Devil's Third has good boss fights, which RE still doesn't have. RE at it's core is still the shitty game that NG3 was, just with a padded coating that doesn't actually fix the foundation. Much like DMC4SE.
Also the (dead) multiplayer was incredible.

NGB wasn't "open world" you moron, it just had a more non-linear setting like the Devil May Cry games.
Also those things served well to break up the action. NG2, for all its improvements in the combat system, always felt like a lesser game for being completely linear and having several point of no-return areas, mid-chapter even.
Hopefully soon now that KT has a decent idea on how to handle PC ports
I feel like they're fucked though in terms of which versions to port, people are going to lose their shit no matter which ones get brought over.
PC ports would probably just end up being the garbage Sigma versions. Best to hold out for 360 emulation at this point.

Except breaking up the action with a bit of platforming and puzzle-solving is necessary for these types of games. Just look at Razor's Edge. Nothing but wave of enemy after enemy and that shit wore down on you quick.

I do hate the movement in DMC. Your choices for getting from a to be are either slow-ass jog, hopping like a retard or spamming trickster dodge, which has too long of a recovery time to be as quick as I want it to be and stinger sends anything that's not huge flying away from you.

That implies that devil's third moveset is at least as good as NG2 which RE pretty much copies wholesale and the enemies have an AI.
The only thing DT has an edge on is bossfights because NG3's are shit and RE never bothered fixing that.

360 games will age just fine because it was the first hd console. the game has a clean look with a lot of visual variety and effects and chaos going on at once. the slicing and splattering effects in particular are top notch. and it upscales just fine. remember, you play the game, not the graphics or resolution
I fucking hate how ugly and messy NG3:RE's art style is. It lacks the visual flair and more 'clean' look of NG2. It's definitely the much more impressive game, considering the time it came out on.
Played a lot of action games in my life, but NG2 is definitely my all-time favorite. The limb severing mechanic led to some extremely interesting fights and strategy.
Too bad NGSigma2 ruined the game. I would have liked to be able to play NG2 on my PS3.
I think NG3 has that artstyle because the story is all "IS RYU TRULY A HERO?". Which is fine, the story was good and all, but who the fuck plays an action game to get moral dilemma?
But the platforming legitimately sucks in that game. Probably would've been better if they nixed those sections and focus on what the game does best, which is visceral fast paced action.

we dont talk about ng3 here. but i agree, the art style shift looked really cheesy, same with the messy menu designs. in game it looked decent, but i wouldnt call it an improvement over 2. i just really like ryus model and the girls models in 2, plus the venice area, the hell, the jungle, the airship. the game just looks sharp and clean, idk shit about art but it has a very iconic look.

In addition to the game changes, I could never get used to ps3 controller. The ps1, 2 and 3 controllers are the worst controllers i have ever used. Only handlets or cripples could call it comfortable i feel like. If you told me to play ng2 with a dualshock id laugh in your face

Yeah the ps4 controller is fine, its bigger, has triggers, the sticks are better. I could use it with no complaints. Still prefer 360 and one controllers though
After approximately a year of somewhat tame use, my left joystick has problems registering when I move left or do diagonal movement, and the triggers have become squeaky, and I didn't really treated the controller badly or anything.
Maybe my case is just an exception, but it has left me feeling sour about the controller.
It just controls and plays so wildly different from anything else I've played. I didn't really have the patience to learn it. Shame since I find the hokeyness of it super charming. I love all the character interactions and cut scenes. In fact it's the only game I've ever watched a let's play of. Really entertaining to watch someone that knows what they're doing.

I know what you mean about the quality. Both the LT and RT triggers on mine broke and dont fully register. And the stick is torn up to hell. So it may be built badly, but the actual shape and feel of it, its alright. Notciable improvement over the last 3
