Why the hell is this shitty business model getting into every game out there? Is microtransaction lootbox bullshit the future for all multiplayer games?
Why the hell is this shitty business model getting into every game out there...

It's profitable. Insanely profitable, in fact.
They're taking money from the indians and their casinos. Blizz needs to be stopped.
You'd be amazed how much Gamers will spend when completion is on the line.
Cant miss even one event skin, gotta have em all.
I don't know why people get butthurt over this.
None of the stuff from loot boxes make you better at the game. It's a way for people to get cosmetics randomly, with and without paying. Besides, it's not a shitty model if it gets them more money so they can keep adding new content.
Yes.
How insightful.
I think OW did it pretty well, you can just play the game to get boxes and they don't require keys that can only be bough with actual money. On top of that you can get everything with ingame gold, way better model than say Valves money grubbing shit and it's all purely cosmetic
Was this in fact created by Valve?
Its gambling. The bonuses are not handed to you directly; if you're after something concrete, you are sure to buy more than one pack because random; the item destribution you are getting may cause you to try a different character/deck/whatever, because you got something for this particular side of the game you may spend your time on this game more.
literally what is wrong with cosmetic microtransactions? The quality of the game itself is no better or worse for them. It only becomes a problem when it actually starts affecting balance.
I don't play any of these games with loot boxes. are they like scam gachas that korean and jap games have had for years?
This, let some dipshit spend their money and keep the game alive and updated for me to enjoy.
Well Valve doesn't make games anymore, for starters
Due to steam not hats.
The way its being done is gross, though.
Sure you can have the game dripfeed you random content for hours of playtime, or you could always just bypass that entirely and buy the shit. It's the same shit you see in mobile games that force you to wait a fucking day for a recharge, except that they have the excuse of 'cosmetics' that you don't HAVE to get to play.
Problem with that is that everyone wants cosmetics, save the special snowflakes who don't give a fuck, and the lootbox system is designed from the ground up to make being wrenched of your money an appealing alternative.
What more insight do you need? Gambling is one of the oldest games in existence, gaming just found an easy model applying it to exploit and drain peoples money with.
It would be "okay" if the game was free to play.
But it isnt.
The game cost 40 bucks on pc and 60 on console, it shouldnt have any type of microtransation at all.
So how much have you spent on loot boxes?
Its the same way I could just grow a tobacco plant and roll my own cigs, or I could just go out and buy them instantly
Thanks japaneses mobiles with gacha for this.
>The snowflakes are the ones who don't want gaudy cosmetics
how long until this is banned?
blizzard are basically running a parallel currency
Are you telling me game designers and artists have any relevant jobs in the Steam department
>Shitty business model
I don't think you know what that means
It's clearly very successful, hence why it's spreading so far
>japanese mobile games
Fixed,
Because it is stupidly successful in mobile devices. You need to absolutely hate money to ignore a gold mine right in front of you.
>Problem with that is that everyone wants cosmetics, save the special snowflakes who don't give a fuck
Lmao you autist. Did you know that the majority don't pay for cosmetics because they aren't stupid. The reason it's so profitable is because autists (like you) spend about 10x as much as one person should do
What's really disgusting is that Overwatch is not even F2P but rather a full priced game, and features one of the most exploitative microtransaction models I've ever seen.
What I think is crazy is that this shit flies in the face of classical economics. There's no supply curve because they're just pixels that get invented out of thin air.
It still makes me mad.
>open anniversary box
>get two legendaries
>one is just gold, the other is a regular legend soldier skin that i have already
Thanks. Like they couldn't remove the regular skins just for the duration of the event at least? They basically only do this just to fuck people.
Accept the new norm
Boy you need to finish your degree before you open your mouth again
Low dev effort. You throw fucking sprays, emotes, voice lines, fucking poses and then skins. People mostly want skins, you use everything else to dilute it so much they have to grind for what they want.
When I buy a $60 game, I'd rather not have to play for an indeterminate amount of time to unlock all of the content
This, gacha market is all about fishing whales, the 5% that is willing to waste hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars per event to get all the new fancy shit. People that don't buy gacha shit or just waste a few dollars on a box or two are just there to populate the game for these whales.
Multiplayer is utterly dead. Too many cancerous trends stacked on top of each other. At least there are still a few single player games per year that are just good for what they are.
