I don't have 4k tv, I actually play my XO on 19 inch 1366x768 PC monitor and I would use PS4 with it too (plus I'd like to buy PSVR one day for it too)
Would it be really worth it to buy better version for me?
Daniel Cook
Buy a proper PC if you haven't got one already. Cheaper, more versatile, upgradeable system.
If you still got too much money to burn, get PS4 Pro. No, the 4K TV is not a requirement, the console does NOT output REAL 4K in any game at the moment, and you actually benefit more on a lower res screen more, as you can play on the "high performance" mode, which is practically 1080p @ 60fps in most games, with AA effect resulted by minor downsampling.
Regular PS quadros already suffer to keep up even steady 30fps at 900p nowadays
Luke Reed
PSVR would benefit from the Pro, and if you're ever looking to upgrade your monitor to even 1080p you'll get the visual benefits, as well as some games running at 60fps on the Pro (if I'm not mistaken). The Slim is by far the most (and only) aesthetically pleasing version of the console, so it's up to you and how you value your money really.
Ethan Morris
Buy the slim. Pro is a meme
Carson Bailey
I am one of those who got a Pro for my first playstation and I am honestly quite disappointed that I didn't buy the Slim. The Pro is honestly not worth it if you're looking to not play in 4K, I bought it expecting increase in performance but even boost mode is a very mediocre improvement which you will barely notice. The problem is that despite increase the GPU by quite a lot over the base ps4, the CPU only increased a little which allows a significant increase in resolution but not in framerate. The only game that somewhat benefits from the pro is Nioh and not by a lot. With the price difference you can get like 2 more games, don't fall for it.
Juan Wood
>Buy a proper PC Don't fall for this meme t. former le pc master race
Blake Brooks
>my first playstation Meant my first playstation 4, I'm usually a console fag.
Jonathan Bennett
>Buy a proper PC I don't want that, my laptop is good enough for everything I need from PC (internet, work stuff, shitposting on Sup Forums, it can run all games that are only availible on PC). I want PS4 because it has games that actually interest me and it will have even more of them as time will go on. I can honestly say that there is currently only one upcoming PC only game that I want to play and I can't run it either on my current laptop or PS4, so gaming PC is definitely no no.
Thanks, PS4 Slim it is then, anons.
Nathaniel Perez
Don't buy a PS4 if you have an Xbox. It'll just end up collecting dust. That's what happened to mine. There's 2 exclusives a year worth playing, wait a few years and buy one when it's really cheap.
Chase Walker
Wait for the PS5
Ryan Martin
Yeah no, at much you must have played on a shit laptop and now you think you were master race
Bentley Smith
...
Blake Wood
>wait 2+ years Why?
Matthew Torres
if you are buying PSVR get a pro, there the framerate difference is very noticeable
Matthew Sanders
If you want to get PSVR eventually then I would recommend the Pro unless the Slim version is at a steep discount.
And I'd also invest in an actual TV. 1080p screens are getting dirt cheap these days.
Brayden Howard
Yea I second this post in it's entirety
Samuel Morgan
slim or scorpio
Elijah Wilson
PS3 and 360 were top of the line hardware at the time the PC mainstream market wasn't as gaming oriented as it is today nor were consumer variants of proprietary console tech close to matching the performance and price ratio of the PS3 and 360 for several years.
The PS3 and 360 were mocked for slowing down the pace of PC gaming like in Skyrim or New Vegas. But the PS4 and X1, which have toaster processors, that had to be upgraded mid generation with the Pro and Scorpio, are going to stick around longer than their predecessors.
Is that the gist of what you're trying to say, that the PS5 is down the line? The PS4 version of Tekken 7 isn't even 1080p and the Xbox One runs it at 720p native. These consoles are a fucking tremendous joke. If you think the PS5 and next Xbox aren't coming up soon you're a dumbass latching on to current gen's frankly embarrassment outdated under specced processors.
Charles Murphy
No, this is the best advice. I have consoles for exclusives, but use PC for everything else.
Henry Gray
>slowing down the pace of PC gaming
Well, it is not like anybody is stopping devs from ditching console versions of their games and just make top of the line PC game that would blow consoles the fuck out.
Joshua Kelly
Sony defense force at full speed once again.
