outside of mombaiting, I think the main reason I'm into video games is because my mom and aunt coached me through playing Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask when I was younger. Zelda is the only IP they know and care about. As I grew up they bought only nintendo consoles and titles, so I played a lot of Luigi's Mansion, Wario World, and Melee with my mom.

We don't really have the chance to play anymore because we're kind of far away but when I went to visit last year I found an N64 hooked up to a little CRT by her bed. My childhood copy of Ocarina was slotted in, so I turned it on. She started and 100%'ed a new save file in the first save slot but my old save from years back was still in slot 2 just after the water temple.

Before we had a memory card for our PS2, we had to leave it on all the time to get through games. I remember my mom sneaking into my room at night to play Frogger: the Great Quest sometimes. I miss her.

She spent several years being dismissive of some problems I had that completely fucked me up and ruined my life, and now she wants to pretend that she's my friend. She also wants me to get married so she can treat her daughter-in-law as a substitute daughter because she's upset that she had two sons and no daughters. She doesn't care about *me*, she cares about her *vision* of me, her *plan* for me. So I don't care to speak to her. I'm not going to get what I want out of my life, but she's not going to get what she wants out of my life either.

Also, I don't really have a good explanation for this, but I feel like I'm not comfortable being part of a family. Somehow I just don't like the idea of being someone's son, brother, or whatever. I don't know why. Maybe it's just because I'm fucked up.

My mom and I used to play the original Animal Crossing on Gamecube. We each had our own character in the town.

We'd send mail to each other with stupid in-game jokes about the villagers.

We'd leave scavenger hunts for the other person to find, leading to buried bells, or fossils.

We'd play pranks on each other, like playing as the other person's character and turning all their furniture backwards in their house.

Those are some of my favorite gaming moments.
