I don't know what's going on with reviewers and Sony fans but they for some reason have generally lower standards than Nintendo fans and also PC fats.

Sony children always told me how unlucky I am for only having a GameCube, only knowing Tales of Symphonia; Baten Kaitos, Skies of Arcadia and so on when there so much better JRPGs on PS2 like Persona, FInal Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts.

Then I downloaded PCSX2 one day, played all those games, and they were all fucking trash. All of them. Even Shadow of the Colossus (I know, not a JRPG). FUCKING 1/10 trash. Absolutely terrible in almost every single way. Yes, even DQ with its random ancounters, shit characters, shit story, generic music and Dragon Ball characters, and this terrible combat and saving that takes longer than the whole session you play.

I can't. I'm disgusted wth how bitterly and cynically Four was treated.

I can't really defend Taro in general though. He's like the Urobutcher of vidya.

The final boss fight was fun. I enjoyed all 10 hours of it. The rest of the game was and ran like garbage, though.

Zero is an extremely refreshing and entertaining protag. I like her in-your-face attitude.

and the whole thing where each intoner sings/screams a single note which distorts and splits and stutters into their boss theme is pure sex which reinforces the whole concept of songs that can rewrite reality that the whole D+N setting is built upon

It honestly wasn't as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be. It's almost like people who think it's one of the worst games ever, hasn't played very many games and only started playing games with the 360/PS3. Generally, if a game is fucking awful, I'll drop it easily. I played Drakengard 3 and didn't even really think to drop it once for being awful. I did with Drakengard 1 though but after a few years, I went back and trudged through it.

Taro is not a gameplay designer outside of being a pretty good idea guy. If you play DoD, it's for the narrative/characters, not even fans are going to defend the gameplay.

This game had some really cool ideas and visuals but when the game part starts it's such terrible shite.

That end of route A boss was some serious horseshit. Worse even than the final song

Its gameplay left it mediocre or barely subpar.

There's fun to be had but a lot of it can feel like a slog.

But then the shit framerate makes that all much worse.

It feels like they put their Junior developers on it, or gave some bizarre technical restriction. There's no reason for a game so barebones looking to run so poorly.

Drakengard is the weird, experimental series. Nier solidifies lessons the devs learned in making Drakengard games and rolls them into a complete package that's more appealing to the mass market.

NieR remake by platinum would be pretty cool but it would really gain it many more fans. As Automata showed us, most people would be attracted by the Platinum label hate action rpg games that don't have "Souls" in their title.

There's a lot of really good banter in Nier, but the tone is usually a lot more serious. The lighthearted funny parts just make the serious stuff hit harder when everything starts going wrong.