Lincoln Ross
oops, meant also for
Ayden Martin
>the console does NOT output REAL 4K in any game at the moment Why lie? All the sports games are native 4k 60fps and there are several other games at native 4k. It is a game by game basis sure but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. Even the "fake" 4k games look almost the same as 4k. Count the pixels
Nathan Bailey
>Even the "fake" 4k games look almost the same as 4k This is bullshit. As someone who owns a 4k TV, a PC, and a PS4 Pro, Ryse at native 4k looks noticeably sharper than Horizon Zero Dawn at high resolution mode or whatever.
Carson Kelly
Well of course it looks sharper but the difference isn't enourmous.
Charles Johnson
Well, is pretty accurate. I not a fanboy of any particular platform, but I've been favoring PC for the last few years, but that shit even annoys me.
Jonathan Butler
Not him, but it can't even do 1080p 30fps in prey. If you think it's anywhere near 4k you're delusional (although 4k pcs cost thousands)
Tyler Torres
>Why lie? because it's not lie in most cases.
upscaled 1200p with TAA, or INTERLACED 4K =/= real 4K. And jumpy 30fps at that.
>count the pixels You're the kind of people who believe that 1080i equals 1080p.
Luis Evans
>Even the "fake" 4k games look almost the same as 4k. lmao
Benjamin Young
Except for the fact that people who splurge on the machine itself compensate by either pirating the games or buying them at a steep discount, meaning you will have very little sales.
The secret is making something that can run well on the cheapest laptops imaginable and make it F2P; it works for MOBAs.
Brandon Rogers
So basically PC gamers hold back themselves?
Thomas Green
>very little sales. [citation needed] some of the best selling PC games are still making money to their devs decades later.
Parker Cruz
I'mma bout to BLOW THESE PC KEKS OUT OF THE WATER
Most people already have a nice TV. Won't need to buy a new one. All you need is your SWEET PS4. You can get one USED for less than $150.
Got a 4K HDR TV already? Get dat FUCKING AMAZING PS4 PRO. Most games play at 60 FPS unlike PC games which struggle to play games at 60 FPS in GLORIOUS 4k without spending $1000 on a graphics card.
Getting an equivalent PC setup will require to buy a new monitor which decent ones cost $500 and build a new PC if your CPU is ancient. Expect to spend TWO FUCKING THOUSAND DOLLARS on an equivalent PC setup when you can use your already nice TV with a sub-$200 PS4.
PS4 gets ALL THE GAMES first and has THE BEST exclusives. PC gets what? Indie games? Shit ports that required $1k graphics cards to run? FUCKING LOL
Henry Reyes
PS4 Pro does not do 4K, it's the same bullshit how they're pretending PSVR does 120 Hz when it's really just 30 Hz or something. Ever seen one of those "480 Hz" TVs with TruMotion™? Yeah, it's taking 24 frames and turning it into 480 and it looks fucking horrible and jittery.
Levi Wood
>hey guys should I buy a Hotdog with bacon or without bacon?
>buy a burger, it's definitely the better choice!
Michael Jones
>some of the best selling PC games are still making money to their devs decades later. Because after a decade even some favela monkey running Vista will have the means to play it.
I'm talking about massive flashy tech-pushing games that need top-tier equipment to not run like fried dog shit and consoles just plain couldn't handle. People who built $1,200 rigs tend not to buy $60 games.
Xavier Evans
Prey is badly optimized. Horizon is a good example of the checkerboarding working really really well. >in most cases Prove to me that it is upscaled 1200p "in most cases". Show me the list of games with pro support and their resolutions please. Regardless Horizon looks really close to native 4k. Why focus on shittily optimized games when there are great examples of games doing it properly? Count the pixels on
Jackson Jenkins
>making a food analogy I don't even know where to start.
The sad fact is, some people seriously don't even KNOW that PC is a gaming platform. One gigantic, overpowered one at that. Anyone claiming that it'd be more expensive, more time consuming or more difficult that console gaming has literally not touched a console nor PC game since 2003
Jacob Hernandez
kek
Caleb Reed
I'm not partaking in the shitposting, but >Count the pixels is not exactly how it works, user
Asher Martin
>I'm talking about massive flashy tech-pushing games that need top-tier equipment to not run like fried dog shit and consoles just plain couldn't handle Such as?
