Can someone explain why we just decided to roll over and not let this game be developed?
For fucks sake at least release the story line to it.

>pretending Half-Life has a story
Real cute.
They work on whatever they want and its been started a couple of times but its now to the point that if someone at valve wants to give it another go they'll most likely be alone in it.
I'm at the point where i genuinely think it will never come out unless a higher-up at the company gives them a good shove in that direction.
Get a fucking load of this guy
There was plenty to it, and still a lot more potential to be had.
>I'm at the point where i genuinely think it will never come out unless a higher-up at the company gives them a good shove in that direction.
Or pressure from the outside. Anyone ever consider a boycott of steam until they finally release this?
>not let this game be developed
You want to force someone to make a video game now? The fuck do you think this is? It kinda sucks that we're not going to get it, but get over yourself.
Why not? You actually that interested in another fucking left 4 dead?
No, I wasn't interested in any of the Left 4 Dead games. What the fuck does that have to do with Half Life?

Because it's what valve spends its time making instead of h3.
And? It's obviously what they want to make. If they wanted to make HL3 then we'd be playing it right now.
Valve shat out the immensely popular L4D2 quite soon after L4D people complained and tried to boycott it because of the short development time.
Valve then decide to take their time making their new games people complain.
So Valve haters what is the optimum development time that you recommend meets your requirements?
Hence the reason we need to make them want to make it. Jesus christ how much of this do you need explained?
A) It's been ten fucking years now..
B)The game is completely stalled, if it still takes them two years from now to actually produce something good than that's fine. Just get the game released.
>we need
What is this "we" shit? Get over yourself. I want SRW Original Generations, OG Gaiden and OGs 2 in English but it's not gonna happen. You don't just get things handed to you because you want them.
Because there was no demand for it. And why are you acting like you have anything else better to do?
>Because there was no demand for it.
And you think that changes things? Half Life 2 was fucking popular and there's always been people vocal for it. Unless you are physically at Valve and are secretly Gabe Newell, then there's not really a damn thing you can do to get HL3 made.
see
There's plenty can be done.
Because that's never been tried before ever.
...
I'd prefer TF3 honestly. It's been long enough that I don't really care about the HL story any more but last year Overwatch reminded me how much I still love TF2.
Plus I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen, given the only games they make now are online-only micro-transaction-filled loot fests and hero shooters are hot right now.
ITT: kid who just finished hl2:ep2 and found out it came out 10 years ago vs. jaded cynic who has given up all hope and optimism after decade-long wait
Because everyone just gives up on it.
Even if they ever release HL3 it'll be the biggest disappointment in all of gaming history. It's been hyped for so long that expectations will be through the roof. Face it, there is nothing they can do to make it different from any other first person games.
>Valve shat out the immensely popular L4D2 quite soon after L4D people complained and tried to boycott it because of the short development time.
They boycotted because valve promised to support l4d but dropped it after one incredibly short dlc in favor of l4d2 (which could have easily been an expansion) it had nothing to do with the fast development time.
We've just never had such a charismatic leader before. Quickly, Che Guevara, to the forums.
Both redditors
I mean what are you gonna do. People have pissed and moaned about it not being made and nothing has been done. What else do you want one? Someone to firebomb their offices?
>valve promised to support l4d
This is a lie.
They ignored it in favor of other, more profitable projects, and now they can't even pump out a comic or anything to wrap up the story because the Half-Life writers all quit Valve already.
the story of half life games iirc are only made after the actual gameplay segments are finished
This. Basically anything they do will piss someone off. It's either not do anything and piss people off because there's not an ending, or make a half-assed ending with none of the original writers and piss people off because it's half-assed and different.
Bombing is a little extreme for software(and i suppose technically hardware) developers. Though a hacking into them would be killer. Just plug in tons of files saying that fans want a new half-life game before they fucking hit 70 years of age.
Or if thats a touch too edgy, just mail them a fuckton of crowbars
>at least release the story line
If they even wrote the end of the story, it probably consisted of the G-Man showing up to announce that the game is over, as he does at the end of most Half-Life games.
Maybe after that we can get Firefly back on Fox.
Valve didn't made a good game in decades. All talented people gone? all writers gone. HL3 is a meme like Duke. Why people still want it. It better not have one that have shit like DNF.
>"we" decided
>"we did not let" it be developed
yeah i remember when Sup Forums told gabe newell to cease development
Clearly HL2 wasn't that popular because they have no plans to make a HL3. Half-Life was only successful by the standards of the 90s PC gaming niche, any one title from GoW or CoD or Mass Effect fucking dwarfs all of the Half-Lifes and their expansions and episodes put together. Face it, the industry doesn't give a fucking shit about Half-Life, only a handful of "hardcore gaming" autists do.
They got hacked before for HL2. Someone hacked in and got their beta files. They honey potted him with a job offer
With Josh as he is nowdays behind the helm? Fuck no
I'm more annoyed that Valve keeps beating around the bush and wont give us closure about the status of it. It would be nice for them to say "yes, it is being made, but we're having a difficult time" or "no, it's cancelled".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Half-Life 3 was never announced in any form, and there's no solid evidence that it was ever in development.
Half-Life 2: Episode Three, on the other hand, was announced. In fact, the outdated Orange Box web site* still refers to the Episodes as a "trilogy" (orange.half-life2.com
Can't be any more disappointing than HL2.

Valve doesn't have higher ups. They only hire managers that can manage themselves.
>Face it, there is nothing they can do to make it different from any other first person games.
There is: make it not shit.
Imagine a Half-Life 3 carrying on the guard of real shooters showing the health-regenerating, weapon limiting, combat zoning crap that's permeated the genre for over a decade how it's done.
>When HL 2 won Steam's "Needs a Sequel" award
I agree with this guy that the base game was a huge downgrade, but I feel like Episodes 1 and 2 were good successors to HL. The level design got a lot better, less areas where a room goes into lockdown until you clear it.
Would there be any demand for another Half-Life game if Valve hadn't ended Half-Life 2: Episode Two on a cliffhanger? I mean, let's say they had released Episode Three and it had a good ending, or maybe instead they had just wrapped everything up at the end of Episode Two, having known there would never be an Episode Three. With no annoying cliffhanger, would anyone still give a shit?
To be honest, I wouldn't.
don't you get it, it doesn't matter if there's demand or not. it doesn't matter if you clamor and protest and write kotaku articles and make shitty mods entitled hl3 and spam gaben's inbox and organize a trip to valve hq and beg and plead while wearing your plushie headcrab hat
these things, they take time
Funny thing is that you would be the first person to complain about how underwhelming the game would be if they just pushed something out the door for the sake of finishing the story and had no actual technical breakthroughs