ITT: People who have never heard of gambling before
Do you think people would complain if a part of the 60$ Overwatch package was getting better lootboxes?
You're not very smart, are you?
>this delusion
protip: classical economics never accurately described reality to begin with
not really, it's more like you have to grow your own tobacco one cigarettes worth at a time.
holy shit is that mike ross
>literally what is wrong with cosmetic microtransactions?
Nothing, that is if they let you buy what you want. This "throw us 10 bucks and MAYBEEE you'll get something that doesn't make you vomit" is disgusting and needs to go
Because toy companies have been doing it for decades now, and the manchild numbers are through the roof nowadays.
Be honest, if you were able to customize your body in real life and specific traits could only be unlocked through loot boxes, wouldn't you invest on them? From the V shape to the 8 inch can thick cock, to the extra extra amount of bodyhair for the bearmode look, or maybe no hair at all for the trap look, wouldn't you invest either your money or your time in unlocking those?
Well take for instance Dota 2. At first even had some story to begin with, that was started with the first tutorial phase. Now they just don't give a shit anymore, it's just more hats, compendiums and chests. The only thing they've done with the story, was an excuse to add more Arcanas.
Fuck this shit.
Mankind should never have access to these powers. Or maybe they should, and being "natural" will become all the new hipsterism.
Why don't you just buy boxes until you get what you want like everyone else in the world? Don't hate a system that's not broken. Just put enough money into it until you get everything you want.
Literally the same, but hey, you don't really need to buy them so it's OK that they waste this work spended in utterly shitty skins instead of adding more stuff to the game.
As long it means nor paying for map packs , I like it
Well you wanted to know faggot
There's your fucking answer, and it's the motivation for fucking everything in modern society you dumb stupid fucking retard moron faggot nigger piece of nigger
I've been enjoying paladins for free, its a great model
artists dont magically start working on coding and game design if blizzard removes cosmetics from the game. You should be glad this shit exists so stuff like Dota and other games are free. You dont have to surrender to the gacha scamming, just let the other whales pay for everyone else/
Soon enough asian parents will be able to choose a lot more than just appearance for their children, I don't see how you picking your own is unreasonable.
casual genetic modification is basically playing god. Your average man should not have access to this sort of power, it would ruin us.
Why do people get mad over this and not the absolute jew fest valve has turned dota into over the past 4 years.
>buy our compendium for 9.99 and gain levels for rewards!
>dont have time buy levels for 19.99!
>buy this chest that contains previously extremely rare items from previous internationals so we can make money off them again while tanking their value for people that already have them!
>Buy these chests that contain new sets that you cant buy on the market anymore even though they are the most common kind but we trade lock them now so you have to buy multiple to get the set you want!
>buy these old valuable sets for cheap in the store! Tanking their value for people that already had them!
>If somehow you still have something worth more than a few cents sell it on our market place so we can take a 10% cut!
I used to do a lot of trading and even though I stopped before all of this it still makes me asspained.
Cosmetics was just the start of it. In the case of Overwatch, new content is now being designed and made limited time so they can sell loot boxes. I can understand the holiday things being limited as its a seasonal thing, but things like the Uprising event had zero reason to be a limited time event.
Im not op and you are triggered, friendo.
>Why the hell is this shitty business model getting into every game out there?
"invisible hand of the free market" ensures the scummiest practices you can get away with will net your company more money than those who operate with more integrity and concern for customer satisfaction. we're in late-capitalism which means everyone has been too thoroughly trained to be a consumerist to just not buy anything if nothing available for sale is up to your standards in each given sector of the market.
>already have the V shape and 8 inch cock
Can I unlock the good mental health accessory?
I'm going to blow your fucking mind right now. People create businesses to make money.
how so?
Simultaneously gives people an incentive to keep playing AND makes it possible to milk money out of the obsessed.
Overwatch would have died long ago if not for loot boxes and events to keep people playing.
because it makes money
next question
>but bare minimum effort into lifting freeweights
>congrats you now have a v shape
There will be nothing left to god anymore. While curing genetic diseases is great, cosmetic free use of the practice is a terrifying concept. Man should never be given too much power as a rule.
and why not?
