Dishonored

What do you think bout this game?
Never seen anything about it until yesterday, picked up the remaster or whatever edition there was with all DLC, on the 2nd mission and so far this is really fun.
Really tickles the "go find every little coin hidden in each corner of the world and complete the objectives without killing anything" completionist side of me.
The AI is a bit retarded at times but overall I think it's pretty neat, also the upgrades system is nice.

It's basically Thief meets Bioshock and I can't say no to that.

Heard there was a sequel too, might pick that up when I finish this one, which might not be soon since exploring every level for 10 hours until you find everything may take a bit to beat it.
It's really surprising no one's ever talking about this, is it really unpopular?
Did it get overshadowed by some other release at the time?
Because damn, this is great.

Great game, the story DLCs are great too, and so is the sequel.

It got hyped to hell and kind of a bit fell short, same the with the sequel.
Still a great game and the DLCs are good as well.

It was actually pretty successfully, fortunately.
The sequel, on the other hand... Just as good, but it sold like shit.

It's a great game, highly recommendable. The DLCs are top notch as well, arguably even better than the main game.

Well, I bought it, and decided to do a no kill run (basically meant no detection as well), and I found it to be so incredibly fucking frustrating I had to give up like 60% of the way through.

I swear, I had to reload saved in my 20 or so hours of playtime more than I ever had in all my of time playing stalker SOC and COP on master difficulty combined.

I just kept getting seen, enemies kept appearing out of seemingly nowhere, and it seemed like every little part of the game was out to get me. I could visualize what I had to do, and I generally COULD do it, but an enemy would always seem to turn around at in inopportune moment.

It seems like a lot of effort went into the game, but I just got far too frustrated to keep going.

I kind of enjoyed it but only because i limited myself to a non-violent non-detection playthrough without any powers except blink (and even that because the game would be literally impossible without blink).
Playing it like a retard version of Thief was kind enjoyable. Using all powers makes you simply too powerfull and drains the fun out of the game.

What were even the other powers in the game besides blink?
I only used that because iirc all the other shit was for killing.
it's been so long

Is the remaster better than the original?
What did they change?

Stopping Time or turning into a Rat at the top of my Head for example.

Time stop and blink let you just speed through huge areas at incredible high speeds without having to worry about anything.

>arbitrarily limiting yourself to a no kill challenge run on your first playthrough, instead of trying out and playing around with all the various options/tools you have on offer

Why do people do this? Does everyone hate fun?

Having a challenge is fun.

But that is more fun that just killing everything, that would be boring.

The OG Dishonored came out in 2012 for 360, ps3 and pc. The remaster is basically just the version that is on current generation consoles and comes bundled with the DLC. There aren't any discernible differences, except for rendering resolution on consoles.

I did it for the first one, but for 2 I'm just going with the flow of what I feel like.
Feels like I have less time now.

Don't be fooled if you hear laughter, or happen upon a smile. There is no lightness or merriment here.

Well I'm going to presume that you've never tried doing a violent playthrough, because playing it like a murder mayhem simulator is far more riveting than just blinking past everything and occasionally knocking out an asshole or two

Such laughter! And they are singing the old songs, linking arms. But that was from a happier time.

It would be a fun challenge if doing a no-kill no-power run wasn't also mind-numbingly easy.

I loved it (especially the Daud DLCs) and I thought the sequel was even better. The AI was improved and the level design was one of the best I've seen in years.

I wouldn't say it's unpopular, but it definitely doesn't get the same attention as most AAA titles. It's a first-person single player game that's not open world, so it has a smaller audience from the start.

This "killing is bad" thing was really bothering me, but user told me bad ending is better and that I must have fun with all available weapons and abilities at my disposal. Damn he was right. I maxed out rats and windblast for the first time and it' was super fucking fun.

No kill runs are too damn boring as theres nothing more to it than figuring out a pattern of where and when guards go and turn or where security cameras are looking. Its the same principle always, be it Dishonored, MGS or Deus Ex. Even in theory that shits nothing but tedious even worse than collectathons you need to be off the shallow end of the spectrum to find that stuff enjoyable.
Its like that movie Primer as in I theoretically get it and thats good enough I really dont need to map it all out let alone play through it.

No one really talks about it because its just a great game, not much else to say about it, really unique atmosphere

Someday this place will devour all the lights in the sky.

I don't know man, choking everyone was pretty fun for me. It pretty much forces you to take it slower and then you can really immerse yourself in the world and see all the details.

