I never played this. What's the best way to play this in 2017?

Probably with Dolphin.
That's a good choice you made here user. When this game came out back in the gamecube days, it was stunning.
Dolphin with original GameCube controls.
If you're a pussy ass bitch and can't get over tank controls play the trilogy version (again on dolphin) with M&KB.
It's trash, baby's first cawadooty
Wii version from the trilogy. Aiming with the wiimote is top. So, go with Dolphin and map the aiming with the mouse, if you don't have a wiimote.
This. Wii version is best version.

Unfortunately, it was. Nowadays it feels comfy, well-made and all that but all magic is lost, because lots of its ideas were copied by everyone.
>play on a regular GCN, enjoying the most authentic Metroid Prime experience on original hardware
>grab the Trilogy version and play on Wii U, enjoying Motion Controls (which is a good thing in this case) and some pseudo-HD
>emulate the GCN version with wide-screen hack using whatever controller you feel like, possibly even an original GCN controller, playing Metroid Prime at 1080p
>emulate the Trilogy version (no widescreen hack needed) with proper Mouse + Keyboard controls at 1080p
Really, there's no "wrong" way to play Prime. It's a great game and you'll enjoy it on any platform.
I was in the last stretch in the Wii version, but after years without playing I was thinking about starting from new and then someone make a thread here on Sup Forums, stop reading my mind.
I'm tempted to play in Dolphin, but I love to aim with the wiimote.
before some retard comes out of nowhere and asks the same damn question that's posted in every metroid thread, here's your answer:
no. this will not be the year. fuck off.
Don't play the trilogy version, if possible. The menu screens and music are amazing, and a part of the 'experience.' Trilogy version uses its own menu for all 3 games.
on a classic Wii with a gamecube controller and a component cable for HD
You can connect the Wiimote via bluetooth to your PC and use it to play Metroid Prime Trilogy emulated in dolphin.
A similar experience can be gained by playing Metroid Prime Trilogy emulated in dolphin using Mouse + Keyboard controls, using a FPS-like control scheme.
Good idea too.
4k 60 fps emulator is the only way to go.
Did it recently, best experience in vidya in a long time. Game is still god tier more than a decade later.
...
i'm enjoying the fuck out of it right now on a 2k screen and original GC controler, thank fuck dolphin, the game is really good
Looks really good, holy shit
Don't as it is overrated garbage.
Just youtube the important stuff, it's pretty boring to actually play.
>Comparing Metroid Prime to Call of Duty
Imagine being this gay.
Not OP, but I had no idea you could replicate mouse/keyboard controls with Trilogy on Dolphin for this.
I am totally doing this.
On original hardware, user. It's the only way to get the true experience. Metroid Prime is a great game, the controls are little outdated but you get use to them quick. Otherwise, the game is fucking fantastic, and really starts to pick up in the second half.
Speaking as someone who got the original near launch: Wii control version irons out a lot of what might frustrate newcomers to this game, if you intend to replay it get the first NTSC Gamecube release tho, lots of relatively easy sequence breaking glitches.
On Wii/U, either pirating it or purchasing it on the eShop. It probably has the best use of the Wiimote of its generation.
It's on the wii u
