Mario 64 DS was a good remake

...

It was, but for some reason I find it outright boring compared to the original.

I can start up Mario 64 and play for hours. It's my comfy game.

I start up 64 DS, play for like 10 minutes, and I'm bored as fuck. I have no idea why.

it doesn't play the same

Yes it does. You move, you jump, you punch.

Unless you mean power-ups and extra characters.

No it isn't, it plays like shit and it splits up Mario's powerups between useless extra characters

>playing Mario 64 with a d-pad

So then Street Fighter plays just like Mario 64. You move, you jump, you punch. Same game.
Don't play dumb, it's not cute.

no it doesn't. you have limited directional movement compared to the original.

>perfect analog movement right out of the gate
>Stick it on a D-Pad

Yeah, good remake

The only thing DS did right was all the extra minigames.

Wario played like a gimped Mario. His jumps are pathetic, his speed is too low, and his strength is underutilized.
Luigi's jumps made the game too easy (on top of that, DS was made easier than 64).
Dividing Mario's abilities among the characters and giving him the useless P-Balloon power-up wasn't a good trade-off.
The new levels are tiny.
Silver stars are marked on your map, removing any sense of accomplishment you'd get from finding them on your own.
64 can be emulated on some portable devices, so the DS version doesn't even have that.
Playing on a 3DS doesn't magically convert digital input to analog, so don't even bring that up.

Face it, you only wank over Luigi's casino.

who here tried to use the stylus for the majority of the game

>perfect analog movement right out of the gate

>perfect
>takes trying to turn on a dime makes you skid like 5 feet even when you haven't had any momentum built up

How far did you ever get?

For me it's the "walkas the default, hold a button to run" carried over from the 2D Marios. Makes everything feel more sluggish when he can't even break into a run as freely as the original. I'm surprised they didn't even have an "original control" setup and have the button press make him walk for more precarious situations.

>Skid 5 feet
If it's a sharp turn he does a little skid animation in place to change directions. This also makes it so you can do a somersault. If you're running forward, then move the stick in any other direction while it's still fully out, so you're not switching directions sharply, you won't skid. The kind of analog movement you want sounds like how Sonic Adventure plays.

Nah, the physics feel pretty different. It was understandably done to bare with the lack of a analog stick though. Personally I feel the difference in movement & control really tarnishes the fun but I don't find the remake is bad, the new stars & ideas were fun after all.

People really have to stop acting like it's great or awful when it's just a fine remake that succeeds in some areas & fails in others, preferring one or the other is completely understandable, even down to designs of enemies.

Original is better because of the way DS controls.
N64 physics were better suited for the games levels because it was made for analog movement while they had to limit it with the ds because of the d-pad so things feel more sluggish.
Should have released it on 3DS

Besides, arent the minigames also in other mario ds games?

Yes, New Super Mario Bros. DS also has some of them.

Good remake, atrocious controls

Nah, you're high friendo. Taking a game meant to show off the possibilities of the analog stick and slapping it on a console without one proves Miyamoto has completely lost his edge. Gimping the game is not a valid response to that problem either.

Naw son

that shit was not long enough to be viable
good idea, but it sucked to use

64 was basically built out of sensitive movement and 360 control.Yes I know you never actually needed to crawl but ow many stars can you cheese with the side somersault?

If they made it on Gamecube and tried to keep the weird fucking dreamlike style of the original, it would have been good.
It also gave us the Yoshi on the right, when the superior Yoshi on the left is the one from the original Super Mario 64.

ha ha

>SO LONG GAY BOWSER

It ain't easy being a Yoshi enthusiast.
Either you'll get attention from hoards of people that wanna fuck it, or people will assume you wanna fuck it.
At least the haha thing is funny.

It was. The d-pad controls are off-putting and literally the only problem with the game, but you can easily learn to work with them. Honestly, if Nintendo remade it for the Switch and released it during E3 to tide people over until Mario Odyssey, that would be an incredible PR move

>he never played Metroid Prime:Hunters online
I wrecked everyone using that thumb nub to aim.

The lack of free movement, analogue control ,and a run button makes the game feel much more sluggish and restrictive. The slopes also feel a lot more slippery too, atleast to me.

It would have been an awesome remake if they waited for the 3DS so you'd have a fucking analog stick instead of using the D-pad and the stylus to move around. Fucking fuck.

At least it's not as bad as Metroid Prime Hunters' controls, holy fuck.