For both games I did a low chaos run first and took my time with it. For my second playthrough I just went full killing mode and that was fun too, but I'm not sure I would've appreciated the game as much if I just slaughetered everyone and just rushed through the game. Ghost runs can be fun too, mostly because it gives you the satisfaction of finishing levels without being detected. I would never do it on my first playthrough though, since it can be pretty frustrating (at least for me).

Somewhere in the basements below, hound kills hound, and money changes hands.

Such corruption! Such hypocrisy. Make me look on it no more!

Yeah, I really wonder why people do non-lethal runs in all those games.
Gee user I wonder, is it because they like things I don't like?
Maybe I'm the weird one?
Naaah, can't be, right?

Speaking of Thief.
Anyone knows if the new thief game is any good?

It doesn't exist. I'm not even a big Dishonored fan but it looks like a masterpiece next to that game.

They ship them in from farming villages, bastard daughters and extra mouths that can't be fed.

>why people do non-lethal runs in all those games.

Because it's a fun challenge to do when you're familiar with the game. Doing it on your first playthrough just seems silly to me, you're essentially holding yourself back from fully exploring the game and are bound to end up savescumming (unless you're some sort of stealth prodigy).

If you guys are interested in how Dishonored was made, there's a documentary that came out recently and it's pretty good.

Never got around to playing the new Thief, but I heard it was not very good.

Many seek the Bridge for solace. Ruined men, abandoned women, and plague victims have all leapt from here.

Don't you have some train timetables of your imaginary world to fill out in excel or something.

Fun action game, poor stealth game

It's dogshit

It's a good game. Some fun mechanics in a cool setting with some cool gameplay ideas (loved the heart), with a story that's a little too basic. The morality mechanics or whatever that decide the ending aren't very good either. But overall it's fun and the world is awesome.

I honestly like it more than Dishonored 2.

The second game had a worse story and had a real "been there, done that" kind of feel.

holy shit I completely forgot that even existed
kinda sad desu

One of my favorite games.

Dishonored was a better Thief game, and that game was a failed attempt to make a proper Thief game

The morality mechanics are great, they're just poorly explained.

Kill the majority of NPCs in a level and your chaos rating goes up, kill less than 40% of NPCs in a level and your chaos rating goes down.

It's only problem is that individual moral choices only affect minor things.

It's great. Gameplay and level design are top notch. Story is just okay, but very good atmosphere and visual design in general. DLC are good too.

Dishonored is excellent. It's even better than the first one on almost every point. Problem is the story is a bit poor this time, and the biggest issue : the game runs like shit. They fixed some problems with updates, but it's still a mess.

Pretty solid game. The evil route is the most fun

The most satisfying thing is treating using powers as a reward for doing a non-violent non-detection run. You can go back through the level and destroy everyone with some real catharsis.

Lady Boyle's Party is perfect for this.

>a Dishonored thread
>without "hurr durr i killed people and the game ending is bad. how come I get punished"
>even some of them agreed that chaos route is great
Holy shit. Finally.

Only took almost 5 years

I had fun

It's not like it's a shock. Little emily draws pictures of you being a psycho killer as you go through the game.

>kill 40% of people you're great
>kill 41% you're a fucking monster

i loved the 1st one. bought the 2nd one, got a few missions in and got bored and never played it again.

is it just me? or the game?

Emily a cute.

Tonight the nobles try to conceal their indiscretions behind masks and costumes.

The Lord Regent resides here. As do those who await their turn with the executioner. Though their apartments differ

I liked it

Not perfect or anything but a good time, very nice art design

Campbell breaks all Seven Strictures each day. It's his own little joke.

Her servants never last long. And no one dares question her about their whereabouts.

There was trouble when her daughter was born. Then the doctors told her there would be no more children.

Dishonored is a very good game.
Once you get the unfucked Blink in the Daudlowdable content, you're golden.

Dishonored 2 has better levels on the whole, but somehow I still prefer the first's story. That basically puts them on even footing for me.

Dish2 is really just more of the same, but with more options, which is perfect for a sequel imo.

Hope you keep enjoying it.

A servant from Morley once stirred her so deeply, she had him killed the next day.

In her mind's eye she is fancy trimmed in velvet, fresh and young, on her way to an evening of romance.

They butchered the deep ones here, breathing in the rich stink of their enchanted flesh.

