It's great. I don't care what you think about the actual game, but I've not seen any game near as aesthetic in just about everything as P5.

There's just way too much shit going on at once, it's really awful. I bet a blind man with downs syndrome could design a better menu without even trying.
It works. A bad menu would be one where picking what you want is unnecessarily complicated, in P5 you just move the cursor up or down.
Strangely enough, I feel that the boldness of the design makes it easily readable, but there is definitely a period needed to get used to it.
In the context of the game it's great. The phantom thieves are all about style and looking cool. Would be super out of place in almost anything ride though.

Easy to navigate and fun to watch the animations desu
You can also move the cursor and select options while the animations are playing which makes it much less annoying to savescum for gallows fusions

It took me a bit to get used to but once I did everything was easy to find, by the time I finished Kamoshida's palace I was navigating through the menus without even thinking about it. It helps that you only move through it vertically as opposed to having options spread all over the screen.
The part of the UI that should really be celebrated is in the combat. Having every single action just a button press away AND mapped to its own unique button is so much nicer and faster than having to scroll through a list.

When I saw this in one of the trailers back in 2015 I fell in love with the series at that instant. Persona 5's menus are a treasure, and I hope other developers are taking notes because goddamn its incredible design.

Everything from the menus to the loading screens oozes with style, it's fucking perfect.
this. the two main things you're gonna be focused on visually in a battle are your characters and the enemies, so it's only natural that the UI elements should be located near them. having them shoot out from your character is pretty genius

dont get me wrong, Persona has always had great presentation but the gameplay and functionality is tedious monotonous garbage in typical J non-rpg fashion.

You just have gripes with the genre then. Most JRPGs are repetitive after some hours, but at least Persona is kinda enough to give us a fast forward in most situations.
I'll say that P5 knew its audience and pandered fucking hard to them, hence the very high metacritic scores. Maximum self-insert faggotry, stylish visuals, and a mostly great OST is hard to resist to be honest.

The unskippable victory jog joker does after every battle. It's like seven seconds per fucking fight and there's no way to speed it up.
It's aesthetic as fuck but squarely mediocre as far as readability and instant recognition of words / prompts go, and the overall usability isn't any better than average.
So it looks great but it's pretty average practically.

It is excellent.
The only thing I think it needs is a quicker way to Save/Load rather then going into System down the bottom.

Yes, it is good menu design.
Everything is easily readable and pops out at you stylishly. The only thing you need from a menu is that it's not a cluttered cluster fuck and you can read and tab through whatever. P5's menus does this and does it with a stylish presentation that honestly wasn't needed. Every menu in this game puts other games menus to shame.

I'm playing P3P again after playing P5 and yea the 5's menus were pretty and nice. Most of them even had unique music. FeMC route is fun but the game feels very bland in retrospect.
