against the law?
>retro games on LCD
Why is this not against the law?
stop me from buying a framemiester
what the fuck is that?
I could be mistaken, but that looks like Super Metroid for the SNES.
Because I don't live in EU. :^)
Wrong, it's for the super famicom
It says SNES on it, jeezs.
great looking monitor. really.
>PVMeme
...
I wish I could play na games on JP sfc
I always hated how blurry and shitty everything looked on crts growing up, and buying a new lcd changed how I see media forever. Now you faggots want me to go back to everything being blurry and shitty to play all the games I love even though I have them looking crisp and clear now?
>But the intro to the arcade Contra looks really good in CRT!
The arcade version of Contra SUCKS
You're fucking retarded
I love the sound of a CRT turning on. That's about where that meme ends
>not just buying a WEGA
kek
Because the inconvenience outweighs the benefits
Too expensive and space consuming to replay stuff I've already played a million times.
I would like to get a nice dedicated retro corner if I ever get a house.
Old video games look weird without the small break in sprites or text
Tbh I played chrono trigger on an actual snes through my flat screen and it didn't look bad at all.
I really don't see the problem, looks great, also in third world CRT monitors are common, i have like 5 in perfect condition, but they are too big to move around every time i want to play
don't know why but with genesis it happens the same, doesn't look bad at all even on high resolution TVs, PS2 does look horrible and blurry though
how did u get ur microwave to display the screen like that?
The old console systems exploited the TV refresh rates and scanlines to achieve the desired effects. You totally lose those on a LCD screen. A lot of games, Streets of Rage 2 as an example, look worse on LCD because the dithering effects used to simulate transparency dont get bled properly and you just get a checkerboard of pixels that you were supposed to even be aware of.
Only on Sup Forums will you find fuckers autistic enough to care about this shit.
It's okay though, I love this place for that as I'm the same desu
>Owns a laserdisc
>Owns a VCR with VHS tapes
>Owns a PVM AND a BVM & runs it all through RGB
>Won't buy a game unless they can own a physical copy
>Picks up Vinyl Records & cassette tapes too because fuck you that's why
>Restores arcade cabinets
>Owns a flash cart for every system
I wish I could meet a person like this, but they either don't exist or all are insufferable fagots. I would settle with a cute girlfriend who's into horror movies on VHS, honest I would.
So are you too poor to own one or too weak to lift one? It's always one or the other. And yes, "not having the room" counts as being poor.
>I always hated how blurry and shitty everything looked on crts growing up
Same, then I found out there were consumer grade models & Jipped.
>Too expensive and space consuming
Every fucking topic, without fail.
Perfection.
I never use to like shadowmask sets, but there's a certain charm to them if you're playing in composite.
It's like $400-$500 for a device that will make your retro games look okay on a HDTV with input lag
You could do that or just buy a retropie to play on your HDTV for only $100ish if you want them looking good on a big screen
PSX has checkerboarding/dithering artifacts out the ass on a ton of games on anything above composite, even on CRT. Its weird how completely non future proof 90s games were.
>CRT
>blurry
Maybe if you have an old ass 5 inch one from 1980 ment for camping.
All the 90's and early 2000's look great and sharp at any res these old consoles used, thats why you need a crt for old consoles. Also because converting from analog to digital in a modern tv causes latency.
>expensive
Unless you mean PMV, but any toshiba or sony from the late 90's-2005 look great.
Ok the only reason I'm asking is because it's hard as fuck to find a good one at a reasonable price, but can someone spoonfeed me a link to a great crt tv that doesn't cost an arm to buy?
>PVMeme cuck getting defensive
You want a 20M2MDU, they run from $300-$500. If you can't afford that then you shouldn't be playing videogames in the first place & should get back to work on sorting yourself out. Please keep in mind these are slowly creeping up in price, & may be $600 or more by year's end. You've been warned.
>hipsters actually spend hundreds of dollars on the PVM meme
>Didn't get multiple free PVMs from his dentist when they were throwing them away
I've got like 5 & they were all free. I don't have anything to defend since I don't have anything invested in them. If you can find one that's fine, if not that's fine too.
You can probably visit a goodwill and find any old CRT that will yield better results than a framemiester.
Sup Forums spends thousands on graphics cards & monitors.
Same shit.
I think you mean suckers pay that much for GPUs and monitors.
I don't know where any of you fucks live but I've spend days off visiting every second hand store in a 10 mile radius and never found one goddamn CRT TV. I'm convinced that the market has dried up and they've all either been taken or have been junked.
Or you can just use any PC monitor with an emu and run it at 240p 120Hz
>I want my games to look authentic! The way they were designed to be played!
>buys an outrageously expensive CRT monitor with technology that wasn't used in normal consumer TVs the games were made for
>Buying into The graphical Jew
>Fell for The Cathode Ray Jew
>Anything I don't like is a meme
I know you guys are all children & I'm literally talking to teenagers here, but you guys need to start forming your own opinions.
>They can't call my opinion shit if I don't have one
Is that a girl(male)?
My opinion is simple, if you spend hundreds of dollars on something you could get for free or thousands on something you could get for hundreds, you are a class A sucker.
No, it's a girl(female).
Not quite as good as boy(female) but leagues above what you're asking about.
Irreverent because they were designed on that outrageously expensive equipment. Just because the general public didn't have it doesn't mean the devs didn't.
It's fine as long as you get your CRT for free? Well I'm glad that argument's settled.
That's gay
>playing modern games on LCD
>why is this not against the law
outside of the uk there aren't many regulations on how you use your tv
Im suprised TV liscense is a thing. Sounds dumb as fuck. Course the UK sure does love the BBC
Being smart is now gay?