>People who built $1,200 rigs tend not to buy $60 games. yeah, because you can get them day 1 for half the price.
Brandon Garcia
They thought GTA V was PS4 exclusive?
Camden James
>I don't even know where to start.
Because this time it was actually a good analogy.
Sebastian Young
Nope, just the thought of someone thinking that was a fine and relevant comparison is enough to boggle my mind so much, I'm speechless.
Food is a necessity, and what you crave depends on your mood and tastes. Gaming machines are not necessities, and there are clearly, objectively superior choices when it comes to game library size, functionalities, and overall cost of the system and games. In all these factors, PC is the undeniable winner, which kids these days seem to have "forgotten", no matter that 99% of all games EVER released are available on it, in similar or better form, with features not even possible on consoles.
Jason Moore
>Food is a necessity,
And that has nothing to do with the question. The question is A or B. The necessity of it has no significance to that question. Other factors do, but the point was to illustrate that a person is trying to pick between two choices, and some faggot shows up preaching of a third option that the person who asked the question clearly had no interest in, or they would have included it too.
Camden Gomez
It's a fine analogy because it's not a food analogy, it's a choice analogy. Quit being a vehement retard
Michael Hughes
Not even a consolefag, but here's a thought: When somebody is specifically asking whether he should get the Pro or Slim of a specific console, don't come into the thread with 'Buy a proper PC'. They get it, you're an elitist. But THE GUY IS NOT ASKING FOR THAT.
And don't try to whine and shit up the thread afterwards. You're being about as obnoxious as the people posting NEVER EVER in a Bloodborne thread, but what's even worse than them is you're out of place.
Brayden Young
>pretentious elitist faggotry >comparing the need to eat to fucking gaming platforms Consoles these days are powerful enough to enjoy playing most games on them regardless of platform. PC is not "the undeniable winner". No one has "forgotten" PCs can perform better than consoles and have a similar library.
For most people, they just prefer a dedicated gaming console for the simplicity. You buy one, plug it in, and bam, you're playing all modern games. For others, they own one because their friends play on them.
You're a fucking tool.
Mason Cook
I got myself a Slim, PS4 in general is just a fucking meme anyway
2017 is the best year to get a PC
Thomas Wood
Pro owner here. The Pro is not worth it. Save the $100 and buy games or PS+ with it.
Ian Kelly
I just bought a slim (Uncharted bundle) waiting for it to arrive this week along with my Switch
Jason Wilson
>He doesn't know the PS4's increased popularity makes it hard to find a sub 200$ used PS4
>He actually believes a System running a GPU architecture equivalent to a 200$ GPU displays True 4K on high end games
>He actually doesn't know what developer demographic Sony panders to and what most PS+ games are these days
>He doesn't know most people roll with .ini edits and mods to compensate for terrible ports
IMHO user, the Slim has the best cooling if you're on a budget and don't care about true 1080. If you care deeply about true 1080p60fps, Pro is the way to go; especially with it's capabilities to upscale to 4K.
Luis Anderson
Why do PC fags always feel the need to shit up threads?
Is it because they're pissed off at Windows 10?
Zachary Hughes
>The question is A or B. Unless people are blissfully unaware of the existence of options C, D ... all the way to Ă–, which is frighteningly common nowadays.
In OP's case, he already has a 8th gen console, and thinks of buying ANOTHER one.... because?
Food ends up in the same result: your basic needs are fulfilled, yet you are left with a different taste in your mouth.
>don't do this, because it might make someone mad! I wish the world would work that way at times, but it doesn't, and I'm not stopping my attempts to educate ignorant people.
>PC fags I'm a multi-form idort, actually. And my PS4 has been collecting dust most of the time in the past couple years. Even my just purchased WiiU has already seen more use, and obviously I'm on a PC majority of my time.
Jason Wilson
...So this is the power of ignorant Sonytools posting circa 2014. Funny how looking back it seemed like it was going to be a pretty good game. 3 years later after multiple Shark Cards being sold and Single-Player DLC getting cancelled GTA V is now nothing more but a Multiplat Cash-Grab that Rockstar somehow keeps milking.
Maybe they're salty about Sonytools shitting in Vanquish and Bayonetta PC threads while derailing generals for PS4 exclusives to gloat about PCBros?
