Did you like the designs of the demons in D44M?
Did you like the designs of the demons in D44M?
No but I did like how the Hell Knights were Doom 3ish except they were a lot smaller.
Not really, kind of boring.
Quite a lot
...
Kind of boring, I wish there were a bit more body horror.
But atleast the doom guy is on point
how was he on point
...
They made him one angry motherfucker without having him speaking.
Along with Doomguy's design, no
doomguy's design was fine
just because it wasn't exactly the old design with the bared midriff and everything don't make it bad
was part of the art design
They were decent. Those rock beast bosses at the end were pretty end
THICC
i never took doomguy for a angry rip and tear kind of guy, just for a marine trying to not get his ass raped by demons, but hey, whatever floats the dev's boat
Only ones I liked were knights, barons and lost souls. I'm always disappointed with imps (3 and 4), they should try to go for the look they had in the original cover art.
he never seemed all that angry in doom 1-3/quake 3
i never understood why quake had a fetish for calling everyone a trader
They look too "cool" imo. Not weird or disgusting and always perfectly symmetrical like they were meant to be that way, not like the ones from DOOM3 which were horrible monstrosities. They also have that weird shiny or plasticy look to them which makes them look too smooth.
do you not know what a tradesman is
someone who deals in death is called a mercenary/assassin, not a trader
I liked the barons and hellknights, everything else didn't really seem all that doom looking, I think I preferred the e3 trailer imps with no eyes more than those bug looking fuckers. Not saying they looked bad just not really what I was hoping for.
>i never took doomguy for a angry rip and tear kind of guy,
Then wowee good for you, because the devs had the foresight to leave the backstory vague enough that you can choose whether or not it's the same doomguy from 1-2-64.
They're taking a popular fan interpretation that existed because Doomguy was a blank slate protag and making it into something concrete and entertaining.
2016 doomguy is one of the most satisfying protagonists I've seen in a game without going for the voiced protagonist angle.
I like it that they went with the comic doomguy. I mean you need to get a bit angry to fight the hordes from hell.
Most of them were good or passable, but I don't like all the cyclops designs. I don't know why they went with so many. Mancubus was the worst offender.
I like some, Imps kept most of the charm points of their classic Doom counterparts while also adding some slight redesigned elements.
I don't like many of the more radical redesigns though, like Cacos or the Cyberdemon, they're fine, but they don't have that classic Doom look I personally love.
Really like Doomguy's new fancy dress too.
Better than Doom 3s designs but otherwise I don't think much of them much positively or negatively.
doom 3's designs were better apart from the caco
the imp/hell knight/zombie variants in hell come to mind
>mercenary/assassin
That's a trade.
yeah, except the imp
Don't like how they try to male everything look "cool". Also everything looked like it was made from rubber/silicone.
I don't mind the praetor suit by itself but I think it kind of takes away from Doomguy. I'd rather have Doomguy punching and ripping apart demons with nothing but knuckledusters and his bare hands than giant metal arms
They were OK. Much improved from the first screenshots, as in they got rid of the massively desaturated pissfilter Cacodemons and Barons and actually made them a bit more classic-looking. Imp looks like shit and the Summoner looks uninspired as fuck. Cyberdemon is unforgivable.
Meanwhile, I love the new Pinky, and my favorite DOOM enemy, Spider Mastermind, was fucking fantastic in every aspect.
Doom 3 mancubus was better imo but damn are you spot fucking on about the doom 3 caco, fucking ugly to look at. I feel like those dumb fucking spiders would have been way cooler if they did more than just run around on the floor and be fags, it's an upside down head with unfolding jaws and spider legs for fuck sake.
>Spider Mastermind, was fucking fantastic in every aspect.
Agreed.
Pretty much the one enemy in the entire game that has been nailed perfectly in every aspect.
Really like how parts of it also reference Olivia's suit design as to demonstrate how she was used to summon it, really fun battle too.
>tfw the original design was way better
they based his personality on an old meme just like most of d44m was.
i disagree
i can't remember what any of doom 3's monsters looked like, they were all vague black darkish shapes
While I like how Pinkys were more similar to the original I still liked the classic bulky muscular design more than their spiky armored design in Doom 4.
"i can't remember what they look like" is not a very good argument as to why its bad
i can remember all the doom 3 monsters just fine and think they were more memorable even the stupid two headed crawling ones i hated and babies
Hell Knight, Baron and Summoner were the only good designs, and even then, Summoner was the best of the lot. Most of them were too cartoony and didn't look monstrous or intimidating. The Imp looked like a cast off 343i Halo design.
NuDoom, overall, seems more like someone's idea of Doom as seen through decades of pop culture memes than an actual successor. I'm glad they had fun with it, but it's design department played it way too safe and Doom's visuals are way too iconic and important and have such safe, throwaway designs.
looks too much like doom 3
I love that smooth cranium/skeletal carapace shit, looks cool
I don't care for the Mancubus or Cyberdemon. Everything else is fine.
They also reused the Hell Knight design from 3.
Overall I felt DOOM 2016's designs were good. A few like the Cacodemon, Revenant, Pinky, Lost Soul, and Spider Mastermind were just about perfect.
The rest ranged from great to alright, except the Hell Guards which didn't really feel right to me. I think it was the lack of a face/head. Those aside the only one I would've liked to see some changes to was the Cyberdemon. I grew to accept the moose horns and lack of hooves but at the very least the cybernetic parts of its one leg should've been more visible.
>There are people who don't love the demon designs in DOOM 4.
I liked how they went with more of a Masters of the Universe vibe with them. Most don't look like generic grey shit.