>is NOW
It's been gay Nerd. Go hug a book.
>emulating n64 and Playstation games with an internal resolution hack to 1080p
Can I play sixth gen consoles on that thing?
you'll never see a decent argument against this
>Being too poor for a U.S. release of Super Metroid
>Playing any games not on LSD
It's like you guys aren't even attempting to get your initiation in shamanhood or something.
Once you get some BNC cables you can use component cables on it. You need at least 3 for video (red green blue) & one for audio. It's got two line ins on the back so you might want 6 in case you want two things plugged in at once.
amazon.com
You might also want to put caps on the RGB out to town down the RGB levels too.
There's a dozen CRTs available on craigslist any given day, 5 of which are always Trinitrons
You don't have $50? Jesus chirst Sup Forums. What the hell do you guys even do for money?
...
Christ user, you gotta do all this shit? Is this worth all the trouble you have to go through?
No.
The quality difference between Composite and S-Video is enormous, but going from S-Video to Component/RGB/SCART is only notable for videophile turbo-autists
Each BNC connector is like $1.00, you need 3 or 4. How fucking poor are you? Are you fucking serious?
It's not the price you fucking moron, I'm talking about the amount of fucking shit you need to do
user-kun, don't buy buy buy
If you do you'll die die die
1: Order some bnc connectors
2: open the package the mailman left at your front door
3: Some Third Thing
4: Walk to ALLLLL the way back to your TV
5: Plug in bnc connectors
6: plug in your component cables
7: Play your game
8: Kill yourself
The Goodwill and Habitat stores around here junked all their TVs about a year and a half ago.
Shame too as my old CRT from 1998 finally started to show signs of dying and I need one for my old consoles.
>The last CRT I had was a 30" with the best picture and built-in speakers
>Left it at my parent's when I joined the Navy
>They let their place become a roach infested shithole
>My TV was filled to the brim with thise tiny cocksuckers
>"It's just an old TV, user, damn. Get an LCD like everyone else"
Thanks user, you just convinced someone to buy this. Next time don't act so pretentious tho, MMKAY?
>Joining the navy
That's where you fucked up user
I actually just got out with 70% disability. I'm literally set for life.
i want acid so bad. i want to see if im actually really gay for BBC
I guess, just be sure you order the safest shipping humanly possible. These things break all the time in the mail. Get one locally if at all possible. You also might want to get some 75 ohm terminators to cap off the unused RGB outs. (it might get too bright if they're not covered)
amazon.com
Are you only planning to play 6th gen games on it? How are you going to get audio out of your systems? You have an amp & some speakers right?
>looking like shit is not a decent argument
it looks exactly the same as on TV
Hoping to play Sega Saturn, Super Nintendo, Gamecube and PS2 on it. Is the audio on the TV not that great or something? Because I was just planning to use that. Sorry for being such a helpless faggot but what speakers do you recommend?
Thanks user you're the fucking best god bless you
>too lazy to find trinitron or other overly good crt
>too lazy to get s-video or RGB cables or mods
RCA + whatever Hitachi TV with only RCA input master race
1. Genesis can't do svideo. At least get stereo out of the headphone jack.
2. Snes, 64, and cube all use the same cable, $10 at most on eBay.
3. Fatal Labyrinth is dope.
>tfw PALcuck
>tfw 50Hz
Gross.
Might as well use RF while you're at it.
>Hoping to play Sega Saturn, Super Nintendo,
Those don't do component. You can get RGB out of them though. To do that you need one of these & then A Euro Scart cable for each system you want o get RGB out of. If you just want to use those systems for composite video or S-Video though you could. I don't see why you would want to buy an RGB monitor & not play in RGB though. The PS2 does RGB too, component cables on a gamecube are fucking expensive though so I would just use a wii if I were you.
TLDR: If you want to get the best video possible out f your 6th gen games down you need more cables.
>1. Genesis can't do svideo. At least get stereo out of the headphone jack.
I have it, I'm not THAT lazy. I just have 10 other systems hooked up to that tv, only non RCA cable I have is component for PS2, but I dislike how 3D games look on LCD, so use RCA for same tv.
>2. Snes, 64, and cube all use the same cable, $10 at most on eBay.
well I don't have TV with RGB/S-Video input so what the point? But will take it into consideration
>3. Fatal Labyrinth is dope.
yep, digging it so far, been awhile I've seen rougelike with overeating as death sentence
I'm too, hardly stops actually. Most of my systems are NTSC, the problem is that image is a bit cropped vertically.
I'm not a barbarian
>defensive PVMeme cuck using reddit spacing
Okay, thanks again, one last thing, what speakers do you recommend and do I need another cable to set them up?
These are the speakers I use, they're pretty nice. Go to any pawn shop & shop around though. You can get some cheap speakers that way. What kind of amp are you using?
>irreverent
yeah definitely listen to this guy
>not just emulating with 4xHQ filters
Plebs.
>emulating
>calling other plebs
right back at ya, kiddo
>just using the CRT I've had since I was six
>filters
>scanline / CRT filters for PS1 era
okay
>"Ultra HD Upscale X4 filter" for anything
not okay
Op... have my babies please!
>headphone jack built into the front of the TV
Fucking Nice.
This looks objectively better than pixellation.
lookin good
>scanline / CRT filters
These make the picture objectively worse. Buncha technophobes here.
>posts picture of Sony BVM with an image nearly as far removed from period accuracy as an LCD
I guess if all you want is razor sharp 1:1 ratio pixels they're pretty good but I like some stank on my retro games so I just play on an old shitty JVC CGA monitor through composite.
>visiting parent's house for the summer
>find old CRT tv in the garage
>set it up with my old ps2 and replay Silent Hill 1-4 and MGS 1-3