>$30 to randomize your cock
>.06% chance for horse dick
>99.94% for micropenis
God isn't real you fucking idiot
Stop using god as anything more than a parable for explaining ideals, it makes you look retarded
Games that include gambling elements which you can pay real money for should be banned for minors.
>playing a game for the gameplay now makes you a special snowflake
>not caring about cosmetics in a fucking FIRST PERSON shooter makes you a snowflake
I don't even like Overwatch and this triggered the fuck out of me
>want that Zen dance
>buy 10 because good goy
>only event related emote I got was the monkey shuffle
>no legos, tons of dupes
The bad thing is I didn't get jack shit, the good thing is I'm never doing that again
You still haven't given a good enough reason as to why not and God doesn't exist. People that are rich enough can already modify their appearance just fine today.
The fuckers dropped the loot % too took me 40 dollars for one fucking skin
Should've waited until the last day tbqh
Valve started it. Don't post Overwatch when Valve started it years ago.
TF2 had it first, which people began to copy.
>Playing a moba
>Unironically
???
You are retarded.
Other people subsidize your game play. It's better then you poors being mad about paying $100 for a game.
>Nothing, that is if they let you buy what you want.
Good thing that not only is that what Overwatch does, but you can in fact get everything you want without spending a cent of real money (besides the cost of the game itself).
Having to complete specific tasks/challenges to unlock specific shit is gone now because of it too, and it fucking pisses me off.
Take Halo 5 for example. Metric shit ton of armor and skins to unlock, but its infinitely less satisfying than unlocking armor in Halo 3, where despite there being only a handful to unlock, it meant something getting one.
The items don't give you an advantage and you can grind for the ones you specifically want. The money from the loot boxes gets more content made.
The only problem I have with the OW loot boxes is that even if you buy them there's no guarantee you'll get something good.
>Other people subsidize your game play.
Everyone pays for the game, dumbass. You can't even say that lootboxes pay for new "content" when all they've added is two game modes (both of which are so sloppy and unfinished that they're relegated to the "none of this shit matters" arcade tab), three maps and three characters.
It's literally gambling with real money in a videogame. Frankly I think it should be illegal considering the potential age range of players. Reminds me of that story about that chinese woman with a gambling addiction that literally blew all her money on the equivalent of loot boxes in some shitty mmo. This shit is a slippery slope.
>Spend money for a mere chance at items you can use at complete random and a much bigger chance of complete trash you don't want.
How do people justify spending actual money on this crap?
Would you rather pay $60 for a game up front and pay maybe 5-10 extra bucks for cosmetic skin packs whenever they get released, or pay $60 for a game and hope that you get what you want out of the lootboxes you may have to buy?
My problem with the system isn't that its "buy shit in-game," its that all that shit is randomized and you are guaranteed anything. OW does help this with credits, but the way they release event skins for triple cost makes it obvious that they're pushing really hard for people to have to buy lootboxes for cosmetics.
They're exploiting the "whales" who have zero self-control and spend hundreds/thousands of dollars on worthless crap. They make up 0.1% of the playerbase but ruin it for everyone else.
Probably referring to freefags who go "but I don't need costumes, I don't wanna buy this shit, lol whales complaining about spending money"
I don't want to miss out on the dances for characters I play often or the actually good skins and voice lines.
And I have the income to pay for my hobby so buying 50 lootboxes isn't a big deal at all.
Boy I sure hate a business model where the boxes are totally cosmetic and can be earned just by playing the game.
But Overwatch's lootbox system is great. Retards spend hundreds to get every item, which lets Blizzard release more game modes/events for free. I will literally never have to pay money for an expansion pack for Overwatch.
>an expansion pack for Overwatch.
>implying they'll ever release a large amount of meaningful content
Enjoy your slow trickle of small bits of content that are never worth the wait, nearly all new content is purely cosmetic.
You actually think this is going to stop them from releasing paid content? lol
>servers don't need maintenance or upgrades
>there have been no bug fixes or additional content
You act as if games are free to maintain like a dumb retard.
>inb4 all games should be 100% bug free
That's literally impossible, every single game released ever has had bugs. Even tennis for two, pong and pacman.
See above. At some point, someone is subsidizing your continued support for some game.
Because you always have those faggots that say but waifu skins XXXDDD
this. fuck off op
can't you just buy voice lines for super cheap with the dumb coins you get for duplicates?
wut
there is always a supply curve