Not that I particularly hated Doom 3's designs: they fit perfectly with the world they were put in, and having d44m's more colorful menagerie in a bleak, dark game would not fit. I guess I'm just tired of demons being all red and black and gray and what have you
Yeah cause they're mostly bland as fuck
>I guess I'm just tired of demons being all red and black and gray and what have you
D44M's addition of yellow really mixed things up.
>people were disappointed that the piss filter got removed
WHY
damn its like i'm really playing on q2dm1
A trader is not a tradesman.
I feel like some of the designs were taken from gullimore del toro and H.R giger. Not complaing, I actually wish they went with it even more.
...
We're playing this game now huh.
...
Your mother is bland as fuck. :^)
>he unironically likes rejected 343i alien designs
Jesus what a shit design
it actually does in comparison to older games
they even cut down on the piss yellow because of fan criticism
doom 4's world and enemy design is great honestly
Not even that guy but
>unironically liking this bland garbage more
>Thank goodness for this strawman otherwise I'd have to acknowledge aesthetic preferences and my shit taste.
FTFY
Where did he mention liking Doom 3 designs?
Only liked the design for revenants, everything else looked more like an alien than a proper demon. New id software has no idea what they are doing.
Just been a recurring theme in these threads
it's not like the classic doom designs are much better, honestly. The imps are just brown men with no noses and spikes on their shoulders
he never said he liked doom 3 though and the designs in doom 3 were better if you don't post shitty compressed screenshots on low settings
Revenant and Lost Soul were the only good designs
>Bland zombie with no face
wow so scary and body horror so much better
it's uninspired garbage
"they're bad because they look like aliens instead of a generic horror movie" is not a good criticism, they're more gigeresque and the body horror on the possessed is 10/10 compared to that shit
>I can't handle differing opinions on a laotian basket weaving forum so I'll continue posting fetish art to seem above it all
but what if doom was a grill
...
uninspired garbage that ended up being the only good parts of D44M's monsters
not sure why you're such a little bitch about it there's plenty of things D44M did better but monster design and multiplayer definitely weren't one of those things
I liked how they actually had a bit of personality.
The imps are right cheeky cunts and the pinkies are adorable.
And the barons were good
Doomguy's not irrationally angry though, he's angry when demons kill people and when people let demons fuck shit up.
VEGA showed that he's still the same bunny loving, civilian protecting sweetheart as ever.
I'll take spiky brown humanoids with big goofy gaping mouths over pointy ayy lmaos
There is absolutely no way anybody can possible like the bland designs, you'll get shitposters pretending otherwise but hell no.
she's called crash
play quake 3
>no one can possibly disagree with me
stop being self-important
I agree that many of them look like wet crustaceans, but acknowledge that it is indeed possible for people to have different tastes and opinions than you
Doomguy in doom 1,2 and 64 did have a personality though.
He was violently righteous, exiled to mars for assaulting his superior, left himself as the last man on earth and was considered mad when he warned everyone that the demons would come back.
Doom 4 isn't that ambiguous. He's the OG doomguy with a new suit of armour.
The historicity of the rest of the lore is ambiguous because most demon that encounter doomguy get killed, so a lot of the stories of him 'being blessed by the Seraphim' are basically superstitions and rumours; a way for them to give some reason to his success.
The E3 imps just looked like twink hellknights. I'm glad they changed them.
yes the hell knight and pinkes are really good looking
the baron and cacodemon are perfect
Before people keep on about how bad the designs were in 3 maybe you should refresh yourselves because it seems people are not quite being fair.
...
the hellknight looks fine
Please, the only people that actually would like them are fags that have only played CoD, Battelfield and Halo or similar recent games.
If you have any experience with fps games over the years the designs are just very boring, safe shit, not worthy of Doom.
whatever
Maledict was cool and I'm sad it won't become part of the normal boss lineup.
The only designs I liked were the Hellknight and bruiser. The vagary was alright but only appeared 3 times.
The rest weren't metal enough. ROE's designs were just different hellknights.
Their concept art was weird as fuck.
You could see that Adrian Carmack had zero influence on Doom 3 as he was basically blackmailed into allowing the game to be made then kicked out of the company. That's probably why Trent fell out with id.
I liked most of them besides the imp and hell knight they were all pretty faithful to the original designs.
>that wang
The imps were a travesty. They should have just improved on the spider-eyed design they had in 3, which was perfect. The glowing-eyed, exoskeleton version bouncing all over the place like monkeys was shit.
>bouncing all over the place like monkeys
but that made them interesting to fight
lots of the concept art had wangs originally.
Someone must have told Kenneth Scott to stop putting his fetish into everything.
Not really no, but the gameplay and maps were fantastic.
most redesigns were great, Cyberdemon sucked though
>Doom 3 could have been filled with demons with huge, floppy dongs chasing after you
That was fun to type.
Yeah, man, those comically looking demons the colour of fucking rainbow and shit are so much better! Fuck off, nostalgia cuck.
OK, they still look like shit though. Worst redesign of them all.
I did love reading the data logs about the Cyberdemon, though. That was Space Pirate-tier stupidity on the UAC's part.
Who thought that this cartoony looking thing was a good idea?
The big green eye, that silly mouth, I think I know what they were going with the mouth but they absolutely failed at it, it looks more at home as in Starcraft than Doom.
That was a problem with a lot of the designs, they were very cartoony.
>Hey we found the skull of this long dead demon species, what should we do?
>I know! Let's resurrect it, give it cybernetic implants and an Argent Accumulator
The best data logs are UAC experimenting with the demons. Specters and Revenants are the best.
Personally I thought they didn't look cartoony enough, like the classic designs were pretty cartoony but that's what made them memorable