I loved it to bits. The first stealth game I played where it felt like stealth gave me more options than going for kills did, rather than less, yet the chaos system was lenient enough that I didn't feel like I needed to restart the level if I fucked up a room and had to fight my way out
the ironic fates that you inflicted on all the nonlethal target outcomes were extremely cathartic
the aesthetic was top notch, and I greatly appreciated the worldbuilding with the optional stuff like the witch and the painter

My only real complaint was that the endings were a slideshow+voiceover. It seemed like each could be better off replace by even a six second rendered cutscene with o narration that told you everything you need to know (Corvo beside Emily as a good queen, same as a bad queen, fucking off in a boat while the city burns in the distance)

Billy, get me my Knife...

His hands do violence. But there is a different dream in his heart.

>not understanding the concept of a population boom threshold in a rat epidemic

does anyone have the screencap where the player sends all three boyle sisters on the boat to rape island?

Games 1 is awesome. So is game 2. People just don't talk about game 2 because they can't pirate it.

>play this game
>think the voice acting is just too stiff and boring
>check imdb
>mfw hollywood cast

Yes me too, but he is on Pc and uses adequate tools to make these possible. It's always entertaining.
Still waiting for Daud to come back in D2.

>doing no-kill run
>have to steal the belt of that one assassin guy
>blink behind him and steal it
>'ZA WARUDO'
>walk away in front of him like a boss
>daud moves
>'Nice try, Corvo...'
>MFW

HOLY SHIT, know I know how Dio felt jesus fuck almost shit my pants

Try posess him next time. See his answer.

also try using the heart on him

>Still waiting for Daud to come back in D2.
Me too. Apparently the second book in that new official Dishonored series of books is about Daud and mentions DH2 downloadable content.

They'll probably announce the DLC at E3.

Just finished it last night actually. I thought it would end after going to the tower again,
but to my surprise the fucks betrayed me.
Then when you get to the end you see Havelock slowly getting warped with how much power he realizes he can have. Way more complex than I thought. Beautiful game desu. Sorta sad seeing the credits and the great ending track.

Jessamine please.
Last time I did this you went full:
"Why are you doing this to me am i supossed to forgives this man ?"

Speaking of ending tracks, I also really liked the one from the second game.

About time so i can have a excuse to break my ghost/non lethal ways for once (being a aboslute moralfag is suffering sometimes but i cant help).

How old did you say your sister was?

I'll tell you if you meet me for whiskey and cigars tonight.

nice
thanks

I love it. I accept that it is consolized and mechanically it could've been way better, but it was pretty much the only game of the previous generation that got Thief-style level design right.

...

Chances are very good.

Dishonored great, a little too easy. teleporting and stopping time breaks the game. The dlc and sequel are better, not to mention alot harder.

Did anyone try Iron Mode in Dishonored 2? I'm not sure I could handle it, knowing my luck I'd probably just die from accidentally falling off a building in mission 8 or something and then I'd have to do the entire game all over again.

You can play without Blink. That's the thing, Blink is overpowered because the game was made to to be playable without it.

Isn't that just for Dishonored 2? Cause in that you can refuse the Outsider's powers all together, but in the first one you still have Blink from the start.

Though I've read somewhere that you can still finish the first one even without Blink, it's only in the DLC that you have to use it one time.

Playing edgelord Daud was so goddamn satisfying, especially after being weary of my body count in the main campaign. I feel like someone at Arkane loves edgy anime tropes.

>teleports behind you
>heh heh nothing personell Billy

Kind of annoys me that redemption seems to be the canon path. Being a murderous asshole who does 1 good deed in life makes Daud a more interesting character imo.

I've beated the 2nd without blink, and most of the first. There's a few jumps that seem to be borderline impossible without it. Can we talk about how damn pretty this game is?

It's hard for me to go full edgelord but when i force myself to, I enjoy it.
I liked the difference between Daud Dream's in high chaos and how he can barely sleep without having nightmares or how thomas diary point the fact that Daud is truly disturbed by billy betrayal even after being an assasins for so long, truly a intersting character.

It's very pretty

I loved this game. The world makes me so nostalgic for times and places I've never seen. I wish I could visit Victorian England.

Sure. I loved the timepiece mission and the contrast between the old mansion and the decrepit one.

The fact that the mansion changed in the present if you put the target to sleep was great.

Time to go back in 2012 people:

Truly and hyping trailer.

Favorite game of the past few years still. Going to try a Thief/no blink playthrough after I finish the DLCs.

Found these albums with HQ screenshots from both games, if anyone wants a wallpaper or something.
