Listening back on this and a couple other battle themes, I realize this and Goemon N64 were probably my first introduction to "anime music" long before I actually got into anime itself. Goemon is self-explanatory and I guess the melodic, note-dense composition of the Grandia battle themes resembles something you could set Japanese lyrics to. The mid-boss theme even reminded me of Sailor Moon for some reason and I've never watched that show to this day.
